I made my first homemade salt scrub last night - 0.5 cup sweet almond oil, 1.5 cup sea salt, 10 drops orange essential oil - and I love it! It sorted out my boyfriend's dry feet in a flash.

I want to make a brown sugar scrub today, but I've run out of sweet almond oil. Google tells me that some people use normal vegetable oil in their scrubs, and I was wondering if there's any concensus here as to whether that works okay. I'm imagining sweet almond oil is recommended because it carries the essential oil better than regular vegetable oil does?

Also, does anyone who makes their own scrubs add vitamin E oil to help preserve them? How long do your sugar scrubs last, whether you add the vitamin E or not? I'm thinking of making some for a gift and don't have time to run an experiment with shelf life as the occasion is next week!

Thanks so much for your help guys!

do you think adding deep purple accents would be too much?

So, I colore these shoes last night and I'm extremely proud of them:
Leopard prinnt )
But does anyone have anysuggestions for how I should waterproof them?
I could have sworn I wrote more before, but apparently I got distracted... anyway, I colored these with sharpies and they are no boundaries flats from wal mart, thus not being leather, they're man-made, but they're plastic-y, not canvas. Isn't there some sort of sealant(eek, spelling) I can use?

I just want to share with everyone.... I bought this organization bin from Toys r Us, it's amazing. I have all my glues in one bin, sparkly stuff in another. I'm in the middle of organizing it actually. But it was a great addition to my craft room! no more shoe boxes! (ok, maybe just a few)

edit: sorry, I didn't know everyone and their mom (literally) already had one. I'm from Toronto and it's the only time I had ever seen one like this. so you can imagine my excitement!

I want to paint my dresser black. But I am dumb and have no idea what kind of paint to use. Ideas?

Also, I'm making this baby blanket for a friend's baby girl. And now I'm starting to worry that it might be a little too blue aka boy-ish. But then again, these colors aren't very boyish at all. So I dunno? Can't decide if it's worth finishing or not.

Let's just say I really really don't want to do my homework.
Thus I have 2 questions-

fusing bags- it's legit to do plastic bags I know. However.

1) can you fuse foil wrappers?

also

2) is there a way to make "fabric" from cards (Tarot, playing, etc etc)

Thanks everyone.

so it's that valentines time of the year and i know there's people out there scrabbling for ideas for gifts because that's me every holiday. i loved the idea of the "52 Things I Love About You" books from the memories, however i wanted to do things a little different. so this year for my boyfriend i went into craft overload. it's scrapbook meets mixtape meets 52 things meets collage meets duct tape.

I've turned a pair of black jeans into a bag but now I'm stumped. It needs a shoulder strap which is easy enough to sort out but it's too plain. How can I funk it up a bit?

So here is one of the first bracelets i made about 4 years ago.

It kind of pulled the hairs on my arm though so I hardly ever wore it. I decided to take it apart and make it anew!

voila! a cute little charm bracelet instead.

I shall wear it this week! Green is my new favorite color.

Rag Doll

Hello, you helpful bunch! For some reason I've got it in my head that I want to make a Mrs. Lovett (from Sweeney Todd) doll, and dress her in the "By the Sea" outfit, the red and white striped one. But I don't want anything too complicated by way of a doll pattern. I'm actually looking for something like the pictures behind the cut.

Meet Bernice )

In the second picture, you can see the seam where the head is sewn on. Originally the body and head were all one piece, but an evil puppy we had for a while when I was 6 chewed her head off, and Mom made her a new one. (Overnight, secretly, and very quickly, because I would've died if Bernice had gone headless for any longer. Wicked, wicked dog!) The hair is yarn, and the face, I'm pretty sure, is eyeliner pencil and a bit of blush.

ANYway. The point is, does anyone know of a very similar (free please!) pattern for a rag doll like this? I found a couple of sites, but they had five hundred thousand patterns archived on one page with no thumbnails and I couldn't dig through them all. So any pointers you can give me would be very appreciated! I'd like for the Mrs. Lovett doll to have a nipped-in waist like she's wearing a corset, and boobs would be optional, but I could probably fudge a pattern for a more "little girl" type of doll if necessary. Thanks very much for your help!
