First off i would like to thank [livejournal.com profile] mvmarcz,[livejournal.com profile] _fortress, [livejournal.com profile] andi_infocus, [livejournal.com profile] suntostars, and [livejournal.com profile] snooseanne for their help when i asked about painting on metal. I actually didn't end up going with any of your advice though...because i couldn't find a tin that was suitable for my project. So instead i used a box.....

There was a website posted a long, long, long ass time ago that some people were using to make backgrounds or cards, etc. It's a free online thing where you would like... make graphics. Sort of. Like, there were a bunch of different buttons you could press and each one would produce different "stamps" of things, like off-beat designs and lettering and stuff. There was like a square on the page that started off white nd you could stamp all of these things into it to make something cool looking. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or know where something similar is online? I am in desperate need of this thing and I don't even know where to start looking! I wish I could give a better description...

I've been working with Castin Craft clear resin and have learned lots through trial and error. There is some info in the memories, but not quite answering all my questions. I've been playing with the rations of resin to catalyst, and drying times, and yet my finished products still have a tacky feel. Any ideas what I can do, or what I've been doing wrong? I was thinking of using my dremel and cotton polishing wheel to buff it out a bit, and see if that helps. I also see the aerosol "finishing spray" online. Anyone use that? Think it may help?
As soon as I get all the kinks out I'll make a more exciting post.

i just made my halloween costume! )

edit: this is apparently a magic picture...half the people can see it and half cant. i can see it just fine, along with a few others, but my mom and my roommate cant see it on their comps.

if you cant see it because its too dark, turn up the contrast on your computer. if that doesnt help then...im not sure whats going on

sorry :/

I bought some felt squares from Jo-Ann's and Wal-Mart the other day and I'm not sure about the durability and washability of said squares. I was hoping to use them for accents on various projects or on smaller projects (pins, cozies, etc).

Does anyone who has used this kind of felt have any advice?

I have a box of plaster of paris, and I'm itching to do something crafty and fun with it. I've checked the memories, but the links included in that entry are out of date.

I've googled until I am cross-eyed, and all I keep finding are silly "pour the PofP into candy molds and paint!" type ideas.

Can anyone give me ideas or links of other things I can do with this stuff?

For all of those people interested in this recent ReadyMade thing, I have an article that might provide hope/clarity/enlightenment as to possible motives for doing so, which (I hope) at least might assuage fears that it's going to disappear from the shelves altogether. Cuz, you know, irregular and casual as they may be, I love that magazine to pieces.

Meredith Buys ReadyMade.

The article's super-recent, so...

Maybe the offer is sort of a thank-you to all of the people who were with Shoshana and Grace before this happened?

i'm doing special orders at my first craft fair tomorrow and friday. i am really nervous because i don't really have much ready to sell, so instead i will just have people fill out a special order form and do that instead. have any of you ever tried this approach? i am really scared it will totally flop and i will be out $100. i'd appreciate any advice from you all who have participated in craft fairs before one what works, what i need, etc.
thanks so much! this is a great community!!!!

Hi everyone,
so I've never used a serger so I'm a tad scared about buying one without getting reccomendations. I'm wondering for a super beginner, which serger machine would you recommend that is easy to thread but will also be reliable and give me options when I become better? Also, not to pricy (as I'm broke now).

A while ago, I posted asking for help with a claymation project. Can't find the entry to link back to... sorry! I haven't finished putting the kids' ones together yet (or more accurately, I haven't taken their names off them yet :) ), but I did finish mine.

so i just bought a sewing machine a few days ago.
nothing too fancy or expensive, i didn't have a lot of money to spend.
but i'm seriously about to tear my hair out over this thing. it worked perfectly when i was messing around with it, getting to know the different stiches, but as soon as i started a project it started messing up.
every couple of stitches the whole thing gets jammed up, the underside of the stitching looks gross and is a big mess of thread. once the needle goes down, it won't come back up and the thread underneath is getting all caught up on something.
i know it's probably a really common problem or i'm doing a little thing wrong, but the instruction manual doesn't tell me what i'm doing wrong as it's about 2 pages long.
so could someone please help me before i freak out and kick this damn thing down the stairs.

[sorry about text only...i'll have pictures as soon as i can figure out this problem]
thanks in advance.
<3

thanks so much for all the help/responses you guys gave me. i think i've fixed the problem for now but we'll see how it goes. technology and i aren't exactly best friends =)
