these are the only pics i have now but these bags were inspired from an article i saw in ready made
this one was for my roommate

this one is for the gentleman in my life
he designed this bag of peanuts this summer and theyre finally hitting shelves now (look for them in gas stations and vending machines!!! they are peanuts with little disks of jelly) -- so i just got as many as i could and made the bag -- its lined with black contact paper and has a zipper compartment and pencil holders etc. we have yet to exchange so i hope he doesnt think its too tacky!!

Is anyone familiar with how to make one of those lounge pillows?

Kind of like this. I imagine it's not very hard to do, but I was still wondering if anyone was familiar with how to make one, and what the best way to do it is.

Thanks again!

I have a question about paint. I bought a crackle coat at Home Despot in the specialty house paint section. Worked just dandy on my desk. I just attempted putting good ole Apple Barrel brand craft paint over it, thinking it would crackle. No go. Anybody know why? I assumed it was a oil-based crackle coat vs. water-based top coat sort of action, but I'm no expert. Apparently not? Should I buy a tempra paint to go over it? What's gonna give me that crackle!?

Side note: I have a great amount of paint left over from the desk (interior house paint). I'll be saving it in some other containers. Any suggestions on what kind or where to get them? I need something larger than a traditional food jar (like for jams, etc), plus I'm concerned about those metal lids. Can I get empty plastic jars somewhere? I can't eat that much peanut butter!

Sorry this is text only! Maybe next year Santa will bring me a digital camera.

Bayou

The weeping willow that sway over the swamp. Green, dark, mysterious, alive.

I've been thinking alot about swamps lately (I think it was seeing the Skeleton Key recently). I'm collaborating with a friend on a swamp dress too, can't wait to see it finished...not sure if this necklace will suit the dress tho, I think the colors are a little different, but either way...swampy goodness.

Hello! This is my first post... Christmas present for a friend...

Has anyone ever made one? I had one that I bought a bajilloin years ago at university, but it doesnt fit my beat up Compaq, which is a weird size. I've looked online and none really fit the dimensions...

what's the best thing to use as the lining? There has to be some cushioning... I'm not sure if batting is the best thing to use (you know, the quilting stuff).. or is there something more appropriate?

I'd like to give the DIY a try? Checked memories (computer, bags, other topics) to no avail :(

anyone? TIA!!!

I'm making a somewhat complicated -- well, complicated for me -- quilt for my friend's son. I need to mark the seam allowances on the wrong side of the fabric so I know where to sew. Usually I use a piece of thick tape on the bottom part of my sewing machine; I put it as far away from the needle as I need so that when I'm sewing a straight line on the edge of fabric it acts as a sort of a guide. This time, however, the seam needs to be about 1/4" away from the center of the fabric that I'm sewing (and later cutting apart). It's hard to explain, I guess, but my *real* question is this: what do you use for marking on dark cotton fabrics? I've been using quilting pencils that wash out, but they just aren't dark enough on this fabric unless i go over it a million times, which gets really frustrating.

And something I made last week from a cardboard box, scraps of batting, and leftover fleece from pajamas:

Kitty bed!!

(My cat doesn't usually look that weird -- this picture was taken *right* after I finished the bed, and he was kind of mad that I made him sit in it. Now he loves it!)

gnaw

one of my cats chewed the tip of one of my bamboo knitting needles! little bastard... anyway, i filed it down with an emery board and it's functional enough but still snags the yarn a little. i plan to continue sanding it, but does anybody know what i could use as a light glaze/varnish to smoothify them again? i was going to brush on a little clear nail polish but that might be too harsh...

they're my first pair of bamboo needles! i don't want them to die prematurely!

hello + happy new year!

I received some really lovely alpaca roving in a trade and tried my hand at making some beads: here are my first attempts! I strung them on sterling chain with some tiny glass beads and vintage "pearls" from my grandmother.

cheers!

