See a really cute owl pillow here. )

EDIT: Wow! Thank you, everyone, for all the wonderful, kind words! You guys really made my day. Craftster.org got blocked from my work's internet today. LJ had been blocked from the get-go, so getting to read all your replies in my email kept a smile on my face even though I was suffering from craft-blog withdrawals.

Since I didn't have craftster to keep me occupied, I made a tutorial for this project.Read more... )

6 hours and several tooth aches later, I finished my facinator. I found the yellow in my fabric collection today and I'm currently having to do a project on the work placement I did with a milliner last month. My theme is birds, hence the little nests. I've got a huge feather order coming in soon so I can hopefully get some more made that are a bit more..birdy. lol I was really  winging it here, I had a vague plan of what I wanted to do but just messed about to see what I could come up with.

I am taking an altered art class and last week we learned a few different background ideas. One was the peeled paper technique. I cannot remember the whole process and it is killing me. I remembered we painted a solid color and then applied a piece of paper from the phone book...After taht my mind is blank! Can anyone help me out!?

Hey everyone, I looked through the memories but not crazy extensively, so if this is listed back there and I just missed it please let me know!

A friend of mine just got engaged and I wanted to make her a rhinestone shirt that said "the future Mrs. Moffit" but have the "the future" part on like a another piece of matching fabric either sewed on loosely or on velcro, so that it can be removed. I'm wondering if I can get away with glueing on the rhinestones as opposed to buying one of those things that attaches rhinestones, because I don't think she'll actually wear the shirt all that often and she'll probably never end up washing it more than once. Does anyone have any experience with glueing rhinestones on to fabric? Does it look obviously like you've taken a big short cut. If I do have to buy a device to attach them, how much does it cost?

Thanks so much girls!!!

my aunt sent me this link this morning, www.folkwear.com, and i was so excited about it and wanted to share. i've been looking for patterns for tribal bellydance costumes, as well as kimonos and other asian wear, and i just though others might be looking for similar things. it is a store, but its for patterns and not the finished product, and the site offers sewing tips. i'm sorry if this is a community faux-pas, please delete if so. i just thought it might be a good resource for crafty people looking to make some out of the ordinary clothes.

I don't know about anyone else, but I usually have my hair in braids, and the back of my neck gets cold!  So one night I sewed this up out of fleece, a little applique, and some velcro.  I am going to make more, they are so effective!

I ordered a pair of dyeable satin ballet slippers to wear with my wedding dress, only problem is I need to make the white less white, since my dress is slightly creamier than white.  Has anyone ever tea dyed satin before?  Any hints would be lovely!

OKAY so i have this pair of leather-ish(not really leather but leather enough to be called leather) shaq sneakers thatre white but i want to paint them gold.

would i use regular spray paint or is there some sort of fabric spray paint? my mom swears there is but ive never heard it of. probably bc ive never spray painted clothing before. heh.

i figured yall would be the best to come to :|

ALSO: with whatever spray paint i use, putting a glossy finish on it would make it stay a little longer, right?

I've been working really hard on my jewelry lately. Though I've studied many forms of art, and even gotten really into some of them, I feel that jewelry-making is what I'm best at. I also enjoy the fact that it's art you can wear, that when you make jewelry someone is wearing it out in their world, in their life, not just hanging it above their couch.

I've made dozens of things lately; I can't show them all, of course, so here are a couple I'm really proud of:

The "Queen of Hearts" bracelet (yes, I have to name everything)....as many hearts per square inch as possible in one bracelet:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

inspired by an old photograph of my grandmother on my studio wall, and by the fact that it's spring... )

As always, I love to hear feedback...if something sucks, I like to know, and if something is fine but could be much better with a small adjustment, I love knowing that too!

The camera doesn't really capture the colours all that well.
The lines that get close to the clouds aren't solid.
They are speckled but since my camera is a piece of garbage!! you can't tell.
Oh well....you get the idea.
