For my sister's high school graduation I decided to make her a t-shirt quilt. This was less difficult than I thought but a lot more time-consuming. (Duh.)

While I chose old shirts that had belonged to us, I wanted to use their graphics and colors as design elements rather than showing off the shirts in a more intact manner. The backing is fleece, and I can provide a tutorial if anyone wants it.

Here's a closeup of the center square, embroidered in a tribute to her college choice, an old pickup line, and a Silver Jews song we both like a lot.

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some baby toy ideas I can sew... I have a 16 mo. old nephew and his newborn brother and I'd like to mail them something they can play with. Any simple ideas/patterns you guys can steer me to? I'm semi new to sewing so I don't need anything too difficult. I'm thinking some kind of plushy stuffed toy maybe?

I have lots of recycled denim and corduroy that I thought would be good durable textures they'd enjoy, along with a good random assortment of cotton prints and such. The newborn obviously is, well, a newborn (haha) but the 16 mo old is wide open and curious and a real busy body! Any ideas?

Hey guys

I'm currently curating an exhibition for the Melbourne Fringe Festival called Totem: Dolls and Souls. The idea behind it is that over 100 artists have created a self portrait doll, not of how they look on the outside but how they feel about themselves or see themselves on the inside. It's an incredible exhibition, and it opens next week at Fed Square, for those of you in Melbourne.

And I couldn't curate a show such as that without making an entry myself

I love her. If you're interested, you can see other dolls from Totem on my blog www.page63.blogspot.com

And I’ve been sitting in the studio and at home surrounded by all these incredible dolls and it’s slowly dawned on me that not only is Totem about self identity, like a vox pop of how a section of society see themselves, but it’s also a flagship for promoting modern craft practice. Each one of these dolls has been created differently, and there’s such a wide range of construction techniques that this really is a showcase of how varied craft can be. Craft isn’t just macramé plant holders and crocheted knee rugs anymore, it’s a hugely diverse and incredibly inspirational worldwide movement. And i just wanted to share my love with y'all.

So rock on with your good selves and if you're in Melbourne in the next 4 weeks, come see the show. It's free to all and it's open 24 hours a day.

What is the site Revasberator or something like it where you print out a picture to whatever scale?

I cannot find it for the life of me! Thank you!

This summer, I wanted to find a project I would actually WEAR in the summer months. Sure, I have a ton of hats and love 'em, same with scarves, and my purses and pillows are well used. But things such as sweaters, shawls, and ponchos always seem to allude me. Well, I decided to knit a common summer staple of mine--a halter top. As summers here in Little Egypt are painfully hot, even in late September, this top came at the right time!
It was knit with three skeins of Lion Brand Cotton, color black (duh), on size 8 needles...what else...everyone asked when I would knit in public what I was making, and when I said a halter top, they stared and said 'No way! You can't knit that!' Well, I did. And it sure is comfy!

Popular demand. I didn't take any pictures during the process, so all of the images below are either from Google Images or my own fevered imagination.

Materials:

t-shirts (number will vary based on size of quilt and size of shirt; I used at least 14 plus some other scrap fabric I had on hand for a twin)

intrigued? )

Mini Diorama

An image of it with the cap on is under the cut! )

I made this last night out of some scrap watercolour paper. It is inside one of those quarter machine capsules that toys come it. The plastic cap is frosted though, but I will be sure to get some clear ones for next time!

I saw something like this once, unfortunately can't remember where. Someone had taped a little sketch inside a capsule, so I decided to do a version of my own with marker and watercolours!

"Dragon" bracers.  Handmade. Hand-stitched leather (3 layers), brass rivets, hand-coining on 1 mm brass plates.
Functional fencing gear and, I think, nice item as well

Burda 9674 - my first successful Burda. I'm not sure what was wrong with me (or the pattern company) 6 years ago, but now these patterns aren't frustrating. Or maybe I'd just chosen a pattern that was 'way beyond my sewing ability back then. :-D

Sizes 7 and 10. I made some minor modifications to this pattern. Instead of a rounded hood, I made them pointed. In the pattern, they have the hood lined, but I lined the entire cape. This is intended to be an autumn-functional Hallowe'en costume. It gets cold up here in Southern Ontario when the kids go door-to-door begging for candy. The gap in the cape on the right indicates a pocket in the side seam. Each cape has 2 pockets. I cut them in the same fleece as the capes, but lined them with the satin lining fabric to keep little hands toasty. (And my models asked me to obscure their faces for internet consumption.)
4 more pictures under the cut, none larger than 200k )

So I've done mild research and I'm still confused... so I am coming here for advice from people who have actually done this. I want to make my own postcard by adhering a photo to cardstock. I'm worried that UHU might not be strong enough? should I Elmer's it? glue gun?

Hello all :)

I've had a look in the memories and gotten somewhat inspired but I'm stuck for ideas to make this work.

My boyfriend and I are going to a fancy dress party in a few weeks time. I've got an adorable alice in wonderland costume and we were thinking it would be awesome to have him go as the cheshire cat or the mad hatter. I prefer the cat idea simply because I think it would be funny. Facepainting a big grin on him and making some furry pink and purple cats ears is easy enough, but how on earth should I make him a pink and purple stripey outfit? I thought about just getting a cheap tshirt and pair of shorts and painting them all stripey, and I guess I could use facepaint on his arms and legs. But I'm sure theres a better way. It would be cool if he was all fuzzy but I can't afford that much fake fur!

Can anyone help me with some crafty ideas? Thank you!
