New member ahoy!

My name is Lauren. I'm a college student from Raleigh, NC studying to be an art teacher. I'm also a knitting geek. Even as we speak, there are random UFOs all over my dorm room. My favorite knitting book is Romantic Handknits by Annie Modesitt.

I come with a question: I want to start a knitting club/circle at my college. (It's a small women's college.) Does anyone have any ideas for a catchy name?
Some info about our school: The name of the school is Meredith College. Our school mascot is the Avenging Angel. For some reason, we have this weird affinity for Alice in Wonderland (our email server is "whiterabbit" and our wireless internet network is "jabberwocky", among other references).

I want something better than the obvious Stitch N Bitch or Chicks with Sticks or whatever. I'm drawing a creative blank.

Also, any tips for getting started and getting members would be helpful. I'm already planning on putting up flyers in the dorms and the student center and the various message boards around campus and offering lessons to those who want to learn.

Thanks, ladies!

you may remember a post or 2 last winter about some fabric scarves i had made.  they were very limited to cotton prints & the random upholstery scrap.  well, i've regrouped & upgraded for this year - upcycling men/womens trouser pants & skirts from thrift stores!  always washed beforehand, of course.  i think they look a lot better.

So, I'm one of those people who likes to be way overprepared and I carry a lot of stuff with me in my backpack at all times, but I don't want it all like stuffed into my wallet. I have a bunch of things like tissues, my checkbook, a mini notebook, gift cards, etc. that I was carrying around in a grody Ziploc bag forever. However, I found this cute owl print bandana abandoned by a guest at my work, and I was inspired by this post to make an envelope to contain my supposed necessities.

So I came up with this idea to start a charity that would collect donations (monetary or tangible items) and give them to shelters around the area for homeless women & their families. Basically I would be a middle man between the public and the needy. I'm just trying to create awareness and draw people to donate and help out the communtiy.

Anyways, so what are some ideas I could use to draw people to make donations? Honestly there are many things I would like to do to get my idea off the ground and to do all of the nice things I would like  for the shelter, but it costs money, and I'm sure we've all just walked right past someone at a table with a money bucket sitting in front of our local grocer or department store without dropping one red cent.

What are some inexpensive promo items I could create or customize as a gesture to "thank" those that donate, or give incentive to those who may think twice about doing so?

TIA!
