Hello I'm Laura and I was trying to get some ideas for my womens seminar class. We're a bunch of highschool girls that meet together once a week and talk about different issues relating to women. Our class is coming to an end so we're having a sleepover out on an island in the Puget Sound. We're trying to think of things to do that help build up self esteem or help bond. I know there are lots and lots of things everyone has done at one time or another so I'd love it if anyone could share. Also I was thinking about maybe making Bras about of paper mache do we could all paint them or all write things we like about eachother on them....I just wasn't sure how to go about doing that....or maybe make plaster molds of breasts and we could all paint them all strangly....god knows that sounds crazy...but I go to an alternative school where things like that are very normal. Anyways...any ideas on craft projects or activities would be fabulous!!!!!

Heres a picture of Talula The Talking Tampon. I made her for class because we were all talking over eachother in class and needed something to pass around and only the person holding her could talk. I'm gonna make 12 mini beanie Talula's for everyone in class.

Hello,

In a few months my webhosting will expire (I had 3 free years with 1&1 hosting). 1&1 isn't the best, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to jump to other hosting. That's where you come in -- who is your web hosting provider? I've hear good things about www.bluehost.com but wanted to get other opinions. I'm looking for great support, harddisk space, and possibly easy wordpress integration. I'll also be opening a DIY store using the site, so bandwidth is important.

Thanks for the help!
Indy

P.S. if this isn't appropriate I will remove it ASAP

ZOMG first post for meeee! XD

Bonjour! I love this community muchly. Forgive the squeeing - this is quite nerveracking!

...as of late, I have never got chance to sew as much as I'd like, but on Tuesday I made this bag entirely from scratch using an old XL Transformers' T-shirt. ^_^

I HEART TRANSFORMERS ARTCORE!!! *groan* )

*gasp* what's this another post?! yes.. some more stuff i've sewed lately.

this first one I made from a plus sized skirt & shirt set that i retrieved while cleaning out my mom's friend's uncle's house haha. the picture doesn't do it justice.. the top of the front is gathered and such into the band and there's a little button.

(+3)

Also if anyone has any ideas for what I could make out of my old undies. I have a bunch of cool underwear from when I was little that I refuse to get rid of but I'd like to do something other than stuff them in a drawer. There's definitely not enough to do something like a quilt so please suggest :)

Hopefully this won't fall into the dreaded category of "gift post" but feel free to delete if it does.

I'm making a scrapbook for my boyfriend for our anniversary. It's sort of a last minute decision, since our anniversary is January 22nd, so I don't have much time. All of my pictures are digital, so I'm getting them printed today. I don't have lots and lots of pictures. I also sorted through my saved ticket stubs and found a big stack from concerts, movies, plays, etc that we saw together. I'm hoping for suggestions on what else to add/how to make it look pretty without being *super* labor-intensive, that sort of thing. I've never really made a scrapbook before.

Ideas, anyone? Thanks!

so lately i've been all about card suits and i have no idea why! so last night i made this from a grid pattern my mom had and the bead loom that i got when i was 12 and never used. i'm going to back it with some fabric and elastic so i can slip it on.

hi, so...

i got hot glue on my left hand's forefinger, and it hurt so @(#$&$@*@#& much. quickly immersed it in cold water to stop the burning and get the glue off, but my finger stings pretty bad and now it looks like it has some sort of blister on it (it's the only part that stings):

cut because i don't know if you'll find this gross )

should i worry about this? i've never burned myself before on anything, so i don't know if this is normal. and also - how can i help relieve the pain?? it stings so bad. >_< so much for crafting today. i'm sick and crafting was the only way to make being sick not so bad.

a warning - no matter how careful you are, mistakes happen. i'm always going to wear gloves when i use my hot glue gun from now on. :\

edit: ty for the help ;) craftgrrls to the rescue!

Hi! I only joined recently, and so far I adore looking at everything everyone has posted and leaving my feedback. We've got a really great community here!

I'm not nearly as crafty as many of you, although I want to be. *laughs* I'm mostly a seamstress, and have done a few costumes here or there...

I also enjoy making small things out of Sculpy. I'd love to know what everyone here thinks of my stuff. I usually make pandas along the lines of Tare Panda by San-X, although I've made one cat along the line of San-X's Nyanko or "food cat" line.

I also have a really silly question. A while back, I painted a kanji character on a scrap of black fabric (kind of shiney, kind of stretchy, may be stretch satin but I'm not sure). It turned out REALLY well, and I don't really know what I should do with it! It was a scrap, so it's funny shaped, but I'm sure I could square it off. But my biggest problem is the fact that I didn't end up leaving much 'seam allowance' on the edges. Well, much allowance at all. There's probably not even an inch around that isn't painted, or maybe just an inch. Any ideas of what I should do with this baby?

