I am a long time lurker, and unfortunately my first post will be text only.
I have a question and I need your ladies' help with it!
I am going to be working as a summer camp counselor this summer (the same as I was last summer) I primarily teach art classes and am in charge of creating lesson plans yadda yadda yadda. I was wondering if you all had any interesting and exciting ideas. There are always the basic ones we do every year: paper mache, beading, macrame etc.. I was just curious if anyone had any ideas. There are girls there ages 5-16 so it's a broad spectrum. I can create lesson plans for specific age groups which makes it nice so I dont have to find things that all ages can enjoy together because that's tough. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. I've already decided I'm going to do a natural body salt/scrub/lotion class. It should be fun!

Oh yeah. The kids are there for five days and I have to fill up an hour a day approximately. Thank you to anyone who can help!!

Ohmigosh! I finally made something out of a medium besides fleece or felt? Craziness!

They're *are* still "stuffed", though. Curious?

I found it while surfing (instead of working) and I FREAKING LOVE IT.

I know there's a beehive hat in one of the S&B books (S&B Nation? It's the one I DON'T have of course!) .. but I think it looks less.. ridge-ey. And I like the pronounced ridges.

I could not find instructions on the womans blog... I love this hat!!

PS I'm hoping to start up a beehive for next year but my husband is hesitant.. I figured this hat may be a subliminal hint. It worked when I drew a cartoon worm on what later became a box for my worm bin... which he was also 100% against, but eventually caved. ;)

thanks in advance! You guys are great!!!

So yes, I used to have a custom baby quilt business and it's been YEARS since I've done anything with it, I was that burned out. A year or so ago, I simply had to start something, which I did. I layered it ready to be quilted, and then threw it in the box for an upcoming move. I have now retrieved the poor wrinkled thing from it's box, will redo the sandwich and finally, FINALLY finish it.

It will be free motion quilted in hot pink thread, with a checkerboard binding. I'll for sure post pics when it's done. But here it is, wrinkled and distorted (it's actually perfectly square in real life!), the the FIRST QUILT I'VE PIECED IN YEARS!.

I'm one of those weirdos who can't do a kid's quilt without checkerboard fabric, and I can't do anything else without a bit of leopard. I'm weird like that......

So, I was thrifting the other day and I found this gorgeous sheer, off-white cotton tunic top with brown and white crocheted detail at the neckline and sleeves.  It reeked heavily of thrift store, so my mother handwashed it in cold water and Woolite.  The brown dye bled a little while washing, but in the end it rinsed clear.  My mother then laid it flat to dry.  I went to look at it this morning, and it seems the brown has bled through while drying and spattered the back of the shirt with brown spots.  My mother tried a number of ways to wash them out, bleach them out.  Nothing worked, and now the back of the off-white shirt is no longer off-white.  It's got bleached-white spots and big bleached-white streak down the center of the back.

I am very upset by all this.  The top was an amazing find, and only $2 when the brand usually sells for $38-$148 per piece.  Is there any way I can salvage it?

I was thinking of dyeing it, as the entire thing is made of cotton, but I don't know what dye to use, or what color, or anything like that...  I've never dyed anything before except my hair and Easter eggs...

Several of my friends have birthdays this week (my b-day is this week too!) so I made these birthday card boxes using miniature cakes and this template http://www.thetoymaker.com/Toypages/18Fushiabox/18FUSHIABOX.html

I made/drapped this dress on a mannequin by sticking pins in it, and now I really want to actually sew it; because I think it turned out totally cute! How would I go about starting? I like how it's kind of bunched up and such.

Does anyone remember how to make those spiral caterpillars that were used as bookmarks? They were popular back in the 70s, I made them at Guides, but I forget how. I want to make 'medusa' hair for a little doll I'm almost done.

My boyfriend is another country because of work and I'm stuck at home in a new town. In order to do something other than mope around, I've decided to make my daughter a quilt - since I've been wanting to redo her room and had been considering buying a new comforter. I made a quilt once - Trip Around The World and I remember that being insanely easy, though pretty fun. This time I'd like to try someting a bit more challenging and time-consuming just so that it occupies me for awhile and so I feel REALLY proud. I've tried googling free patterns and I'm really not having a lot of luck. I find a lot of free BLOCKS but I have no clue how to figure out yardage and other stuff. I want to make something traditional but with really cool fabric so that from a distance it looks classic and old fashion, but up close, it looks really neat.
I'm looking for suggestions and websites that sell fabric and patterns, or have free patterns, as well as websites that offer good tutorials on different aspects of the process. There are a LOT of websites on quilting out there and it's really overwhelming, so please share your favorites!
Also, if you have any quilts you've made, I would LOVE to see them! I really have no clue what I want to do yet and I feel pretty lost.

I am making a mock up for the support layer of a dress and am having real problems with the fitting round the bust area. I have drawn a crappy diagram for you below!
The pattern is adapted from the contour block in Patternmaking for Fashion Design. It would fit perfectly if i could get the centre front seam to stay in place! Instead of laying flat against my chest it gaps out so the whole thing hangs loose. The red lines on the diagram show how it fits (top down view) and below how it should fit.
Is there something I am missing in how to construct this? Its made from cotton duck (i think? its a heavy cotton fabric) and boned along the seams. There is also some grosgain ribbon sewn along the top edge which sort of helps but not much.
Sorry I have no real photos my camera is killed.
Thanks very much!

Hi, I don't know whether it's suitable to be posted here but heck I'm here to give my question a try.

You guys know bottle caps aye? I want to cut out the insides of the bottle cap and throw away the round edges. So.. do you guys have any ideas what type of puncher I can use and what's its name, etc?

Thanks!

bernice.

i don't know why i never posted this here before.
i made this in sculpture class out of balled up newspaper around a wire frame (for skeletal structure). after i had the shape done i covered it with scraps of fabric dipped into a mache solution. when it was hard and dry i painted her. and of course what good would she be without some lovely accessories.
okay,
enough text )
i love her, if i do say so myself.

I've been procrastinating on making this post most because I'm a little crazy. But here are the craft projects I found pictures of. There's probably more somewhere... Kind of heavy on pictures so have a cut!