I have been working on some new pendants, on the left are two large Greenman pendants, one wrapped in silver and the other in copper wire. I also painted on in fall colors that I will have to wire wrap and show soon. I really love how these turned out. On the right are a new daintier green man and god of wind pendants, I wore one of these green men out the other day and really liked how it looked, I have a green leaf tee that I think it will look really cool with. All the faces are made with clay :)

hey, i could only find one unextensive entry on this in the memories.

how do I soften brand new jeans? they're old navy brand, 97% cotton and 3% spandex. What I hate is breaking them in because they're tight at the beginning but after I wear them for a few weeks, they fit perfectly.

I want faster results! Does salt in the wash work? How much should I use if I'm just doing a load with two pairs of jeans? Should I put salt in the detergent slot or right in with the jeans? will it damage my machine?

I warn you, this is nothing special.
it's just a cute little idea for leftover tissue paper from gifts.

So... I am in this swap on craftster, for which I had to make a clutch bag, and I have done so, but am overwhelmed by swap anxiety. Opinions much appreciated.

Also, so it's not just whingeing, I have included pictures of a fleecey headband I made with headphones on, and a giant and disgusting doll.

i stumbled into this community off of google and had to join, crafts of the sort you all do and speak of, i love, even if i don't follow through on all, they still fasinate me.

I just got a sewing machine for christmas (It's a Brother) and was SUPER excited (: the first project i am going to begin is my prom dress, i'm doing the Stuck At Prom, the duct tape dress contest i'm sure some of you have heard of!

if any of you have tried it, or have suggestions or ideas, we have the general designs that we would like to do but arent sure how to do it (we, aka me, my "date" i'm afraid isn't going to do much lol)

Inkwells

Jan. 3rd, 2006 05:52 pm
[identity profile] jewddha.livejournal.com
So, I have gotten into using my dip calligraphy pens again, and would like to be able to throw them and my inks ina bag to take with me down to the beach or a cafe, or anywhere. My pens and nibs are safe (modified necklace case from the Bay), but my inkwells are glass, and therefore breakable. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make maybe a padded reval holder/container/anything for my inkwells! These are the inkwells I have http://www.millers-art.co.uk/acatalog/fw.GIF

A girl maybe a few months back made a kickin Fear&Loathing in Las Vegas shirt, with this nifty scribbly-handwriting font. The closest I can find is Rougfhouse, which is a pay font (boo). I don't know if anyone remembers the shirt I'm talking about, but if you can recommend a similar font that would be amaaazing! I promise to post shirt pictures if I manage to find a font;)

When my anthropology teacher asked my class to creatively interpret and (with due cultural respect) recreate Aboriginal Australian paintings, I jumped on the opportunity to bust out the sewing machine.

I don't know about you all, but I like to combine my love of crafts with the necessity of schoolwork. Maybe this might inspire those of you still (unfortunately) in high school to get creative with potentially boring projects.

Before you look at these pictures (I feel kind of weird even posting them) the very least you need to know is that the paintings I "copied" are beyond important to the people who made them. They depict stories and rituals that are secret and incredibly sacred to them. This project was done with the utmost respect for that and only in order to understand their culture better. Also, although Aboriginal cultures are similar, they all have their own stories and these paintings are not all from the same group.

Some Aboriginal Australians began painting with acrylics on canvas in the fifties, but these designs come from ritual paintings done both on the earth and the human canvas for thousands of years before that. I thought it would be interesting to try to bring those designs back from the acrylics to something wearable, and more physically closely attached to the person.

Okay, I'm terribly sorry for the long-winded explanation but felt it was necessary. Aboriginal culture is absolutely fascinating to me and there's no way I could begin to do it justice in a couple short paragraphs, but I couldn't post this without the tiniest bit of background. Here are the pictures. )

Thanks for reading/looking! Sorry there is so much text, but I really do hope you read it.

I think i'm addicted to this community, but have never actually posted anything, but I guess now I will.
I decided to make all my friends gifts this year for Christmas which always seems more meaningful and is much easier on the wallet for an unemployed high school student.

So without further adieu
