Red Mempo Scarf

A collaboration between [livejournal.com profile] nenimo and myself. He came up with the idea for a mempo inspired scarf and sketched out some design ideas, which I later re interpreted and then silkscreened onto these fleece scarves!

The Japanese Mempo is a traditional armoured face mask found on a Samurai Kabuto helmet. These masks not only protected their faces, but were used to intimidate foes on the battlefield.

Hello! I need some advice from all of you awesome crafters! I'm finally really getting my etsy website going, and I want to get my name out there. I have a fair amount of page views everyday, but I haven't had many sales despite all of the emails and comments I get complimenting my stuff. My prices are reasonable (nothing is over $20 yet). I just feel like not enough people who are there to buy se my stuff: it seems like at etsy a lot of people are just there to look around and maybe even get ideas for their own shop. How do you guys advertise your sites?

After my recent posts of my visual journal, I got some comments and e-mails from people sounding a little concerned about me. First off, thanks for the concern. It inspired me to write a short article about my take on visual journaling. I posted it on my blog.

Read it and let me know what you think. I think it could open up some interesting dialogue.

Hey guys- long time lurker, first time poster:) I don't know if this counts as craft, but I decided to get creative with framing two ACEOs of mine:

So I've come up with this design for a focal bead necklace and earrings set. The idea is for it to feature one focal bead, and be relatively simple, but still use nice quality (ie sterling silver) findings. There are a few small silver beads in there as well, but the black beads are just seed beads. So my materials cost is a lot lower than for a necklace that uses a) a bigger, more expensive clasp, b) semi precious stones, and c) more silver. I think it looks really simple and classy, and lets the focus be on the big bead. This particular big bead was really hard to photograph. I want to offer some items in the $20-30 range (rather than $80-100 which is what some of my other necklaces with multiple beads go for). My vision is to have many of these at my stand, and to have a smaller amount of my more expensive sets on display. The more expensive sets never sell at craft fairs, only at a small gallery that I am in, but I like to have some out anyway (just in case, plus to at least show people my beautiful big pieces and draw them in!)

Alright, let it fly. What do you or don't you like about this necklace, would you buy it, how much would you pay, do you think that it is worth making a bunch more? PS I make the lampwork beads myself (as most of you know by now!)

The other night I mentioned to my mom (http://ohsocrafty.blogspot.com) I would LOVE if there were a way to decorate my wedding cake (which she is baking as I type this) with different colored buttons (since I collect and make things out of them).

The next day she went out and found a candy mold for them and has spent the past few days slaving in the kitchen making hundreds of candy buttons.

I recycled an old pair of PJ bottoms into some little hand sewn bags to keep my underwear in!

Just something very basic, it's my first sewing project in years!

Suddenly got into making things out of felt when I needed something to protect my ipod and didn't want to buy anything.

Mostly I just make things up as I go along, have fun, and hope for the best.
