Has anyone used a dremel on a small item. I know folks have drilled or dremeled) holes into maj-jong tiles or dice, but I haven't seen specifically how.

I'd like to dremel holes into acorns to turn them into beads. I'm guessing I need to clamp them down somehow so that I can drill a hole into them without losing a finger, but I'm not sure how to approach this.

My crafting up to this point has been limited to pretty tame stuff: knitting, crocheting, beading, painting, etc. This step towards power tools use scares me. Using the power saw in middle school gave me nightmares.

Hairballs!

hey, this may be lazy of me, but i'm looking for a post by someone who made six skirts from t-shirts and pillowcases. i tried googling and searching through the memories, but had no luck. they were behind a cut--the text was "six skirts", and the photos were taken in someone's yard, standing on grass. i think it was posted sometime this summer, although i'm not sure.

if you posted this, or have it bookmarked or something, could please you link me?

Quick question:

I'm thinking to knit myself a belt out of hemp. So, has anyone ever knit with hemp cord before? Would I have to do anything like soak it beforehand or anything? Or is it just too uncooperative to work with anyway?

crossposted all over the damn place.

The memories and googling aren't getting me anywhere, or maybe I'm just searching wrong...

I've got all of my friends saving me the twist-off caps off of their beverages of choice. I want to make a belt out of them, by somehow attaching them to an existing leather (or whatever) belt. Question is, how do I get them attached? One of the guys suggested just trying to hammer the cap far enough into the leather so that it would stay, but that doesn't seem particularly permanent to me. I'm thinking more along the lines of a grommett or something, but getting that through the bottle cap and the leather would be difficult, at best.

Is there some easier way to do this that I'm just missing completely? :)

So it's my cousin's sixteenth birthday today and I decided to give her something a little more personal along with the real gift. She told me she really enjoyed Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, so I edited a picture a tad and matted and framed it.

Here you go. :) )

So, you know those random mass mailings from religious organisations you sometimes get that have like, cross necklaces and stuff in them? I ended up with a free rosary and decided to make some changes.

In the end, it looked like this. )

I am new to felting, but I was wondering: is it okay to cut felted wool? Like, if I knit a rectangle, felt it, and then can I cut it into different shapes?

Also, are there different fibers that I can felt with? Acrylic? Cotton? Alpaca?

Thanks so much!

Alright, I've checked the memories and clicked every link in all the posts but I'm still confused.

I bought some 100% wool sweaters at salvation army, pulled them apart, and loosely crocheted them into a bag. Now I want to felt it. I don't have a washing machine, so I put it on the stove with some laundry soap and stirred it for a long time in my best imitation of a washing machine, but nothing happened and now my apartment smells weird. If need be, I can just wait til laundry day and felt at the laundromat, but I'm impatient and want to finish my project. Can someone help me out?

Thanks a lot, and I have many projects to post pictures of later this evening.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to start a travelling journal. Please see my LJ for more info :)

I recently bought 4 collage picture frames (you know, those large frames that hold several small pictures) from a catalog. Anyway, I bought four of them, and each frame holds 24 pictures. I finally recieved the frames, and realized why they were so surprisingly cheap. The frames are gorgeous, however, they're incredibly small (about 2 1/2 feet long, and 1 foot wide) and the picture slots are so small that it's almost impossible to find pictures to fit (some of the picture slots are 1 in. by 1 in.!).

Anyway, my question is this : Is there a program I could download (hopefully free) that I could use to edit these pictures to make them the appropriate sizes (to fit in the really small picture slots?!)? If not, anyone have any suggestions how to fit fairly close pictures of two people into a 1x1 inch slot?!

Thanks Guys!

Here's some photos of my most recent crafty project, modified from an idea in the most recent issue of Bust. I spent two or three hours yesterday evening dipping crochet thread in papier mache and then wrapping it around and around balloons inflated to three or four inches in diameter. Then, I hung the balloon blobs to dry. This morning, I got to pop them and listen to the balloons slowly peel away from the skeleton around them. It sounded like puffed rice crackling; weird. Then, I took these egg-shaped globes and put them around every-other light in a string of $2 orange Halloween lights. Fancy! )

Hello craftgirls!
This is my first post, but I've been inspired by this group for quite some time! I'm currently taking a mosaics class, so I've been doing a lot of that, but I also love making jewelry, scrapbooking, and lots of crafts! I've been super productive this summer, so I'll be showing a lot of it off as I am able to take pictures of it!
Tonight I'm sharing the gifts I made for my sister's 18th birthday, all inspired by the celtic knot beads...

enjoy )

Hi,

WARNING!!! these pictures behind the cut are HUGE so that whoever can read chinese can see what the characters actually are. I have three really big pictures--the first two show what everything is and how you read the grids, and then the third one is a small santa mascot. I just don't have the time to sit down and try to "crack the code" of these grids, which I'd have to do since I can't read chinese. I'd really appreciate any help on these since these books have A LOT of really cute mascots.

i hate to do this, but i have a question for all you craft-extraordinaires out there.
my dad's birthday is coming up soon, and he's the chair of his department at njit this year.
we're always making jokes and such about him being the ACTING CHAIR.
so i want to make him a mousepad with a cute stencil of like,
a chair on a stage with lights and a curtain and stuff.

has anyone here ever stenciled onto a mousepad before?
can i use regular fabric paint? will the like, heat of the mouse melt
the paint off and cause the paint to corrode the inner workings of the mouse?
should i just send it in to some company that'll put the picture on a mousepad for me?
help!

I have a few celebrity picture marbles left over from a former bracelet that didn't work out so well. I've decided to string individual marbles on ribbon, but can't decide how to close the bracelets. I don't have the supplies to affix actual clasps, but I thought I could either tie them or do velcro. What do you think?

Picture of what I have so far )

I've just started one of those "fraggle rock" hats described on craftster, and I am suuuper psyched;) Has anyone else made one of these before? My head is kind of large, so I'm always afraid that hats won't fit... if anyone has made one before, how many stitches did you cast on?
I promise a photo when I am done, give me a day or so;)
