so I thought I would post some older projects because I finally found a program to resize pics (unfortunately said pics are still not fantastic.. any tips about that?).
all of the purses are actually constructed by my mom. I was in charge of fabric selection & design, I suppose. I am learning her ways!

purses & jewelry, naturally )
p.s. if you don't care to view pics, please at least scroll to the bottom of the cut & give me suggestions for the question there!!

I can knit now! Thanks to a column by David Demchuk on not knitting a scarf, and a month on a fish survey, I cast on for the first time, and now I'm hooked.
Project One: a 4x4 rib headband (the kind that holds hair back, not that goes around the forehead)
pic under cut )
I have to recommend this as a first project--it's practical, covers the basics, and you get a Real Finished Item fast, which is encouraging. Plus it hides in your hair, so wobbly stitches aren't conspicuous. I measured my head along the line I wanted it to sit, subtracted 2 inches, and cast on that length of stitches to the nearest multiple of 4 (going shorter is better than going longer), knit 5 rows of 4x4 rib, bound off, and stitched the short ends together.
Project Two: Fingerless gloves ("Fetching" from knitty.com)
(two pics under cut) )
I've finished the first and am partway through the second. Possibly overly ambitious as an early project, but it's not a whole lot more than knit and purl.

And here's a picture of a fuzzy crab )

For you crafty fans, Craftster.org has posted an AWESOME crochet pattern tutorial to make this cute Amigurumi version of Wicket the Ewok. Amigurumi is "the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals."

Click here for the full instructions.

And be sure to check out the cool variations from this patter and other Star Wars Amigurumi that fans made:

The fake ones and therefore not affected by the ugly sides of the real diamond industry. Tongue-in-cheek, as always!

Can anyone think of a way and/or point me toward a machine with which one could punch holes in paper like a traditional hole punch but further into the paper than a traditional handheld hole puncher would reach? I’m thinking of making a paper stencil and hole punching a design on it. I’m stumped as to how I’m going to get perfectly sized holes punched into the paper. Any advice is appreciated!

A friend of mine asked me to show her how to make a Jedi Hooded coat for her husband. These directions require at least some knowledge of sewing, as I'm not an expert pattern maker... And I used power point, so the drawings are crude. But if you've been wanting to make something like this, here's the basics. If you click on the photos they can be enlarged. Or send me a note and I can email you the full file. ~Lacie

(My Hooka Room project being temporarily on hold while we get through a surprise apartment move.)

Does anyone know how to get the labels off beer bottles in such a way that I can still use them for decoupage work? My husband loves beer from tiny breweries and I want to make him something with all the labels from the beer he's had but I don't know how to get the paper labels off without ruining them. Any thoughts?

Thanks! -R

I don't know how crafty this really is, but here are directions on how to change the logo color on your iBook. It's really quick and easy. You'll need an allen wrench, something to pry the case apart (I used a nail file), and a piece of paper/vinyl/plastic in whatever color you want the logo to be.

P.S. This will probably void your warranty, so be sure to check on that before you go cracking your computer open.

So, I mentioned yesterday that I got a button maker and shared some fabric covered buttons I made. Here's the original post.

Today I want to share some other things I've made with my button maker that aren't just traditional buttons. Rings & hair clips! I used more fabric scraps that I had saved + the medallion adapter for my button maker to make these flat-backed, fabric covered medallions. Once theyre made, you can basically attach them to any findings you'd like. You can click the thumbnails for larger images.

I used some vintage pieces I had to accent and interest to the rings. I hope you guys like 'em!

[livejournal.com profile] own_two_hands has a lovely tutorial on how to make these little creatures here. I swapped these two that I made, but I think I'm going to keep making them since they're fairly simple and can hold my attention which is a big plus lately =)

Here's the pic of the paint chip picture frame that I did. As you can see, it's streaky and clumpy.

Hey, it's my first time posting here.

I love baking, and making a huge mess whilst I'm at it. I'm also trying to do more sewing in an attempt to improve..

Thus a creation was born )
