I wanted to show off some new pendants and rings I've made.

more behind the cut )

Gawd, resin is addictive.

I just built a makeshift light box and I'm pretty happy with how much better my photos are coming out. Still not perfect, but a lot better than they used to be. I found tons of directions online, but I just did a simple one out of a cardboard box and tracing paper. Only took about 15 minutes, too!

I'm so excited about these... I've been drooling over those Flapper buttons ever since I saw them but seeing as my dog just broke her elbow and needs orthopedic surgery, it's going to be a while before I can get them. I do have a button maker (I have four, but I used my 1" for this), though, so I made my own! Well, pins instead of the kind of buttons you buy at Joanne's, but you know what I mean, I hope.

I was inspired by the flapper shirt buttons but also by a couple of photos of vintage handmade flapper face pins I came across.

All 4 buttons )
My sister and I made 4. The sequins is under the mylar layer, but the little bump in the middle is these teeeny tiny rhinestones my sister had in her "Sparkle Stash" of loose rhinestones.

Here's a shot of the back so you know what kind of button I'm talking about. :)

Edited: Mixed the pictures up. Whoops.

ETA again: Yes, I drew the girl images on my computer using PSP7. :)

I'm looking to make bracelets that are similar to macrame.

The fourth bracelet from the left- that one! I attempted to make one the other day and kept messing it up. All I remember is that you "make a four" with the first string and the second, make a knot, pull, make a knot, pull and then move on to the third string with the first string. Anyone have any other patterns/ideas/a better way of doing it?

Thanks!

Theres a new forum dedicated to crafters and DIY'ers alike. We came up with this so we could trade ideas and meet up twice a month at our house for craft nights. There will be specific projects for these nights and they wil be posted on the forum when they come up. we are looking for new members to join up and hopefully make some new friends. we hope to even have a webcast on the nights we hold these meet ups for those that are unable to be there. We are located in Nor Cal and are looking forward to meeting some local crafters

hope to see some new folks there, sign up and have fun

I checked the memories, but couldn't quite find what I wanted. Does anybody have any resources for cool punk, goth, rockabilly, or any other rockin' patterns for either embroidery or cross stitch (I do both ...)? All I can seem to find are kits, and I'm not about to shell out a kabillion dollars for stuff I already have just for three tiny little patterns. Free patterns would be awesome, but I'm willing to pay up for some super-awesome patterns.

Thanks a bunch.

Hello everyone. I'm new to craftgrrl, but I'm definately not new to crafting.

My main craft is crocheting, but I also tamper in soap-making, sewing and a few other misc. things.

Now onto a few of my latest completed projects...

Evelyn's Sewing Centre in Newmarket, Ontario is having another sewing machine sale!  I just got my sewing machine and serger back from their tech shop (scheduled maintenance, and WOW, I didn't realize how much they needed it!), and saw the markdowns.

They've got a $10,000 embroidery machine marked down to $8,000, and some GOOD entry-level models at $399 (down from $699 -- this was the price range for my Janome when I bought it 7 or 8 years ago, and I got it in a sale like this, too).  Then I saw the ad in the local paper, and realized just how many machines are on sale.  Brand names include Husqvarna, Brother, Bernina, and Janome.  Sale lasts through this week, I think.  If you're in the market for a new machine, and you're in the Greater Toronto Area, you may want to take a look here.  Even if you have to drive a couple of hours to get here.

I recall reading a few messages a while back here and in [profile] sew_hip and [profile] advanced_sewing about people asking about different models.   Just thought I'd mention it.  Not sure if Evelyn's takes trade-ins anymore (she credited my account with $100 for my broken-down old Singer, including table), as the store has a new owner, but you might want to ask.

AND... there's *some* excellent quality quilting cotton marked down 40%.  But you have to beat me to it.

Just thought I'd share the good fortune.

So I finally decided to have my go at sewing vinyl. I made myself a vinyl bat wallet.
I'm pretty pleased with it, but I haven't decided on a face for him yet. so right now he just has a typical sharpie marker face. :/
I used a snap closure but I'm slightly afraid it might eventually rip the vinyl. If I have a problem I'm going to just sew an elastic loop into it that would wrap around the wallet to keep it closed.

I meant to post pictures of the stuff I made my family for Christmas back around when it WAS Christmas, but I got distracted. As a result, I have pictures of even MORE stuff to post pictures of, since I've made a whole bunch of new stuff since then.

lots of pics (warning: I mean a lot...) )
