Is there anything you can add to resin to make it colored? Also, can something made of resin be used as a trivet/hotpad? Thanks for the help.

Soo, I recently promoted myself to a job in a very nice restaurant, a little above the Olive Garden - very strict on uniform, creases, 100% cotton, etc. Neckties are required, and, being female and never wearing one before, have finally JUST mastered tying them and have a small, sad collection, as they are getting expensive.. but I'm really excited, mulling over ideas in my head.

I really want to hand-paint/craft on some plain-colored neckties! Though, I'm unsure of an okay type of paint to use. Fabric paint? Okay on silk? It's important that whatever I use, it doesn't flake off, as I am handling peoples' food. Also, how could I "seal" the outside of the tie so if and when a little water or wine gets on the tie, I don't have paint running down my long white apron?

Has anyone ever crafted their own neckties before? Painted on them? Sewn patches, anything? Any ideas?
I've scoured and searched over craftster as well as google. :\

I am very artsy/craftsy, art college student, etc, but I do not know how to sew... never learned...

thanks in advance, if anyone can help :)

(maybe i'm just a slow crochet-er) this is for my sis, Mich! thanks for loving him even though he's imperfect. i'm gonna redo the peach nose and make him a t-shirt to wear, hahaha :D

okay so im a crocheter and a knitter, and i have needles flying all over my house.

ive seen a few knitting/crochet needle holders.
and im planning on making one today, the day before i have to go back to school.

but i cant find any nice paterns.
have you made any cases? do you have a favorite pattern?

and i have about.. 50 needles/hooks all together, so this might be a big case, considering a few of my needles are about 15mm.

im not really sure how i should make it or anything.
like should i make it just roll up with pockets or the needles.
or should i just do a strip of material in the middle haha

I need help ladies and gents!
What are great for straps?
I made a bookbag out of an old pair of jeans a while ago [cut off the legs, sew it up, tadaa!], but I have nothing strong enough that can hold my books and binders [High School can bite me]. Any ideas?
[I'm vegan and don't use leather.]

Thanks so much :]]]] ♥

My new camera case. It's a fish in the event that it wasn't easily recognized. There's a drawstring but you can't see it in the above picture.

So, I'm planning on making a cozy/case for my SP, and I wanted to reinforce it. I was planning on putting some sort of plastic between thin batting, and then covering that in fabric.

But, I was wondering what I should use. Should I use that plastic mesh that's used for needlepoint, or the plastic you buy to make your own stencils? Is there something else better, or does it matter?

Excuse the rambling, slightly incoherent text only post. I'm tired today, and I promise to post pictures when I'm done!

To celebrate the New Year, my hubby and I went to his parent's house. Not exactly the most thrilling thing in the world but we really had nothing better to do (sad, I know). So while he was playing computer games with all the guys, I worked on my scrapbook with my mother-in-law.

I was reading someone's entry not that long ago, and I'm not really sure if it was on here or not but anywho. There was a link to this site http://www.sew-whats-new.com/sewinglessons/
I went and checked it out, then started using the lessons. It's for anyone just learning how to sew and I think it is an essential for anyone here who is a beginner at sewing. I've tried doing things with
t-shirts and other stuff, but it always turned out really really crappy cuz I don't really now how to sew and I think (hope?) this will help. Anyways thought I'd share that with the other beginners. Hope this will help someone!

has anybody found a way to un-curl scarves made with the knifty knitter?

i made a scarf using the smallest loom, and i used triple strands (of just plain acrylic wool) - which made it a lot stiffer than double stranded stuff, and so the curl is even more stubborn. i have tried wetting it and curling it in the opposite direction and leaving it a few days, which helped a bit, but didnt solve the problem entirely.

pics of hats and the scarf... and please don't mind my jammies! )
