so...i love doing crafts, but i have a few problems.

1. i am a college student with very little cash.
2. usually when i make things they are kitschy and useless, so they just sit around
3. i am busy and don't have a car so i rarely have time to go buy supplies

i guess what i am looking for are ideas for someone who likes to make things with her hands that are cost efficient, not just do-dads that will sit around my house, and can be made cheaply and mostly with things from around the house.

any ideas?

hi all,

not really a Craft post but thought it was pertinent if it's not feel free to delete it.

I was in my local Big Lots yesterday, and they have some really nice yarns on sale. I got 3 skeins of lion brand fettuccini and 3 skeins of Lion Suede for $1.50 each. I wanted to get more and I probably will go back to get some more.

I just thought you crafty kinda folks might ought check your biglots for some great yarn deals.

x-posted to craftgrrl.

i dont really sew all the much, but i decided i wanted a tutu and wasnt going to pay $30 for one.
so i bought some fabric from a thrift store and winged it. (i'm going to a scifi con next week.)

I finally finished the wrap I was working on for a friend at work. I gave it to her at work a couple of days of ago and she LOVED it. She was showing it off to everyone who was in the breakroom at the time :) . I had four skeins of yarn left over, so I took them back to the store - the receipt was from March of LAST YEAR. Yes, it took me a WHOLE YEAR to make this. Mostly because I wasn't working on it all the time, and then I decided that I should do three crochet projects at one time. Yeah, that really didn't work out so well.

Anyway - Pictures! )

I used Caron Simply Soft in Autumn Red, and a really simple triple-single-triple-single-on-and-on-like-that stitch.

Currently, the only knitting needles I own are my trusty straight metal 10s and my ghetto homemade DPNs. I've been thinking about expanding my collection, and that's how I ran across the Denise Interchangable Knitting Needle Set. Do any of you crafty grrls have experience with Denise needles? I love the idea of having all those different size needles and different length cords, but I'm having a few qualms about dropping $50 on them when I'm jobless and neither Christmas nor my birthday are in the near future.

And because text-only posts are boring, here's a knitted bag I just finished. )

Well, as promised, here is the present I made for my swap partner. I'm not as pleased with how this turned out as I could be, I guess. I would have liked to have had the time to make her some cute little socks and mary-janes, and also a felt oboe, but alas I did not.

So, let's just jump to it.

This is Emma. Emma plays the oboe in her school band (that's her school uniform there!) even though everyone knows the flute players get all the good solos. She studies French on the weekends at Saturday school, and one day she hopes to travel to France and play her music in quaint Parisian cafes.

Emma is made from chenille upholstery material, with a flannel breast and felt legs.
