You know what I like best about this community?
It's how unlikely it is that anyone might scream "OLD!"

Anyway, I just finished a necklace for a friend's birthday but can't decide whether I hate it or think it looks ok... Can anyone help me in this moment of great need?

People! This is a cry for help!

At one in the morning, it was the most awesome thing since cheese. This is the sort of thing that happens to me when I can't sleep. I spend half the night giggling to myself like a mad scientist over the sewing machine and wake up with half finished viking ships stuck to my head.

I have a 12-year-old neice, Elena, who is bright, girly and clever. She loves all things glittery and personal and colorful. So I made her something for x-mas out of a stack of magazines, a wooden letter from Target (clearance for 99 cents), some "jewels" and a cigar box i got free from the grocery store. the letter Es go all the way around the box. She is going to love it.

My question.

Is crushed penne fabric safe for a baby's plushie?

I'm thinking of making a teddy bear or similar stuffie out of remaining crushed penne fabric. Is this fabric safe for a two month old? And I have no safety eyes, I have friends I might be able to snag on short notice, but if not I would attempt embroidery.

Ideas?

Hello Crafters!

I have just been given about 150 roses. Yes, it was beautiful, and yes, he did screw up in a major way, and no, this alone hasn't gotten him out of the dog house. But it was an impressive step.

Anyway, they're a mix of white, red, and pink, and I'd like to find a way to preserve some, or most of them. I've done some googling, but a lot of the ideas I'm reading are really time consuming, like pushing them through a meat grinder every day for 2 weeks and then making beads from the paste. I'm not quite that ambitious.

I suppose I could just dry some by hanging them upside down, but I thought I'd ask some talented people before I decided.

Thanks for reading this!

This is my first Shadow Box. Sorry about the poor quality webcam photo.
I found a shadow box at the salvation army for around a dollar, and added an image to a wooden plaque that I had painted black, put chain around it, then placed the autograph under it.

Crappy Closeup...

Christi Friesen posted a limited-time downloadable tutorial on how to make these---so while the original idea is not mine, I did some adjusting to it. Like all the other crafts being posted lately, this is a present. (Shhh, don't tell my girlfriend!) It's about an inch and a half long, and the gears were taken from thrifted watches. Talk about a headache! Those things were harder to remove than I expected. The two big silver gears are actually small snap-style buttons, painted silver and inserted snap-down into the clay.

As I said before I am currently making crafts for (and participating in) my schools production of The Vagina Monologues. This year 40% of the money goes to The Women of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the rest goes to several local organizations (Yet to be decided).

If you would like to help by donating crafts email me (demitrye@yahoo.com) or message me here.
