All the yarns pictured in the collage were hand dyed and handspun by me on my Ashford Traditional wheel from Domestic, Merino, and Falkland wools. Well, except the yellow and pink one, which is Falkland wool plied with microfiber yarn.

Not only am I proud of the yarns, I'm insanely proud that I figured out how to make the collage using MS Paint!

Hello :)

I'm in the market for a cheap, dependable machine. Costco has a Brother XR-52C for only $119 and change - within the budget - but I'm not finding that model on any of the review sites. I've heard good and bad things about the brother machines. Anyone have any advice? It comes with a hard case, which I really like, and has 52 stitches and a removable arm part.

I'm looking to do basic sewing, clothes mostly...and a few crafts.

Here's the link to the machine, if you're interested.... http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=10023464&ec=BC-EC877-CatHome&pos=3

Thanks for any advice!

Lately I saw an amazing design someone made on eggs that I really liked.
So now I want to surprise my parents with hand-painted eggs for easter
But I'm not really sure if I can use acrylic paint on them?
Will that infect the taste of the eggs?

What paint do you suggest to use on them?

Oh and PS. I'm new on LiveJournal so I'm still kinda trying to find out how everything works. Is there anyone who can help me a bit? It would be really appreciated!

I especially like the froggie applique and the teeny buttons.

My son's birthday is coming up and loot bags cost so much these days, I like to plan crafts for the kids where they can take what they made home as a party favor and have an activitie to keep them busy at the same time. A few years back I bought a box of light switch plates for the kids to paint and take home. I also got some plastic green potting plants and soil from my mom's and a few packages of flower seeds from the dollar store so the kids could pick and plant their own flowers and take them home to care for. Now my son is turning nine and I'm having troubles thinking of some good cheap ideas that would even interest kids their age. I'm thinking maybe painting shirts or pillow cases but even that could get pricey depending on how many kids he wants to invite. Please help!!

ETA: looking for crafts that you end up with something worth keeping, not the kind of craft that ends in the trash by the end of the week.

[livejournal.com profile] bringthefunk's entry (in [livejournal.com profile] t_shirt_surgery) inspired me and I made one of my own... )

Oh, and she made a tutorial: here's the link, if you want it. Go! Everyone must own something with braided straps.

And so it's not a total copycat post, here's my very unfinished but very hot dress. )

Thanks!

Okay, so here's the deal guys. Basically, I just made the cutest dress ever. EVER! And I made it in under 24 hours (which counts 9 hours of sleep and a trip to the fabric store for a zipper and some other odds and ends). So basically it is completely DONE, *but* I'm wondering if I should attach the bow to the front (as the pattern calls for) or skip it? Let me know what you think...

so, now that i have painted my shoes (which i promise to post pictures of later on tonight) is there something i should use to seal them? i'm worried about exposing plain old acrylics to the elements. should i just use a regular decoupage medium, or real paint sealer, even though i've painted on fabric?

I usually post under the name of melevenstar, but I opened my own shop and am posting under this name. Here's a few things from it that I've worked hard on. Thanks to other jewelry makers for inspiration and neat ideas!

My friend wants something with a collar like this... )
But I have no idea how we should go about creating it, so does anyone know of a material that's relatively easy to work with that we could get to that shape?
Thanks for any advice.

Two of my favorite summer dresses are the same cut: loose, flowy princess seams with inset gores--Starina, if you're familiar with that style. The gores start at a few inches below the bust. On someone willowy, this would be just fine, but I am a busty girl. Add to this that they are about a size too big, and you can imagine that this is inching up on the maternity-dress look.
I really like the dresses despite this, and I'm tempted to modify them to give them a bit better shape, but all the seams are french seams, so would take forever to unpick. If I'm going to put that much work into it, maybe I should just make similar but better dresses from scratch! Which would you do?

I'm looking for a tutorial on turning t-shirts into undies, but for thong-style underwear, rather than brief-style. I looked in the memories and all I could find was the brief-style. If anyone knows of anything like what I'm looking for, that would be super rad! =]

Thanks guys!!

((sorry for the text only, I should have some stuff done soon))

Have been lurking around for sometime, so decided to post something that I had just completed. I tried crochet with a different kind of yarn that I normally use. Eventhough he's not supposed to be a "grouchy bear" in the first place, but anyway I'm still quite pleased with how Grumps turned out to be.
