OK, so I need to remember that the correct sequence of things is to go to the MisKnits yarn store first, *THEN* go sell stuff at Half Price Books....

So, I was ambushed by 3 hanks of Brown Sheep Company's Burly Spun Yarn in Forest Floor and 1 hank of Mountains Majesty:

Yarn Cakes! )

Can I say that the name Burly Spun is definitely Truth in Advertising? This stuff was about a 1/4" thick!

Anyway, on to the (almost) finished product:

Forest Dreams Shawl )

Next step: Pop it off the loom and *very* gently full it -- this stuff will felt at the drop of a hat!

I finally finished this one up today.
This is the fourth afghan I have made

This is x posted in a few places so you may see it again on live journal.

p.s. if you think that looks like eyes peeking out of the blankets ... it is.

Did you know it's very hard to find a cute, inexpensive address book? It is, at least in my city. So I decided to take a journal and turn it into an address book. Very easy, very cute, and it was a Unicef sponsored journal, so I did a good deed, too!
Here it is! )
I'll probably cut the bottom corners off the pages where letters start, just to make it easier to flip through.

Question...

ok...so, other than the obvious COLLAGE or DECOUPAGE...what do all of you lovely craftgrrls do with those random pieces of paper that you tend to collect?? I have postcards, random pieces of paper that i've collected from magazines, notes, ticket stubs, etc. Right now, everything is in shoe boxes, scattered amongst my desk and up on 2 lovely french corkboards (I believe thats what they are called) ...so, what do you fantastic ladies do with all this stuff that you tend to collect in your lives??

Thank you all so much!!

So I got these 5x7 canvas board things at JoAnns for a 1.97. There were three of them. I finished one, am stuck on another, and am feeling lazy for the third.

Today is hubby's 64th birthday, so I made him this card.
old fogey card here )
To make the card, I printed out the dinosaur from my artist program on computer and also did the writing on same page, then cut and matted it. I tore the printed paper, and inked the edges, then drew and cut out the dinosaur tracks and used sponge dots to attach them to the card, same with dinosaur. So it is 3-D but you can't really tell by the photo. I got the idea from Cardmaker magazine, latest edition. I thought it was cute so went with it. Besides, the card I wanted to make I couldn't because the set of stamps I ordered I haven't received yet. I wanted to do a pickup truck loaded with gifts, etc. Next year for sure. Or maybe valentine's day.

Hmmmm....

Ok don't judge me!

I just went to the trash dumpster by my apartment to throw out some trash and I saw this little black table with a mirror on top sitting next to the trash can. Next to...

Anyway it doesnt look bad, just outdated. Anyway... I am debating going and getting it.

Do you think I could use hodge podge on the mirror surface and collage some pictures and stuff on the top to make a new table top?

Next to the trash... not in it...
lol

EDIT: GOT IT!

Have any other jewelers in this community noticed a quality difference in the silver products they have bought, recently? Ever since the last few price hikes in the metal market, I've found that supplier after supplier lets me down, selling me sterling silver wire or fittings that claim to be what they were before, but are of inferior quality, especially in the sense of strength/durability/brittleness. I am finding it hard to question, any more, that the actual manufacturors of the silver goods are compensating for the value increases not only by raising prices, but by producing goods of a lower standard. I am wasting time and money, compensating for crap quality sterling parts breaking far too easily, in the most recent work I've done for customers and myself. (Thankfully, it's only been an issue in the past few months.) That is obviously good neither for me nor my customers, yet I'm likewise reluctant to simply stop crafting things within the medium.

To top it all off, after making hundreds of individual componants from PMC3-fine silver, I have suddenly run into a packet that wasn't what all the others had been. According to the manufacturor's chart (and there is only one manufacturor of that particular product), it is supposed to have a shrinkage rate of 10-15%. In pieces the size of the pieces I made from this rogue packet, the resulting size difference between pre- and post-firing pieces has never been noticable. This time, however, there was a shrinkage rate of 16-25%. -- which led to a rather noticible difference, with the pieces ending up a good 1/4" smaller than they were ordered to be. Most of my commissions involve at least some work with PMC, and I feel punched in the gut by the notion that it, too, is suddenly unreliable and unpredictable.

So, am I alone with this/these problems? Ideas? I'm going to be writing to the distributor of the PMC products, that I use, as well as the manufacturing company, if I can manage it -- I doubt it'll get me anywhere, but it can't hurt. At least there are still plenty of sources for sterling wire and parts, to test.
