A Houndstooth Birthday Purse
Jun. 15th, 2006 12:44 amI have been in a creative slump. I haven't sewn anything since October when I made Halloween costumes. Last semester of school sucked the life out of me. All I ever wanted to do is sleep and sleep and sleep some more! No time for sewing or knitting or anything! Now it is summer and finally I got inspiration from some houndstooth fabric I bought at least six months ago.
One of my best friends has her birthday on Friday and she is always looking for a purse large enough to carry all of her knitting projects and yarn. This purse is definitely big enough. TOO BIG.

I know that this is kind of a general question... but i'm really out of ideas!
Q: What are some cute, original, or unique ways to decorate bags, similar to this one?

(I made this a few weeks ago with the skipping bag tute.)
I try and stick with simple bags and jazz them up with little diddly doos and such.
It seems like such a silly question that could be answered easily, but for some reason, i've run out of ideas. Usually, I get my ideas from other designers and then I run with their ideas until I get my own rendition (but not a carbon copy, because thats just lame!)
Any ideas, quick fixes, or pictures are welcome!
-EDIT: Sorry, I didn't make this clear... I didn't mean THAT BAG neccesarily, I just mean plain bags in general. =)

HELP PLEEEASE
Jun. 15th, 2006 12:00 pmok so i'm a big sister in the big brothers/big sisters of america program. i was going to take my little to a pottery studio today to paint a mug for her dad for father's day. i stupidly assumed i could pick up the mug the next day, after it was fired in the kiln. i waited to do this so close to father's day because i figured she wouldn't be able to keep it a secret if we did it way ahead of time. anyway....i called today just to check and the woman said it takes a WEEK to pick up the pottery, so now im totally out of luck.
do you guys have any cute craft ideas for us to do for father's day? preferably with items i can pick up at michael's or something? i'm panicking here, since i promised that other father's day craft. thanks in advance.

coating end of ribbons so they stay nice.
Jun. 15th, 2006 12:10 pmWhat can I coat the end of ribbon with so the ends and the sides of cut ribbon doesn't snag and unravel? It has to dry clear and not look gummed up or anything I was thinking maybe a thin coating of bee's wax stuff or something?

Jun. 15th, 2006 03:27 pmI haven't made anything since I started grad school, but I felt sick today so I stayed home from work, then felt better enough to make a little slipcover for my darling new Macbook and one for my sturdy old iPod to match. Very mod.

I think it goes well with the white hardware.
PS Philly knitters represent.

Jun. 15th, 2006 03:27 pmMy sewing machine stillll isnt fixed, ( so this is all hand sewn... )
I remember in kindergarten or something we did crafts involving melting crayon flakes between a sheet of wax paper using an iron It was supposed to resemble stained glass. Any one else Remember that? Well I'm also curious what other things you can do with fusing wax paper. I tried to iron a leaf into wax paper today, but you can't really see the leaf through the milkyness of the paper. The idea was though to seal it, as in pressed leaf.

Jun. 15th, 2006 10:52 pmHi! Short-time lurker, first-time poster and a Sculptey schmuck/Fimo freak to boot!
My thing is making little keychains and pawning them off on unsuspecting friends and family.
I have a question for the more-seasoned Fimo-flingers... how the heck do you keep your white clay from collecting every bit of stray dust, dirt, eraser boogies, and everything else under the sun? It doesn't matter how I try to keep it separate from the others, it always ends up picking up bits of crud and colour from who knows what and I end up having to touch it up with white paint. Any hints?

Note: one of the critters has some clay + cartoonish blood on it and another one has nads.
Be ye fairly warned!

Jun. 15th, 2006 11:31 pmI have been experimenting with crocheting things other than yarn. Recently we visited some friends who live in a very rural part of Oregon. While we were at the town store (think slightly bigger than a 7-11) I found some bright colored plastic "tape" (not sticky) and decided to try making something out it it. I believe it is actually used to tie onto 4-wheelers to make them easier to see or to flag property lines. This started as a bag, but my friend's daughter decided it looked more like a hat. She flipped it inside out and wore it for the rest of the weekend. I added the second color and the "flower" when she was sleeping. I would never wear it, but it looks cute on her!
