Elf tag

I made this little elf tag to use on my Christmas gifts to my family. And then I decided to make it a free download from my site to say thanks to everyone who visits my website and checks up on my blog and stuff! So go on and get yourself one!

...And another Christmas present for my sister! :) She wanted a framed picture of Meatloaf to commemorate seeing him in concert this year, after being a fan since we were in middle school. I couldn't just print a photo of him and stick it in a frame, though!! Instead I used...

* A cigar box lid
* Some paint
* A photoshop collage of the 3 Bat Out of Hell album covers and a photo of Mr. Loaf himself
* Another print of Mr. Loaf
* Some double sided tape
* A scan/print of sis's concert ticket
* A sandwich toothpick flag thingy from Hard Rock cafe (the concert was at HR Live and we ate at HR Cafe afterward)
* A drink stirrer in the shape of a guitar, also from HR Cafe
* A bat charm from an old pair of earrings
* A rubber bat (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] privytodoom!)
* A bit of chainmail looking stuff from an old belt
* A staple gun, some nails, a hammer, some glue, some frustration and some time and effort...

And I made her THIS!! )

I'm really REALLY happy with how it came out!!! :D

So  I'm trying to make oatmeal honey soap (MP) ... the recipe calls for vanilla fragrance oils, of which I am lacking. Can I safely substitute vanilla extract?

Friends are coming on Wednesday evening for our Seasonal Gift Swap (and for a girlie catch up). I thought I had more time to assemble "S's" son's gift. Ut Oh! They're cooooming!

OK, no time to learn to make beanies. A(nother) scarf will have to do!

I love the way this looked

http://loxosceles.org/crafty/cross_stitch_skull_cap.html

and since I can cross-stitch and embroider, I figured it would be a doddle to add it after-the-fact.

ummm, no.

No matter what I did (satin stitch, whip stitch) I couldn't get both sides to look good at the same time.

After giving up on the cool skull idea (and the HazMat symbol idea and the flames idea and the dragon head idea *sigh*) I settled on something that would look OK on both sides...

learn how to knit. I've taught myself how to crochet from some books I found at Michaels. I've got the basics of crocheting down but I would really love to teach myself how to knit. It seems that knitting is a bit harder but: 1)there seems to be more patterns on line & 2)I really love the things you can make.
So, does anyone have any suggestions on what would work best to teach myself? Books, websites...I'm up for anything. And any recommendations on needles?

Thank you so much. I love this community & its members! You have all given me such inspiration & I can't wait for finals to be over to try out some of these things.

Just finished a new wallet. I've been super busy with baking for the holidays so I haven't been able to do much sewing. I love how this turned out though. =)

Found this on the Craftzine Blog

Yuki Mori and Takeo Igarashi from The University of Tokyo have createdthis really cool tool for designing plush toy patterns. It looks veryeasy to learn and lets you model completely original toys, then givesyou the 2D pattern from which to sew. Computer science just got cute. -[via] Link.

pretty clever. Keep an eye out for it!

I've been uber-crafty lately, mostly making gifts as Christmas is getting nearer every second. (AUGH!) However, I made something for myself today.

Scarf-tastic! )

As for the crafting for others, here are three ornaments I made for a swap.

STOP! If you're in the ornament swap [livejournal.com profile] campfires started and want your ornament from me to be a surprise, DO NOT click on the cut!

You guys may remember that I posted the princess peach dress I made for halloween this year. That was my first sewing project and since it came out pretty good I decided to try to make a holiday dress that I can wear to Christmas parties I'll be going to this year. I bought really pretty silver, white and black plaid fabric and got to work. I'm usually a size 14 so I cut my pattern and all my fabric. Problem is, the sleeves are too small (the rest of it may be too but the arms are the only thing I've been able to try on so far). Is there any way to salvage it without starting all over or am i screwed? I'm really not very good at this so I'm at a complete loss and ready to just scrap the whole project.
