I made my first ever from-scratch hoodie yesterday! I'm really happy that it turned out well since I just free-handed the pattern.

I've been enjoying cyanotypes again (now that the sun has returned!). I am looking for new, interesting objects to play with but these were made with some old lace doilies that my mom had laying around. I like the way they look sort of Indian to me for some reason. :)

The process is to buy cyanotype chemicals, soak the material, dry, and let them sit in the sun with the objects placed on the material. Fairly easy process, just sorta messy and time consuming. :) I'd like to try a skeleton from a lab if I could ever get my hands on one.

It's worth a try so here it goes...

Does anyone know a tutorial for this pattern/stitch? Or know what it's called/name? [the stitch at the bottom of the scarf - bell like]

I'm usually rather gothy/industrial in my clothing preferences an appearance. However I have a fondness for hiking, gardening, and camping. For these activities, it is generally considered best to wear muted, lighter, earthy tones. As black and blues not only absorb heat, but attract bugs. Also clothing is usually made from synthetics or wool... sometimes hemp and inego (a corn fiber I'm not sure I spelled correctly). Cotton is a no no.

When I wear this kinda stuff I usually feel rather off kilter. It's not my norm and I don't feel very attractive in it. So I'm trying to think of crafty ways to alter these sporty clothes into something I find more aesthetically pleasing.

Will appliques and transfers work on synthetic fabrics?
And does anyone else have any great ideas?

i had posted about the first of these socks a few weeks ago when i was barely past the cuff. i have since finished the pair, and thought you might like to see them:

the pattern is my own (my first self-designed socks!) and i twisted and untwisted the cables as i went along. i had no idea what the socks would look like when i was finished. if you'd like to read my thoughts on these socks and the process of designing them, swing by my knitting blog here: Spillyjane Knits. (for future refence, the post about these socks is here.)

I have an old FirstAct guitar. Yes, the lame Walmart brand--during my very short-lived guitar lessons, though, my teacher said it was surprisingly well-made! Anyway, it's been sitting in my closet for years now and I want to give it to my boyfriend's little sister, who is interested in learning to play. However, I'd like to decorate it. Some cool swirly designs on the body or something. Anyway, how should I go about it without it looking tacky? I was thinking paint would be the most convenient but what about decoupage?
