This is my first semester taking an art class (FINALLY). I'm actually studying to become a mechanical engineer and taking an art class is my fun stress relief... with credit :D

Our first project was to make a non-representational self portait (can't carve a statue of yourself) out of wood. I chose to base mine off of the story of Rumplestitskin. The scene i chose was when she was faced with an impossible task (straw into gold) and a little magic man comes to her rescue and does the impossible. I'm starting to feel bogged down and very insecure about by my classes and I wonder how I can even get through these courses. I use homework into straw and the gold represnts the good grades that I sometimes magically obtain. I have no magic man with a hard name to spell so there is no connection between the gold tread and the wheel.

By the way, the shirt is a reconstruction! (i'll post pictures of that later.)

Here is a link to the rest of the art projects in my class

Today was our Engineering Day where everyone shows off fun things to show the kids.
My friend and I played with fire :D  <-- crafty? not really, but I can delete it if you want.

One of the best friend of mine is an haberdasher.

I love this community. I first found it about a year or so ago (I think). I knew I always wanted to craft, but the thing is I just kept all my ideas on the backburner for a while, since I was still obsessing over computers, graphic and web design. But then around October last year, I started buying paints and stuff, thinking that I'd make myself something from salt dough (I can just not find polymer clay or sculpey around this place, and I can't buy online cause of my parents). I ended up trying and making three pendants, but then I pushed the idea aside. Then I asked about our old sewing machine (which only had a straight stitch) and found out that mom got it fixed. I tried it out and made a hoodie with the help of a tutorial, then it started from there. Haha, I drafted patterns myself, made dresses and bags, etc, and my aunt lent me her sewing machine. So now I'm happy. But it's got nothing to do with what I'm posting now haha.

I've been crafty a lot in the past, but this is what I did lately--actually this weekend.

I painted my shoes. I got them during a field trip of sorts for about P250 [That's Philippine Peso, I'm from the Philippines. In dollar that'd be around...$5]. The only thing about them that annoyed me was that they didn't fit me perfectly...oh, and they had these garter things crisscrossing for the straps and they killed my feet. So I cut them off and painted them, to make them cool. :D I got the idea from craftster.

Here's a quilt I made for a friend's baby. He thinks it's lovely.

Quilt Tutorial is here. It's not the best written one in the world, but you should get the idea.

hi, long-time lurker, first-time poster.

i recently got some stuff out of storage that had been in a flood. much of it was totally ruined, but all replacable things, amazingly. the irreplacable things, such as this afghan, survived. my great-grammy henrietta made it for my mom back in the 60s, and a few years ago my mom passed it onto me.

i was hoping the crafty people here might be able to give me a clue about what sort of stitch she used. i am a beginning knitter/crocheter and i can only do the most basic things. my grammy was a master, and i would really like to be able to duplicate the stitch in this afghan. it has lasted many, many years and gone through a lot of wear and tear, and is still in amazing condition. i'm sure it will still be around when my kids are old enough to have heirlooms passed to them.

i took some pictures of it with my camera-phone. i hope they're detailed enough to give you an idea of what the stripes and edging look like.

thanks in advance!

I saw this fabric posted in the community (I searched back 300 posts and didn't see it, but thank you to whomever posted it first!) and fell in love.  It's "Inked" by Alexander Henry.  My fabric store, Joann's, got it in yesterday, and it is already sold out :(  but I snagged 3 yards while I was there.  Anyhoo!  I had insomnia last night and sewed this from 11:30pm-4:00am.  Time well spent IMO

So, I'm a young kid working part time, minimum wage, and my boyfriend and I are starting to save up for a car/apartment once summer is over. I figured, hey, since I have some money NOW, I should start collecting htings I need for an appartment, so that I'm not spending a bunch of money all at once.
I have a toaster (THANKS MOM! :D), a sewing machine, a book case, a TV, 2 computers 2 laptops and a desk (between both of us), a bed, etc. You know, stuff that I already have in my room and whatnot.
What I'd like help with iss, what would you suggest that I could MAKE for our new home? I have till around Septemer to work on stuff so it doesn't have to be exactly SIMPLE, buut I'm not to knowledgable about alot of crafts.
I have the very basics of knitting, very basics of crocheting, I can sew exceptionally well, I've made soaps, candles, candies, lip balm, etc.
I donno, I just don't know exactly what I would need that I can MAKE MYSELF, and thats what I'm looking for suggests on. Blankets? Kitchen stuff? Bathroom stuff? Link to tuturials would be amazing, and if this isn't allowed then totally delete this. :)

Hi all,

I started an afghan for my husband a year or two ago, and I'm ready to start working on it again. But I've lost the pattern!

It's one I found online, the afghan is a shell pattern and the original pattern's picture had it done up in black with many brights; hot pink, yellow, blue etc. If I remember right, the afghan was thrown over a chair, there may have even been a guitar in the picture.

The name of the pattern was made up to believe this particular pattern was pizzaz-ier then any other, I THINK heh. Can anyone help?

EDIT: The color/shell pattern was laid out in such a way that the rows made "waves" of color, a back and forth sort of movement....

i have an amazing idea.. but im not 100% sure that it will work. I'd like to be able to try it out tomorrow, since i'll have a bunch of free time.

so anyway, my question is--- will glass etching cream (such as armour etch) work on glazed ceramics?

Hello! This past week we my college winter break and I spent several days doing nothing but crafts.

The following cut hides flower bobby pins, pictures of cozies and my felt wrestling ragdoll KANE. Consider yourself tempted AND warned.

I searched google and didn't find anything I liked. Does anyone have a tutorial or pic for some inspiration for a camera strap? I want one that has two hooks because my camera is heavy and wouldn't be well supported by one. If nobody has anything I can make myself, a link to somebody who sells them would work. Thanks!