My 12 year old brother is really into Spongebob Squarepants (still...thankfully, since I bought this fabric to make a Christmas gift for him 2 years ago and I just now got around to it).

What the heck is a snuggle bag?... )

I've been so bored, as I'm still home on break from school, with most of my friends not local and my family is all back at work, and I don't drive or anything....

so I've been crafting! Today this is what I made

he's made out of a pair of socks, that have been lying around my house with the pattern cut out of women's day in april of 1984 (like, 4 months before I was born, haha)
I'm going to send him to my 6 month old niece, who lives in georgia.

I wanted to know others' experience with gold leaf or gilding as I am a complete novice. I have the tops of my dresser and two bedside tables I want to gold leaf. They seem to be made out of some sort of laminate which reminds me of flooring. I also want to gild the edges of a large mirror.

I live in an apartment and it's winter here so I can't move the pieces outside. I need something that has as little smells/fumes as possible. Also the less messy the better, but I have a feeling that's a little idealistic. I've been looking at quite a few products and wondered if any of you had recommendations.

I don't need to go with actual gold leaf if there are better alternative but that is the look I am seeking. It seems the options are real gold leaf, fake gold leaf, liquid gold leaf paint, and fake gold paint. I'm not sure which would be best. Also, when googling this one of the websites said a trade secret for the sealant is creating a lacquer out of an egg white and 5 oz of water. Would this work? Would it smell or rot?

Thank you for your time, any advice would be most appreciated. :)

PS. Bonus points for any creative suggestions on making my own drawer pulls.

I searched through memories and found some info on curing Speedball water-based inks used to screenprint on fabric, but I'm looking for more detail, if anyone can help.

It takes so long to iron each shirt; about 10 minutes if you count moving the shirt around and turning it inside out to get both sides etc. Is there a faster way? I'm ironing 3 minutes on one side and 2 on the other, which is actually a minute less than the minimum suggested on the bottle (I'm using the Opaque inks). But it seems to be okay; I've washed them several times and they're fine.

But would a heat gun be faster? Or putting them in the dryer? I'd like to find a way to do a whole bunch in a shorter amount of time. I'm new at this and I'm thinking that others here have figured out better ways of doing it. I'd be willing to spend a few hundred dollars on some kind of heater, if it would do the job. Does the ink need to reach a certain temperature, and for a certain amount of time?

Thank you very much for any advice you can offer! Ironing gets sooooooooo boring!! (plus takes valuable time away from designing & printing!)

i want to make something like the rice sacks you can microwave for heating pads, but with cold instead; is there anything other than rice or barley that would chill and retain the cold? i can't use anything liquidy.

thanks!

Hi there. I looked through the memories and got a lot of good info about glass etching and the stenciling process... I just have one little question that I couldn't find an answer for...

Is there a way to create a RE-usable stencil?

I want to etch a logo, the year (2006) and some text on 96 champagne glasses for an art installation that I'm doing, but I really don't want to exacto-cut-out 96 stencils...

It would also be helpful to know that I'm out of luck... I'll go ahead and splurge on the custom created stencils... Not very diy, but... Well... I'll figure out a way to justify that part... :-)

Thanks!

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with heavy duty outdoor fabrics (Ballistics Nylon, etc)? I am going to be making a bag for a friend of mine who tends to beat up his stuff so I am making it strong enough to survive all that, but I would as soon not break my sewing machine so any tips would be fantastic. I'm sorry that this is a text only post, I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow.

How would I go about making 'puff' sleeves as in this picture: http://www.pulpvintage.com/pics/items/02010067.jpg

But short sleeves.

I'd be hand sewing if that helps at all.

Sorry for the text only.

so i hit the jackpot. a lady on a local craft list was giving away some yarn, she said it was mostly acrylic and some cotton, so here i am thinking its just handcraft cotton, the stuff for dishcloths. well low and behold i got it home, and there is about 7 hanks (6 already wound into balls) of butterfly mercerized cotton. its from greece. This is the stuff that got me turned onto yarn when i was working at lewiscraft back in the day.

so each hank has about 125 grams, and 230 meters in it. its 22sts = 10cm on a 4mm.

now im not sure if i want to crochet or knit with it. Im better at crochet, but this is such nice stuff and would look great in something that is stocknit *sp?* but im a novice with knitting. I know enough to teach basic knit and purl stitches, and i have done ONE drop stich scarf, but nothing much more then that.
I am quite advanced in crochet, but i do like the look of knitting more.

so i am on my quest. I need a pattern. I was thinking something like a shrug, i know i have enough for that, but i am sure i dont have enough for more then that. I was also thinking mabey a skirt? but im not sure. ALSO im pluss sized. im a big girl. I fit a dress size 22 at the stores (dont want to ever measure myself) and im quite busty (DDD or DDDD depending) I would also like something that i could get some use out of. not something that i would just wear on special occasions.

so hit me up with the patterns!!!!
