Another Halloween Costume - Chun Li!
Nov. 2nd, 2006 03:43 amI'm really shy about posting but I just wanted to share my costume with you all!
I was Chun Li from the video game Street Fighter!

LOL, I'm obviously not as well endowed as her.
Everything is made from scratch. Blue and gold satin, yellow bias tape, and white lycra. Only the spiky bracelets were bought.
I didn't get a chance to finish all the gold accent details, but it achieved the overall effect and I got recognized a lot!

Chef pants & speedball inks
Nov. 2nd, 2006 11:41 amMy goal is to make chef pants with a skull & crossbones print on them. Unfortunately, I do not have a sewing machine. I would just buy them if I could find them, but alas! So, do you think it would work to stencil the design onto pre-made chef pants (either 100% cotton or a poly-cotton blend) using speedball screenprinting ink?
I've stenciled with speedball ink before but only on a tshirt, which does not take nearly the abuse that chef pants do. I've also only done black on light fabric (project photo below!), where as these pants would be white ink on black fabric. Anyone have any experience or suggestions on this? Do you think the ink could handle having hot grease spilled on it and being washed and dried constantly? If it seems like an ok idea, then does it matter if it's pure cotton or cotton-poly?
Thank you for your help!

Keeping It Cosy
Nov. 2nd, 2006 12:14 pmWhee! I made something! Just a quick wee project I started on tuesday evening and finished last night. Based on
catmorley's pattern found here and adapted for my bigger Ipod. I made a wee strap for it too so I can carry it around with me when I've got no pockets. I'm thinking about adding a couple of press-studs to it to make it more secure (the pod's just sticking out for illustration purposes, the cosy comes up over the top of it). I took it to class today cos I'd been knitting it in the studio on wednesday and now a couple of my classmates want them too, so that's xmas pressies for them sorted! :D

Freddy Krueger (x-posted)
Nov. 2nd, 2006 04:10 pmI started out with a cloth version of the Freddy sweater from a Halloween store. Cut it in two, sewed it to fit my body (especially the sleeves). I turned the shirt around so the back could be used as a neckline. Then I used a cheap Freddy foam mask to make my brow piece and glued that on and painted it to match my face.

Nov. 2nd, 2006 04:18 pmHi Craftgrrls!
I haven't posted in ages, but I thought this would be a really fun opportunity to do so!
I made Halloween costumes for myself and my Chihuahua mix puppy.
( Text details of the costumes )
Skip ahead to this part of the post if you want to cut to the chase and soak up the cuteness:
( Dolly the genetically engineered lamb + Jackhuahua superman )
That's it!
Enjoy!

More great last minute costumes...
Nov. 2nd, 2006 06:37 pmMy nieces couldn't make up their minds until the night before Halloween so it was up to their crafty aunt (tita) to make their costumes:
could this

from target for $3.77 turn into this?:

Amigurumi & Amiguru-minis!
Nov. 2nd, 2006 06:47 pmAfter I was given some lovely yarns (which I was planning on using for scarves or doll hair), I had to try making some of those cute crochet creatures.
( Bernard, the chilly monster )
Then, going on the priciple that smaller=cuter, I made up some tiny animals, using embroidery floss/thread instead of yarn. I'm calling them amiguru-minis!
( Stella the bunny )
( Oliver the cat )
So ~ how is crochet with the thread? It was really hard at first, because you have no where to hold onto your work. The second one was easier to work on... either way I thought the result was definently worth the effort. (But then again, I like working in miniature, so it might not be for everyone!)

Let's try this again
Nov. 2nd, 2006 09:46 pmA couple days ago I announced the new craft-wiki I had started - Craftacular
I decided that I really disliked the software I had and decided it would be better to change it now than once the pages have been populated. Now it is running off MediaWiki, the same software that Wikipedia runs on.
I hope now it will be less confusing for users. I know it's already a million times less confusing from an administration point of view! :)
Sorry to those that had already created logins! I promise I won't change the software again. And if you haven't seen it yet, check it out! ...and write an article or two, if you can.

Wax off clothes?
Nov. 2nd, 2006 10:44 pmThis isn't exactly crafty, but I thought crafty folk might know the answer to this:
What is the best way to get wax off clothes?
Someone accidentally jostled a candle I was holding and it spilled wax all over my nice black shirt.
I tried just peeling it off but it is leaving white residue.
Anyone know the best way to go about cleaning the shirt?
Thanks! :)
