(no subject)
Jan. 7th, 2008 03:08 amso lately ive been obsessed with finding a way to be creative. i browsed this website for houuuurs and decided i want to start making jewelry. i want to use a lot of materials like shrinky dinks, beads made from all sorts of things, ribbons, felt, all sorts of things. i have practically no experience what so ever but a lot of ambition. i would totally appreciate and will probably seek tons of advice. today i tried making a necklace... just kind of out of what i could find around the house. i printed a picture of my favorite author, charles bukowski. i cut it out carefully and attatched it to a piece of a manilla folder i also cut out. after that i kind of laminated it with packing tape, deconstructed a necklace or two, and half assed the hell out of it.
im also wearing a necklace that i "made" over the summer. its a chain with a tiny seashell from a local beach in MA and a small silver whale.

shrinky dink questions
Jan. 7th, 2008 05:38 am1- how do you put a small hole in a finished shrinky dink product
2- is there a way to transfer images of any kind onto shrinky dink paper? or does it have to be free hand?

Jan. 7th, 2008 09:43 amhi! i made purses and knitted hoods for friends (pics i took with my new digital camera!!!!)
lots of pictures and i didn't have anyone to model the hoods so my lion did the honors ;)
the purse is pattern simplicity 6425
the hood is pattern lion brand 60614
( bag ladies and hooded mamas )
i'm sorry i thought the pics were in better focus.... hmmm... i might have to play with the camera more to get it right.
one neat thing about the purses is i found labels that say hand made by and they had a bunch of names you can pick from, i found mine so it's really personal for my friends, i found those at hancock fabrics.

On-a-whim Recycled CD Drop Spindle
Jan. 7th, 2008 01:35 pmI made something that looked like a spindle.
And, with no fuss, just a lot of hot glue.
(I found How To Make a Hand Spindle tutorials at Spindle and Wheel , and DIYCrafts .)

The next step is knowing how to use it!
If you spin yarn with a drop spindle, I've got a question:
Do you recommend that I use a smaller hook?

Deity Bracelets
Jan. 7th, 2008 04:20 pmMy son has really enjoyed the "Percy Jackson" series of books.
These books are about Greek Mythology, and Jacob has really enjoyed first the books and than reading more about the Greek Myths. For Christmas he got a reference book of Mythology. Anyway, I'm crafty... you all know this... and I just couldn't help myself, the urge was just too strong and the subject matter to broad not to make some cool stuff, and hopefully just the first two of many "Deity Bracelets."
Here are Poseidon... god of the Sea... and Apollo... the poet.
There are TONS of pictures... I'm trying to improve at my picture taking... how do you like them?
** I have also posted this on my Journal.**

More crafts using natural dyes.
Jan. 7th, 2008 08:02 pmMore pretty homemade things - I've been busy again!
I like using natural dyes - takes time, but interesting results.
