i have not posted for a lonnnng time!

A lady last year bought a bag from me. She e-mailed me a few months ago, wanting me to make her another bag. she told me what kind of fabric style she wanted, so, i searched for various fabrics and this is the one that she chose. since it was before my wedding, i told her i wouldn't get it to her until after.

i even made her a matching wallet.

Why plant a tree when you can make one? )
My fingers hurt like crazy... and the huge bead on there is supposed to be a hanging lantern =)

Okay. So, 7pm on Halloween night and I still had no costume. What's a girl to do?

One fabulous paper hat, an appropriate jacket, and a magnifying glass later... )

But yeah, I just threw together a deerstalker hat out of some brown paper I had lying around. Googled a reference image, stared down a charming but non-Holmesy pink hat for a bit of inspiration, and had at it. The inside is a bit of a taped and stapled mess, but it worked and held up well enough for me to roam around town with the rest of the freaks. Good times.

gosh i haven't posted in forever...i am so busy with school!
oh well, i HAD to take the time to come and post myself and my bf's halloween costumes this year
i made them from scratch (ok, except the shoes)..the apron, pants, dress, hat, mask, helmet, sword, and flayed human (which is actually a velcro pouch for wallets/keys) all made and stained by me (sorry - the boy bloodied the bag because i didn't have time. and had a jolly time doing it too from the looks of my bathtub afterwards ^___^ )

so then.. can you hear the siren? )

I made the skirt and all of the accessories, I had a premade top (Value Village) & Jacket (part of my work wardrobe). The skirt was originally a Bridesmaid dress and I added big panels and cut it short. Added a tulle overskirt and sewed spiders on it. On the back is a HUGE bow....no pictures of that. I added spiders to the argyle socks and to the bow in my hair. I made a choker out of wide ribbon that matched the dress and and added a bow to that one as well!

My new obsession this season is beaded ornaments. I started with netted ornaments like these as gifts for our families last year.

Anyway, here's what I started with this year, more of the simple netted designs: (you can click the picture for a larger image)

Ornament #1:

More ornaments back here! )

Yes...the obsession is full blown now. I bought a bunch of beads while they were on sale a Joann's and I've been busy busy ever since!

I have changed up the netted design a little and learned how to make some different snowflakes too!

Sorry the pictures aren't too great. My camera's being goofy, and the beads are a bit difficult to photograph.

More styles (and snowflakes!) back here: )

ETA: Does anyone happen to know of a source for bulk seed beads? All I've found are expensive ones for jewelry. I'm really just looking for cheap-o glass ones. Thanks!

another costume post. sorry, but it made me excited. I dressed up as the yellow brick road.

I made my emerald city tiara, and dyed the shirt and tights yellow. the shoes I had and were the basis for the costume because lets face it I don't get many chances to wear yellow heels. The skirt just had "bricks" of yellow felt pinned to it. :)

we're off to see the wizard.... )

I thought I looked pretty good for something thrown together in a matter of minutes. I did make those dread falls myself so that counts as the craft, but what I really want to show you is our candy booty on my Flickr.

I hope everyone had a great Halloween! I saw lots of great costumes on here :)

I've had a few requests on this and other communities for a tutorial on the LEGO costume.

Yesterday I was out shopping and saw all the halloween stuff at a ridiculous percent off, including all the hoakey head-gear. My friend has been looking for dragon horns, but having no luck, so I bought up a bunch of devil horns for .75 each, and then went next door to the fabric store for .20 sheets of felt (and a remnant of silver fabric). Came home, traced around the horn on newspaper and adjusted to make it a bit bigger for a dragon, and....

I'll make this short and sweet. This is just a really simple craft that my mother and I made. We took clear plates and modge-podged halloween fabric onto the backs of them.
Pictures behind cut )
Then i baked spice mini-cupcakes and iced them with cream cheese icing and the papers were halloween as well with baby frankenstines and jack-o-latterns on them. I took the plate of cupcakes to one of our friends from church.
We plan to try and find more clear plates and make some plates for each holiday. i have such cute x-mas fabric that would be just perfect.

I was thinking of creating patterns of clothing I've designed and attempting to sell them on-line. Is this something that you think you might buy? They would probably come out less expensive than commercial patterns. My goal is to come up with designs that are too difficult to just wing and more appealing to the younger sewers, since it's so hard to find good ones. Do you know of anyone else who is doing this sort of thing? I would love for your input as crafters!

alright crafty ladies, i need your help. i go to college and i am the "recycling coordinator" for my dorm hall. basically, i am in charge of this little room where everyone brings their recycleables. there are little bins and signs above them saying the following things: paper/cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminum metal. i need to make these signs over again so that they're creative and they can be used for years to come. i want them to grab everyone's attention, but i am sort of stuck for ideas. ideally, i'd like this to be on paper or cardboard of some sort that can be laminated, but i'm up for ideas.

can you ladies help me think of creative ways to make these signs? right now, it's a piece of white paper wiht a glass bottle and "glass" written on them. i was thinking that maybe i could make the signs in the shape of what needs to be recycled, like a huge glass bottle with "GLASS" written on it or possibly decoupaging [sp?] "glass" wiht letters from magazines and things [you know, because the letters would be recycled].

thank you so much!

What's the number one way to tell how big a geek your adorable boyfriend is?

When you agree to make him a Halloween costume completely from scratch, and he chooses...
