in case you're not quite sick of text-onlys yet...

how do you make sea glass? out of, say, a handful of shattered bottle shards?
i was thinking i'd put them all in a bottle with water and shake it a lot. but that doesn't seem like enough.
what are your thoughts?

x-posted a bit. my apologies.

I am going to try and mosaic some flat plastic/metal chips onto a cardboard box and I'd like to prep it. I want to color the box either black or white but should I use paint? I want to make sure that the glued pieces will adhere permanently and I'm worried the painted layer make flake off.

Suggestions?

I'd like to make a blanket for my toddler... it "sounds" simple enough in my head. Just wondering if anyone out there has made one, has instructions, advice, etc.

I'm not so much interested in quilting, but rather, sewing to pieces of fabric together and stuffing. Does that sound right/familiar?

Thanks a lot.

Somebody said that the zebra cookie cutters could easily be used for My Little Pony cookies, so I decided to use my left over dough and icing and make My Little Pony cookies.

They didn't come out as good as I had hoped, but oh well.

Yesterady I went on a madrush to finish my friend's (belated) birthday present. I was originally going to use cordorouy fabric, but the black dye kept rubbing off everywhere, and even after I soaked the fabric and rang it out, there was still a lot of excess dye in it. GRR.

I ended up using plain black cotton fabric.

It has a ribbon closure and a Jack Skellington applique on the front.

Right, so, I've got some plain, cheap, brown air dry clay to use up, and I figured I can make small bead type things and bits of jewelry supplies with it. However, the brown is pretty ugly and I'd like to be able to paint over it and then doodle or write little designs (symbols, people's initials, etc) on the clay once it's dried, maybe even with a plain old Sharpie marker. My question is what kind of paint/ other material would I use? I'm afraid of any colour or ink getting rubbed off because the clay's pretty dusty and smudgy. Is there some kind of sealant I could put on after that would keep that from happening?

Thanks.

they melted plastic army men to make a bowl! i never thought of that as an idea.. *melting toys* has a lot of potential.. i guess this could be done with doll pieces too.. with LOTS of ventilation, of course..
:)

*EDIT* sorry i didn't realize this was in the memories....there were a few sections of that i hadn't completely browsed through yet. but someone is certainly trying to make a bunch of money off this idea! there are helpful tutorials below in the replies...and apparantly it's not as easy as it looks to get it perfect... thanks everyone for your helpful input!

Does anyone know a marker I could use to write on top of a wooden surface that is painted with acrylic paint? I've tried sharpies but they don't work very well. Thanks.

Earlier this week I made my first stenciled sweatshirt for a friend. It's not perfect, but I think I did good for my first try at it. :)

Pictures! )

Most people use freezer or contact paper, but I saw sticker paper and thought I would try that out instead. The small detailed parts of the stencil didn't stick so well to the fabric, but it didn't really give me any problems. The lines of the wings aren't the smoothest... I was in a rush to get it done so I couldn't spend as much time on it as I wanted to.

In the past I've just used fabric paint and would freehand the picture I was doing. Afterwards the fabric would always be so stiff and after a few washes would crack :( I think the way I did it this time was a lot better, though. The fabric is still extremely soft and flexible :) Hopefully soon I can make some more!

So I was bumming around my local yarn shop, and came across a pattern in a Cat Bordhi book. It was for felted needle cozies (and a quiver for them all as well). I decided it was a good place to try felting...

So my husband and i are posted this summer. As yet we don't know where we are going, and i am nervous, excited and sad at the thought. We'll be leaving our first home behind, we got married here, had our first pet here, brought our only child home from the hospital to this house, dealt with sickness and death here, and really became a family here.

so in order to get me excited about the move, my hubby suggested i think of a new theme for our room. he was thinking color wise, i was thinking ohh theme... So as a big Phan, our room is going to be decorated in a Phantom of The opera theme.

I have a Phantom painting, 4 collectors ornaments, a piano book (with keyboard) a special book from the last season the Phantom ran in the Pantages Theatre in Toronto.

I want to make a few things: The mask (using my husbands face and plaster of paris), a phantom Teddy bear, a quilt, some throw pillows, and the one thats going to be hardest and most fun - a broken candle chandeleir of doom and exposition.

and i'll put the image and the rest under a cut for lenght )

Hey everyone,
So I want to make a beaded chandelier/candleholder. yep. in my mind it will be fabulous, somewhat morrocan, with beads all over and dangly crystals, etc.
However, I have no idea where to start. I was thinking that I should maybe buy a wrought iron candleholder and then just hang strings of beads on that, but thats not exactly what i had in mind.

Does anyone know of how I would go about it, or does anyone have any websites that could be helpful?
Thank you!

I had a thought whilst sewing Fuzzy Felt to material to try the same thing with cards (except without the pre-cut time-saving neatness, note I started with a simple shape).

From this...

When I still had piles of cut olives to stitch to the rest of the card. (Please ignore the dodgy duvet cover)

To this...

(via greeny purple ink everywhere, changing coloured cartridges in fountain pens is kinda dangerous). I think they turned out really well, the sequins help (sequins always help)!

1 pair of scissors

Scarf #1. Moda Dea Eden and Aerie. Basic striped pattern.

I think I like the wrong side better.

Scarf #2. Blossom by Trendsetter Yarns. Just straight garter stitch, with the texture I thought it was best to just let the yarn do its own thing.

Hello! Does anyone know where I can get chenille stems and/or pipe cleaners with different gauges / strengths like wire? The standard chenille stems they sell at the craft store are too wimpy for me, and I’d like something stronger. I’ve searched online for chenille stems of varying gauges, but most of the differences appear to be the width of the fuzz, not the strength of the wire. Any guidance would be appreciated!

While I was laying out my wool sweater to dry after I had handwashed it, I noticed there was a small hole where there was none before :(

Are there any tips to fix it? Would it be wise to take it to a place to reweave it?

Finished this up this evening, but not sure what to do with it yet ...

So far I've thought about a door hanger, and a decorative bed pillow (the E is for my daughter ... she's eight). What do yall think? Any better ideas for its use?

Not only did I finish this today, but I also went to Joann (again!) and filled out my DMC collection some more. I now have TWO of those great new StitchBow storage boxes FILLED with floss. I also went across the street to Michael's (to get a few colors of floss that Joann was missing) ... and ended up with nine of the bazillion colors of Mill Hill beads I need for the Celtic Seasons.

Still need the linens (28 count, four different colors) ... any suggestions on who's got the best prices online? The local stores just don't have them at all.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice!

I haven't posted here in a while.
I have been working on a lot of jewelry and scarves, though.
I plan on opening up a website in the next few months,
anyway I had a really neat idea of what to do with some cameos I ordered.
I made a pendant and I wanted to share so check it out )
