I said I'd post how to make those treble clefs with a paper clip (the ones i made in the earrings I posted here are a bit rounder and more shapely than the one under the cut because I used a shorter length of 20 gauge craft wire, which has more resistance than plastic-covered clips).

Without further ado:

I've been hearing on some of my other crafting lists that Walmart is planning on dropping fabric sections by next spring. One person who said it is even a Walmart employee.

I, myself, do not shop at Walmart(since I don't agree with some their business practices)... but I know some of you do. This is particularly sad for the communities where Walmart put fabric stores out of business.

People are talking boycotts, phone calls, and online feedback... so if you DO buy fabric at Walmart... you might want to start contacting them

I don't think this has been posted yet... but I apolgize if I missed it and it has...

I have a desk, which I imagine is pressureboard covered in that stuff that makes it appear to be real wood. I picked it up at a Salvation Army store for like 5 bucks, so it's not exactly the cutest thing in my room; but I want to dress it up a bit.

My idea is to cover it in a base coat of paint, and then use acryllics or something to paint an underwater scene, and then cover it with a protective coat.

1) What should I do to prepare the fake wood for painting?
2) What should I use to cover the finished project?

I had an entire ball of leftover yarn from making a scarf for someone and decided to make a hat for the friend that lent me supplies for the scarf as a thank-you/christmas gift. unfortunately i forgot to check the needle size when i found the pattern and i used size 8 needles instead of size 7 (hoping that pulling tightly on the yarn would cover for it). hence, the finished hat is now GINORMOUS. i.e. it comes down over my eyes almost to the middle of my nose bridge. my friend is taller than me, but i doubt her head is that much bigger than mine... i can roll up the brim, but the crown is still too large.

is this a sad case in which i should just rip the yarn out and start a different project? or can i shrink it in the washer? (the yarn is 100% acrylic with a couple of cotten blend stripes in it).

:( i spent two days on the hat!

Alright, I have two questions for you helpful crafters:
1) Does anyone know where I can find thick paper that I can sew on?
2) Does anyone know where I can find black and white houndstooth fabric?

more info + example pictures.. )

I wanted to stencil a Tshirt for my dad, it will be my first stenciling project. I have pictures I want to use, but I don't think they will work, because basically they are just lines

Does anyone know where I can find more info (how to make) on these little dolls.

I saw them on an ad for HGTV, but after searching the entire site and asking on their message board I can't seem to find anything about them. They look pretty simple, and I can probably figure it out on my own...but some instruction or patterns would really help. Or if you know of something similar please let me know. Thanks!

GAHHHHHH! I'm so frustrated. I got a ceramic white piggy bank from Hobby Lobby the other day so that I can paint it for my little cousin for Christmas. I bought acrylic craft paint to use on it, because I figured that it would work just fine. WRONG! It didn't cover well, and because of the glossy finish on it, the paint peeled itself off all rubber-like when I tried putting a second coat on. So I just washed it off and figured that maybe sanding off the glossy-ness would make the paint stick. Wrong again, it's still doing just what it did before.
What kind of paint should i be using? Spraypaint?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is an easy gift idea for the holiday season that if you have the materials on hand it is pretty cheap to make! Sorry the picture is really fuzzy it's from my phone...

What you need for the jar:
1 Quart Canning Jar with lid
Print out of directions
Something to dress up the lid with (I just used coffee filters that I tinted with watercolors and let dry!)

What you need for the mix:
2 1/4 cups sugar
2/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup chopped pecans or chocolate chips
1 1/4 cups flour mixed with 1 tsp. baking powder and 1 teaspoon salt

I experimented with the layers on each one, alternating 1 cup of sugar, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, and so on...or you can just layer them as listed, but they look prettier when you do smaller layers :)

For directions to attach to jar:
1. Empty jar of brownie mix into a large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix.

2. Add:
1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine melted
4 eggs, slightly beaten

3.Mix until completely blended.

4. Spread batter into a sprayed 9''x 13'' inch baking pan.

5. Bake at 350deg. F. for 30 minutes. Cool completely in pan. Cut into 2 '' squares. Makes 2 dozen Brownies

I just used microsoft word and added a border, cut out, and glued to card stock paper, tied it on with a ribbon over top to the coffee filter, and tada! Easy brownie mix for someone who loves to bake, but doesn't have the time to make from scratch... It's a nice gift for co-workers or teachers when you want to go a step beyond a card and don't have much cash to spend!

By the way, this was something that's on a google search, I can't take the credit for it myself-but this is how mine turned out-there's lots of other recipes floating around there for cookie mix, soup mix, and pretty much any other baking idea!
