so... hancok fabrics on semoran in the publix shopping center is going out of business...which may seem sad at first, but everything is 60-90% off. yeah, thats famazing...i know. and if you buy the whole thing of fabric, its an extra 10% off...but theyre only going to be open for like a week more, so if you live in orlando/winter park...check it out before its gone. my fiancee and i got 3 different fabrics; orange plaid flannel, pink racoon printed fannel, and some green roses tee-shirt like fabric. and so we have been up to stuffs...im done for the night, but he's working away on some plaid pants, which i'll probably post when hes done. stuffs made with said fabrics )

alright, this is probably a strange question but...

is it safe to paint bic lighters with nail polish/glue things onto them? obviously glue and nail polish are flammable but my thinking is that the flame wouldn't really come into contact with the actual body of the lighter where the polish or glue would be.

or maybe this is just a really bad idea?

My most comfortable sweatshirt had a logo on it that I hated...so I finally decided what patch I would make to cover it. It's my first try at decorative needle work (though I have some experience sewing)--and it was so much fun! I made it right when I was planning out what to plant in my planters--can you tell?

I had a few extra yards on this really cute pastry fabric laying around... so I decided to make a dress with it.  I was making it to wear for Easter, but the weather has decided to be VERY unspring like.. so hopefully it wont be too cold.  I got a cute red cardigan to wear with it just in case tho!

I used mickncrispy's Shirred tube top tute to make the dress.  It's just a big huge rectangle of fabric (well two big rectangles b/c I added lining).  The pleats in the front are from an oops.. I miscalculated the stretchyness of the elastic and made it too big, so I added darts in the fron to take in the extra fabric.. and this created the pleats.  The belt is from a project on Simplicity's website.

All in all the whole outfit took about 4-5 hours to make (lol stretched over 4 days because I kept procrastinating :P)

Anyhooooo on to the pics! )

Sorry, this will have to be text only.

Ok so I have had a kind of bizarre idea formulating in my head. I want to make some paper lanterns for my apartment. Only the ones that won't hold lights will be made out of super thin lightweight yarn. (Also, will being near the real paper lanterns cause issues with certain kinds of yarn?)

This might actually look like crap, but I am trying to find a crochet or knitting (though preferably crochet since I suck less at that) pattern to make a perfect globe/sphere/what have you.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

i've always loved this lyric. i often find it circling around my head seemingly from nowhere. strangely, i love it far more than the actual song. i've never quite been able to explain why, but the imagery i get from it is so beautiful to me. and i'd always thought i'd like some strange visual representation of it. so...

Last year I made a post about dyeing eggs using natural plant material to achieve colors. Here is a link to my original post about this: Easter Eggs Gone Natural. This year we tried beets to get pink (didn't really work). We also didn't try any secondary colors with one plant item. We chose to dip them in two colors to get the results. We think this was better. I need to work on finding a good natural product to make purple - it's the only rainbow color we really didn't get. We also cleaned our eggs with vinegar before dyeing and that helped prevent some of the blotchiness. Here's a close up of one of the blue eggs (red cabbage):

Come see our rainbow... )
