Thanks sooo much to everyone who suggested questions and writing prompts for the travel journal. I re-worded a lot of the questions, but used almost everyone's suggestions. I gave it to my friend today at the airport, and he loved it- he even cried a little.

Here's a photo of the finished book and a list of the questions I put inside:
i forgot to take a photo until we got to the airport bar... oops! )

Is it dangerous to recycle chandalier prisms into jewelery elements because of their lead content? In other words... Is leaded crystal dangerous?

Just some clothes I recently made. Have to make myself some spring/summer clothes next week! I went on a huge fabric shopping spree a few months ago and I've been starring at the piles of fabric. It takes me a while before I dare to cut into them! Pics behind the cut.....

hi all, i don't know if I'm posting this to the right place. It's not really a what-do-I-make-my-so and so question, it's more of a craft activity question. I checked the memories, no luck!

A good friend of mine always throws the best parties and thinks of the best activities for other people's showers. She's pregnant, due in June, and we're throwing her baby shower at the end of April. She is SO not about the traditional baby shower games and I know she'd much rather do some kind of fun craft thing. The only idea I've been able to come up with is getting a good size canvas, dividing it up like a quilt and having each guest paint one or two sections (using only colors that would go with the baby's room, so it would match). The only other thing I could think of was beading our own jewelry and we just did that at a friend's bridal shower we went to a few weeks ago! (For her bridal shower we created a scrapbook for her where all of us did one page and wrote nice things to her; she loved it.)

Any ideas would be so appreciated!! It could be a collaborative project where we make something together for the baby, or something where we make things for ourselves to take home. We're trying not to spend a crazy amount of money, but do have some to spend .. we want it to be fun, and something we could do in under an hour would be great!!

THANKS for your ideas!

Puppetry

Puppets. what do you all know about puppets?
My french class has to do some presentations, and I convinced my partner that we're going to make part of ours into a puppet show (to carry on the theme of us being completely over the top). It's a short story, circa late 1800's (the "second chapter" to Guy de Maupassant's "La parure"), and full of random happenings (hot air balloon, pirates, chimney sweeps, a choralistic militia, etc...). I was thinking sock puppets for the main 2 or 3 characters and cardstcok/fabric cutouts for the rest (which are only mentioned, not actually presented... like a dream sequence).

What ideas do you all have as per puppet style, materials, anything?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the text-only, but when it's done, there will be photos.

[EDIT] they are done, they are grotesque and adorable. pics tomorrow

I read the FAQ's but there are so many different kinds of transfer paper.

Does anyone have the Burlington Brand Iron on Transfers? I am making baby onesies.... but I lost the instructions sheet, and now I can't figure out what the hell I am doing! The image IS NOT sticking to the shirt!

My brother said he did tshirts before, and they turned the shirts inside out and did it that way. I haven't made these in a year or so, but for some reason.... turning it inside out rings a bell. Geesh!

If you can help, that would be Super Duper Awesome!

Thanks,
Lor

Sun Charms

Sun charms are made with beads that react to UV rays. They're really handy if you've got sensitive skin that burns easily. I use them as a reminder to reapply my sunblock. I put a little bit of sunblock on the beads, and when the beads turn bright colors again I know my own sunblock has worn off. Here's a couple charms I made for my friends.

You might know these chiffon scarves that the morbid Catholics decorate the headstones on the graves of their recently deceased with. I have loved those forever and badly wanted one to wear as a veil, but have always been too well-behaved/anal-retentive to just steal one from a grave. This morning, I tried making one myself; and since I can't stitch a straight line by hand for the life of me, I used my sewing machine as a means for embroidering the two crosses.

This scarf/veil was only a test for the technique, but turned out very pretty, methinks:

If you have got any suggestions of things, details, that I should add...let me know.
I might sew some lace onto the hems or add some rhinestones or little bats to the crosses' "arms", or just leave it as it is...haven't decided yet.

Today I made a bunch of stuff.

I made baby onsies for friends of mine having a baby, diaper ointment, and body balm (for pregnant belly!). The other day I made some Fuzzy Navel Lip Balm, and I am very happy with it. Although, I needed almost a whole 2oz bottle of flavor oil... which kinda sucks. But, I am going to be making some more today - Coconut flavored balm. And just so you know..... they are Vegan safe. No animal products were used. :) That is how all of my body products are made. I want everyone to be able to enjoy them.

I think I am going to sell them for $1.50 a piece and the add $0.50 for shipping. Is that a fair price? Too high? Too low? I never sold it before, and well.... I have a habit of selling things WAY too cheap! LoL

Now, I am off to make Toasted Coconut lip balm! :)

*EDIT - I didn't factor in my time.... I usually don't. I have so fun doing it, that I often forget. This is a HUGE problem in my photography business. Doh! I guess I will sell them for $3.50 Thanks for the input on prices. :)

So I got bored during my spring break a couple weeks ago, and made some stuff and got around to taking pictures of some older crafts. This is a really inspiring community! Under the cut is various jewelry pieces, a face mask, marble magnets, and other crafty things... Forgive the slightly blurry images, my camera has been abused and is dying...

Hello everyone,

I'm a first time poster but a long time "lurker."

Anyway, I'm designing the costumes for my high school's spring show, Peter Pan. We're trying to keep it PC by switching the "Red Skins" to Native Neverlandians. Now, all these Neverlandians are elementals (earth, wind, fire, water, moon, and sun). I've designed all of them except one: sun... I'm stumped as to how to covey light and heat, without making the costume too flame-y (as in fire). I was thinking a big pendent to symbolize the sun with the actual clothing being light blue, as in sky. The problem with this is that I think it's kind of boring compared to the rest of the Native Neverlandians.

Do you have any ideas? By the way: this is for a male and he needs to be able to drum and have a lot of mobility.

Help?! please?

EDIT: I'm going to try and post as many of my drawings as possible so everyone can get a general idea of what I have in mind for the show. It's really out there.

An example of what I'm looking for can be found here.

I've been making ridiculous cards for awhile now, and here are a few samples from tonight's batch )

Usually I just make junk up while I clip funny things from magazines and glob it all together. This time I made a logo for the back that promotes my website (from whence I'd hope to sell them) and it gives me credit for making the cards. But even though I like the handwritten junky quality of it, others might not. And even with store bought evelopes and everything, I don't know if it's "quality" enough to sell or have given away to any but the closest friends. If anybody has a good tip on making the lettering more professional without spending a ton of money, I'd appreciate it.
