I have a question for those of you who sell prints of your work. I'd like to do archival inkjet/giclees of some of my drawings, so how have you gone about doing so? I have some general questions.

1. I normally scan things to .tif at 300 dpi for storage/internets, but I get the feeling that's not high enough to produce quality prints. What's preferred?

2. I've been looking at archival papers, and the Crane Museo seem really nice, unless someone has a better recommendation.

3. And where are you getting your prints done? At home on your very own Epson, or at Kinko's, or at some really good internet printer?

4. I've seen pricing anywhere from 15 to 65 to (gasp) 250 for a single 11 x 14. What pricing do you find fair? I feel like anyone who pays 500 bucks for a Picasso giclee is getting ripped off, and all I'm hoping to do is have my art be affordable to someone who likes it, but ain't payin' for an original.

And for examples of what my drawings look like, for reference:

And my love for you is black and white... )

The last one's a drawing of Neil Gaiman's Death that I gave to him at the Anansi Boys signing, so that'll never be printed, but I rather like that drawing. (He kissed me for it! /fangirl)

This afghan follows a very simple design, worked in rounds much like a granny square:

I just came across this great link:

I was looking for some book directions, and they have several pdf tutorials, as well as a lot of great art lessons and activities. A wonderful resource!

How might I cut out a curved shape from a vinyl record? I'm making a purse and want to cut out handles. I did straight edges by scoring them and then just snapping the pieces off, but since I want to cut out a curved bit and a straight bit, that won't work.

Similarly, what can I do with all my extra vinyl record bits & pieces?

Just a little thing been working on. As I work in a little Edwardian theatre, there is no air conditioning, meaning in the summer it can get very very hot while wearing our uniforms. So I can quietly cool myself down while sitting inside I started collecting fans and have been pondering for a while about trying to recover one myself. I got a whole batch of cheap ones from work when they given out free at the opera.

It's by no means perfect, being the first time and all. But it's all learning. And I must say I really enjoyed making it. I've a feeling I'll be doing many more!

It used to look like this...or at least similar but red.

i am a fairly avid crafter and i have been thinking about selling some stuff, although right now, i usually jsut make stuff for myself and as gifts.  i know a lot of people here have etsy shops and i was wondering how you felt about them or those of you that shop on etsy.  is it bad if i'm not that productive?

any tips or experiences would be helpful!

on another note: how much of a piece do you feel you have to have made to call it your own?  like, if you did a reconstruction?  a lot of my stuff is like that but it looks totally different from the original but my brothers make fun of me and say that i'm not allowed to say "i made it"

I'm making invitations for a friend's babyshower. I have them all pretty much finished. They are cloth diapers [expect a picture post of the finish product] made out of precious moment fabric and the inside of the diaper its polka dotted fabric. I've also randomly selected who gets a soiled diaper [just a splash/amoeba looking imprint made out of brown construction paper] they are instructed to bring the soiled diaper to the shower whence they'll receive a diaper full of fancy chocolates...

The problem I'm facing is that I dont know how to word the invitation.... I think I want it to be casual or funny I usually am quite good at writing but I've come to a writer's block. I mean outside of saying who it's for, what time to RSVP and such...seems kind of bland. I guess what I'm trying to get at is there an etiquette for the babyshower invitations. I know there are etiquettes for weddings I dont know if the same applies for the babyshower ones. I dont want to have any faux pas lest I offend her mother in law or great aunt XD.

And my other problem is should I use vellum inserts for it or fine card stock. I have a plethora of both and really nice calligraphy pens.
