Girls, I need a LOT of help ASAP!
I want to be the Snow Queen from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy-tale.
I've been dreaming of pulling this costume off ever since I was little, and now, at 22, I decided to go through with it. ALthough I have a general idea of what I want to accomplish that shouldn't be too difficult, I'd love to get some pointers and spectacular ideas from you girls, because I've seen you do some amazing stuff and there's no one else I'd rather ask.

Here's what I have so far )

THANK YOU SO MUCH AHEAD OF TIME!
I am so excited!!!

Hi! I just wanted to let you all know that there is a brand new forum dedicated just to the Dallas area crafters. It's not meant to compete with the existing forums like this one. The point is to gather our resources into a searchable database of Dallas area crafters, supply stores and craft events.

I invite you to check it out and start posting your business information and favorite places to shop for supplies!

http://www.flyawayhair.com/forums/index.php

And please bear with me while I continue to work on the look and feel of the forum - it will be all sparkly and pretty in no time.

I was wondering how people store paints that come in tubes, like those acyrilic ones you use for craft?
I have been storing mine in a bucket but I'm looking for something neater. I was also wondering how people store their sewing patterns? Mainly out of curiosity, I have mine in a box standing vertically so I can flip through them.

Thanks :)

Good at crafts...bad at livejournal. This is a repost. Sorry.

Well after many comments and a couple of questions I have finally decided to post some finished objects.

Woohoo! I found the fur I asked about a while ago. And of all places, it was at Walmart. I snagged 3 yards for $13ish/yd. Not great, but definitely not bad! It looks like this:

(it's a bit longer and lighter with dark brown on the tips of the fur)

Victory! I am so excited...now I just have to figure out how to sew it to thermals...yeek. Thanks for all of your help!

I had this white shirt which is now a nice shade of purple but i want to know if there is any way to distress it int he style that is now so popular among t-shirts. Sort of fuzzy with darker cuffs. Any ideas? Sorry for the text only, i'll post pics when i'm done. Thanks :D - Lisa

I am determined to make use of everything in my craft box...just so I can accumulate new stuff. :) So I'm devoting all of today to my crafting (now that I realize I don't have homework for tomorrow's placement class). This is a test brooch made out of black and white fabric scraps and a pearl button for detail.

Have any of you put necklaces or jewelery on display to sell?

If so, how did you do it? Or how did you lay out the jewelery?

I thought about some kind of stand but..I don't have any. XD

Thanks!!!

i have this idea and i'm wondering how many people would be interested in partaking. :)

i thought it would be fun to trade knitted or crocheted squares. so we would all have a collection of these random squares from different people, that we could make into an afghan.

what i'm thinking is...
once a month there would be a square exchange that i would organize. i would ask who wants to trade for the next month, and then set up some sort of trading system (ideally so you would be trading with someone different everytime). you don't have to take part every month, if you're too busy that month or for whatever reason. (similar to other monthly trade communities.)

the only requirements are that the square be 8"x8". it can be knitted or crocheted. any size needles/hooks can be used. any colours, any yarns. whatever you want. (so yes in the end you could have a very random mismatched quilt-type blanket, but wouldn't that be fun?!) and it doesn't matter if you're a beginner or an expert. i think what would be really neat about this is just the diversity in each blanket.

would anybody be interested in being involved with something like this? :) or have any ideas/suggestions about it? the lj community for it is [livejournal.com profile] stitchmysquare.

For xmas, I'm making candies to give out as gifts. I'm definatly using cordial cup molds and I want to make some molds with my own fillings, and possibly make my own candies (such as nut clusters). For the cordial cups, I don't want anything too liquidy. Anyone have any good recipies for these? Or any good candy recipie sites?

{edit}
I'm also making candles... scented candles, which I have never done before. Is there certain scented liquids you can't put in with the wax?

Just a few quick questions. These are pertaining to jewelrymaking, of the chain and crystal variety. Not chainmail though! Just lengths of chain, I mean.

Anyway... jump rings or split rings? What's the difference?

