Here's a quilted bag I finished today. I was so sad to give it away, but it was the most exciting present ever.

it's a bag! )

I totally just made my first two pairs of earrings ever... first pieces of jewelry for that matter, and I am so proud! Lots of flaws, I know.. I see them but I don't mind! With time and patience, comes a better product! :-) I don't have my ears pierced just yet so I can't wear them.. but I am getting them pierced (uh, for the third time..) this week and I am looking forward to many hours spent cursing, dropping beads and squeezing the tips of my fingers in my pliers :-)

I looked in the memories but I couldn't find what I was looking for...

I am just learning how to knit and I did a little swatch in the knit stitch and one in the purl stitch.

But they look exactly the same.

So I was wondering if you guys to give me a link to show me what knit stich is suppose to look like and what purl stitch is suppose to look like.

Thanks a bunxh.

Is anyone aware of regulations regarding knitting needles/crochet hooks on planes from the US to Canada? The posts in the memory section about this are a little dated. I *think* it's allowed, but want something to back me up as it's already a work-in-progress. :]

If you're my boyfriend & have somehow found this, don't look at my newly sewn project )

Hi, everyone! Sorry for the text-only post, but I have a business-related question and thought this community was the best place to turn. I'm not trying to sell anything here, but if this breaks any community rules let me know and I'll delete.

I opened an online store this month and am trying to get the word out. As has been suggested in the memories, I've advertised my stuff at LJ communities that allow it, and have registered my site with Bust.com, DIY Revolution and other independent craft databases. I'm preparing to send an assortment of things to The Sampler soon. So now it seems like my last option is advertising.

Have any of you had success with advertising your business, and where? For non-businessfolk, on which sites do you usually click ads? And finally, have I covered all my bases, or is there anything else I can do to spread the word?

Thanks so much for any feedback you can give me!

They are not be making new episodes of the show Simply Quilts! Those bastages! If you love quilting, even if you do not actually watch this show, please sign the following petition to try to help save it: http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/simplyquilts

Reruns simply will not cut it, quilting is changing, expanding, and mixing mediums.... especially in the art quilt forum... reshowing shows from 2 years ago will not be a service, they will be a handicap to someone new who is wanting to take up this skill. Part of Simply Quilts main draw is how up to date the info it offers is.

A bit off topic but I think this community is worth it.

It is time to nominate blogs for the annual Bloggies. This is an online competition for blogs. There are several categories including best craft blog.

Guess what I nominated? lol.

You can nominate this wonderful blog here http://2006.bloggies.com/

I've been busy making jewelery today, and it's only three. I love vacation.

So this is a necklace I made, basically, three strands of seed beads loosely braided.

Large image behind cut, beware.

I wanted to make a belt like that. I have absolutely no problem getting the belt strap or the buckle. The problem is that I don't know how to go about coating the thing.

Does anyone have any clue?

My mom begged me to wrap a Very Late holiday present for her little friend, a 5-year-old boy named Kenny. I only had boring, mature wrapping paper and less than an hour to do it, so I whipped up a little dino out of some felt:

(He liked the dino more than the actual gift.)

yarn type?

What brand/type of yarn would you suggest for knitting washcloths?
So this isn't text only, here's a pic of my middle cutie wearing his fave of all my knitty goodness:

my 2nd time making some soaps.
I got some soap supplies at the craft store and then went to a dollar store and found neon dinosaurs and halloween party favors including rubber rats, bats, and flies. unfortunately the flies didn't come out out too well. maybe i can put them to some other use. i used green apple and lilac scents.
i also realized you can't really take a good picture of soap.

Hello ...

Hi all, new type person here. I stumbled across this group and was fascinated by the wealth of crafts and knowledge in it - so I felt compelled to join.

I'm a RL fashion design student, mostly interested in the patternmaking end of it all, but I do enjoy the side that explores corsetry, bridal wear and the like. I also am into beading to some degree, and costume design.

I hope I can share my knowledge with you, learn some new skills, and I look forward to meeting you all.

Cheers!

Fabric question:
Is there any sheer fabric that would be effective as a shower curtain liner? I want to be able to toss it in the washer, which I can't do with the vinyl, but I like how much light the clear vinyl lets in. I have a nifty printed vinyl shower curtain that goes over the outside, so there would be a bit of a backup barrier if it wasn't quite perfect.

Well it's a little past holiday time, but I also put some craftiness to work for gifts this past season... a little cross stitching, jewelry, knitting, teddy bears, and a funny craft! (6 pics) )
[identity profile] wannaseestars.livejournal.com
Two topics of matter here..

Craft supplies. I have tons of beads and other craft supplies that I need to get rid of. What are some Lj Communities that get great traffic where I can sell my stuff? Are there any other websites that help out with this? I know eBay, obviously..but I try to sell there..and they're a rip!

Mosaic tiles. Now whats the difference if I used stained glass chips or mosaic tile chips? Are the stained glass chips used for a completely different project than mosaic projects? I'm wanting to learn how to create mosaic tile pieces, I was just wondering if it made a differences if you used the tiles or stained glass. I'm wanting to do something with this flower pot I have. If I can't use the stained glass pieces, then what type of projects would they be used for?

Is there anyone experienced in mosaic tiling, that could help me out with a supply list? I'm going to start out small with just my little flower pot, and if I enjoy it enough..then I'll move on to a bigger project. So a nice supply check list, along with begging to advance project suggestions would be great!Thank you!

Cat Tent!

Jan. 6th, 2006 11:46 pm
[identity profile] bubbledragon.livejournal.com
This is my demon cat, Taboo. I could not for the life of me get rid of that glare, even if she wasn't looking directly at the camera/flash. Oh well.

I made this tent from the simplicity pattern, and used $2 walmart dot fabric for the outside, and neat flannel on the inside. It's got dogs and cats in rocket ships. I didn't want to pay to ship 'basketweaving spline' to me, so I tried like I'd seen someone else do, and used pvc pipe.

But I'm not that talented, and it bent in half. It still stands, though. I had to alter the tab system a bit, and I may further yet, on my next attempt. Make 'em a bit wider, and allow more girth for the poles. Boo loves it - I can hear her purring from across the room. (Until now, she had claimed a pop-up laundry basket as her personal hidey-tent, so this is a step up in the world.)

Anyhow, here's the picture. If anyone can tell me how to gently curve the PVC (I even tried heating it up in hothot water and then with a hair dryer), please comment.

Rocket Cat! )

My next project is silkscreening. If only I had more space for all this creativity!! Guh.
