where do you buy fabulous, fun, brightly colored cotton print fabrics online?

i lost my list of sites i frequented when i switched from a desktop computer to my laptop for school. i'm looking for some new and exciting fabrics to add to my collection.

the places i love (and remembered the addresses for): jcaroline creative and reprodepot.

help me add to my list!

thanks.
<3 jenny.

p.s. - i promise i'll make a post sometime in the next few days. i've been home on break for a month. i get bored. i make stuff. and lots of it.

This is the first project I've completed in awhile that's been worth sharing: a variation on the "In Bloom" bag from Happy Hooker done in an avocado acrylic yarn, lined with some really great flower print fabric and embellished with a polka-dot ribbon. I'm contemplating making some sort of flower (fabric or crochet) or a crochet medallion of some sort to put over the knot, but I kind of like the simplicity of it now. Perhaps I'll make it a pin that I can take on and off?

A finished product!

My cat did her best to help in this endevor, which mainly involved batting and biting at my crochet hook, fiddling with my yarn, and trying to eat the thread I was using to sew the lining! Thankfully she's too cute to be mad at!

Hi everyone. I had a question about a gift I want to make for a friend. I searched the memories but did not find anything there.

So I want to make my friend a ballet skirt, but I have not been able to find any patterns or anything online, so if anyone has any suggestions, will you please let me know. Its also ok to suggest other ballet related gifts I can make, since she is really into it.

Thank you in advance.

Okay, so I finally finished setting up my new sewing machine, and then spent nearly 45 minutes trying to thread the darn thing, but it's working now! And I made a purse, my first purse, using some pretty silky material that I got at walmart, the rest of the brown corduroy from making my daughters pants, and some green that I had in my stash. I still need to make a closure of some kind, but I don't currently have anything suitable in the house for that.

So, without further ado, here are the pictures : )

I'm not sure how relevant this question is for this community, so if it's out of place, just let me know and I'll delete it.

I'm looking for a place (either online, or in Northern California) that sells top-of-the-line silk fabric. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

the backstory )

I'm thinking of going with some form of silk--something that's very strong and doesn't snag easily (so no silk chiffon), but has a soft drape (no silk faille either) and a touch of lustre. Any suggestions (both/either on the website/store, or the type of silk that I should look into)? Also, roughly how much fabric will I need? We're looking at a halter neck, open-back, A-line dress, double-layered. It will probably sweep the ground, but cut in a way that she can have it hemmed afterwards at the knee (so how often DO you wear a floor-length dress anyway?) She's about 5'4 and less then 100 lbs. I really appreciate the help!

Tychus

I have made so many of these hats now, I could probably make one in my sleep:P It's the Tychus pattern from Knitty and once you start making them, everyone begs you for one...

The orange one is modelled by yours personally, but made for my older sister. I'm so glad to be done with it, the orange yarn had a disgusting hand-like knitting with cat hair >.<

The teeny one modelled by my hand is for the boy's godson. I'm not sure if it's going to fit, I just took a wing at modifying the original pattern to shrink it down to babylet size:P

Any advice for shrinking patterns to fit kidlings?

i've been trying to find something to use my leftover scraps of fabric and yarn for, and i think i've found it.

The Snuggles Project is a charity organization that accepts donations of patchwork, knitted, and/or crocheted blankets to dontate to shelters for homeless animals. their site contains patterns and suggestions for making blankets and toys, as well as a full list of shelters world-wide that are part of the project and accept donations. i'm in touch with one here in Montreal and will be donating a number of ghetto-looking but warm blankets and our cats will be donating a bag of their cat food to those less fortunate ;)

anyway... i'm not affiliated with the organization or anything, just came across it and thought it was a worthwhile project and thought i'd share :) happy crafting!

longtime lurker, finally posting again :-)

Here are some rings I made for Handmade Arcade (awesome craft show) last fall.

i got asked to be a vendor at a craft show on march 31st. the lady organizing it asked me cause i had been a vendor in a previous show she put on.
usually, i knit scarves, make hemp bracelets and necklaces, and make earrings.
i sold mostly scarves. very few of the other things.
now, come the end of march, its not really scarf season anymore.
i would LOVE to go to the craft show again, but i dont want to pay to have the table, and sell pretty much nothing.
what on EARTH could i make?
right now, i have a ton of yarn (check out [profile] noyarnforayear to see what im talking about), felt, hemp, beads, fimo/sculpey and a few other random bits...
help?

SOOOOOY

my friends and I were being really silly one day and started jabbering about soy products.

Where do soy milk come from?
From soy cows of course!
(and then everyone went nuts...) Soy cows are huge floating cows. They don't have any legs, they just float up in the air and go "SOOOOOOOY." Later on we said that soy cows grow on trees, but instead of falling to the ground they float away. Farmers have to tether their soy cows down or else they'll all float away.