Silver plated or sterling silver? Is it a matter of taste or quality? I plan on selling things, nothing professional quality or anything, but would I be better off getting sterling silver chain/findings as opposed to silver plated? Why or why not?

Any good sites for buying Swavorski crystals in particular besides Fire Mountain Gems?

Sorry for the text only- I'm kind of in between crafts right now -but I've got a question for you:

For Christmas I'm putting together little gift boxes for all my best friends -mostly guys, some girls- (some of them are boxes I've made myself, one's a hollowed out book that I made, there's one that was previously a punnet of strawberries that I decoupaged over), and I want to make sure that each of my friends has something that I made myself. So I need some ideas for some small but effective little gifts that I can fill my boxes up with. I'm planning on putting some sweets and stuff in anyway, so I'm not looking for recipies-- but I just want to know if anyone here has any ideas, or if anything's worked for them in the past?

Thanks in advance. xx

--edit-- I'm also really into the whole recycling thing (if you can call it a thing...) so any good recycled gift ideas, even if they're not that small, will be greatly appreciated.

Hurricane!

Well, ladies, I'm about to get rocked like a hurricane. Haha. South FL living... gotta love it!

Anyway, I'm trying to think of some fun ideas to pass time.
I've started embroidering ribbed tanks (wife beaters), but I want some more fun ideas. I also have some blank canvas totes that I'm going to paint & embroider. I'm thinking there will be a rush of jewelry too!

If you have any ideas, send them my way! And expect a huge rush of photos when I do get power back! Haha.

[identity profile] vase-of-acid.livejournal.com
A friend of me asked if I would embroider something onto a shirt of his.

Thing is, it's a dark shirt, so I can't iron-on a stencil or anything, and the design is so tiny, I can't just draw it in chalk. How do I get this bad boy on the shirt, because goodness knows I can't just freehand text without it going all wonky.

Any ideas?

some friends are having their obligatory halloween party next weekend. i stopped by last night and saw the amazing halloween smoke machine robot that daniel had created. i told him he had to post it on cratfster, which he just did. but he doesn't really do the lj thing (yet) so i decided i would show it off for him. it's not purely for show off reasons, but even though it looks amazing it is made with easy to find items. i can't wait to see this thing completed come halloween.

In continuing to make use of what's in my craft box, I made 11 brooches out of vintage buttons. Sometime soon I hope to make some bracelets out of them, too.

(the top right brooch is a white button with a shell on it)

I also made another fabric flower brooch earlier. I wish I had better pictures, but I couldn't get to my scanner and had to settle for my digital camera once again.

Hello my crafty comrads! ^_^

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

^ This was something I made after we moved the first time. We had old wooden curtain rod holders we were going to leave behind, so I snatched one before we left (My mom had told me not to ^-^). Then I painted it and added all the little this that's and whatnots. I suppose it's my little shrine to the moon now. ^_^ It broke awhile back--the marble and one of the stars fell off, along with the thing on the top--and I just fixed it. The thing that was on the top is missing, so I'm thinking about putting something else there instead.

One More Picture and Pancake Meow's Birthday Present... )

Question- I want to use sculpty on a few glasses I have. Is it safe to mold it onto the glass then bake it? It sound quite dangerous to put glass in an oven, but does anyone know if I can do it without killing something? O_o Help would be wonderful!

Much Luv,
Candice

Appearantly my entry was deleted. I hope I didn't break any rules but if I did can someone tell me please?

So anywho, my mom got a bunch of roses from a customer at her workplace and what she wants to do is preserve the petals in a bottle with some sort of oil. Mom was saying she wanted to use baby oil but I'm not so sure if that'll work. What kind of oil is good for perserving the petals or would baby oil do?

Thanks ^_^

Has anyone ordered from http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/? I am looking for some wool coating fabric, and it seems like they've got a good range of colors and an excellent price. I was just looking for good/bad feedback regarding the company. Or any suggestions of other places that you've dealt with and had good experiences with! Thanks bunches =)

P.S. This is the coat I'm making.
