I haven't seen this posted here before, so I thought I'd share:
I've had some problems accessing the site tonight--a lot of page loading errors. I haven't looked into it extensively, but I think it seems like a pretty awesome service. Take some time and check it out. Try this Google cache if you can't get the first link to work.
"Thinklink.org is an open database where makers can register their work for free and create labels for their products. Crafters, artists, designers, producers, and other makers can use Thinglink to identify their products and document their work. We built Thinglink for makers, because we think everyone is a maker. We hope it will make the social networks around products visible and navigable."

Large Marble
Jun. 16th, 2006 02:26 amI know there are a lot of memory posts about using marbles, especially the flat ones, for things like magnets and jewelry and such. Well, this is kind of different... I have one large marble, about 2 or 3 times the size of a normal marble, and not flat. It's sort of green and swirly in colors and for some reason I just looked at it and wanted to do something with it to give to my boyfriend. But what would you do with one really big marble (besides jewelry, since he doesn't wear that)? I think it's special and I don't want to use it with any other marbles but it seems like a lost cause. Any ideas? Thanks :]

polyester/wool blends! do they need pre-shrinking?
i never EVER use polyester, therefore i can never remember if blends still need to be washed before sewing.

skirt help please?
Jun. 16th, 2006 09:30 amI cut the pieces out like this: (see top white illustration)

and then eventually realized how messed up the hem was. I've looked around and figured out that it ought to be more like the bottom, dark illustration. I took out what hemming there was, and tried to fold it up to something reasonably even, but it's very wobbly and I feel lost. Am I making this harder than it needs to be? Is there something I'm still missing?

Jun. 16th, 2006 10:17 amI don't know if anyone else can find it, but on MARTHA today she's going to be doing T-Shirt surgeries.
Except its 10:17 where I am and its already started, so if you catch this in time I guess you can catch the show.
It's on "ABC" but I don't know what channel that is for anyone?

Jun. 16th, 2006 11:03 amDoes anyone know where to buy spikes to add to clothing and accessories? I can't even think of how to phrase it to look on eBay or anything. (I know, I'm a dork.) Thanks in advance!
Crossposted, so you may see this more than once. My apologies.

Jun. 16th, 2006 11:46 amQUESTION:
I have an average, run-of-the-mill Nalgene-type bottle. Problem is that it leaks. All over the place. It accidentally fell over last night when I was sleeping and now the carpet in my room is soaked. I don't want to throw it away, so I want to find something crafty to do with it. Got any ideas for me?

I have an ODD question

I have a great idea for a photo shoot, and I need my hair to be silver.
I'm weird - I know! LoL
Thanks!

Okay. For my english class, I'm doing an "I-search" paper on how I'm planning on opening my own business. I have to interview an expert. I know many of you guys have your own businesses, so I was hoping for a volunteer. Help would be much appreciated. I don't have my questions prepared yet, but I should soon.
If any of you guys are curious, I'm going to open an online store where I sell jewelry, handmade stuff like bath bombs, soap, etc., cosplay items, all stuff that I make. Also, my husband and I are planning on opening an actual store in a building in a couple years, with a bakery/restaurant, a LAN center, and a cosplay/stuff from Japan shop. The employees will have cute cosplay or lolita-esque generic uniforms, and can choose to cosplay as well. We even have a bank that's interested in giving us a loan and wants us to write a business proposal.

Making holes in brass charms
Jun. 16th, 2006 04:22 pmI checked the memories but could only find a how-to on making holes in plastic dice. I recently bought some brass charms but discovered they didn't come with any holes to hook to ear wires.
Could anyone suggest a way to make a hole in the charms. They're made out of brass, and a li'l delicate - so ideally I wouldn't want to drill them (unless the drill tool won't damage them - i've never tried drilling so am not sure how this works). If I should use a dremel tool, which one should I get?
Would a hot needle work on brass with adequate pressure/time?
Thanks!

Knitting World Cup in the UK!
Jun. 16th, 2006 06:17 pmYou may (or may not) have noticed the button in my userinfo about the Knitting World Cup. Despite my disastrous attempt at the Crochet Olympics I am actually doing well with the Knitting World Cup and have pictorial evidence of my work so far!
Bear in mind that I am not fantastic at knitting; crochet and spining being my thing! This is my first ever attempt at Intarsia knitting and I found this rather challenging. I have almost completed the front with the intarsia bit on it. It is going to be a jumper for Ollie for the winter and I am really pleased with it so far!
What do you reckon?

It is a Rooster by the way! Just in case you can't tell!

Softening of cotton crochet project
Jun. 16th, 2006 11:20 pmI am just about to finish a crocheted capelet. I used the following pattern:
Chanson en Crochet - http://www.interweave.com/knit/books/Wrap_Style/chanson_crochet.asp
(I added a few tweaks to make it "better.")
Question: I used Peaches & Cream cotton yarn and the finished item is kind of stiff. I am wondering what your opinions are on soaking this item in fabric softener, putting it through the rinse cycle of the washing machine, and then into the dryer for some fluffing and, hopefully, softening. Then steaming it with the iron to try and block it a bit.
Whaddya think? Will that work or ruin it? What do you suggest?
