Owlies

I can't sew, i'm awful with a sewing machine. I tend to sew something, then find out i've done it inside out, sewn over the place i was supposed to leave, or my brain can't see that i just need to turn it inside out/the right way round and attach something else and it would be fine - so i start over instead. It's safe to say i gave up on that.

Then someone (sorry!) posted the tutorial on the wee owls a while ago, and i have a love affair with cute owls so i had to try. Mainly because i knew a sewing machine wasn't needed xD Many trials ensued, and i have an army of half finished, half stuffed owls. I got frustrated at the fabrics i was trying to use because they stretched and let the seams show. So i bought some felt and had a go with that instead - and i'm converted. It's so much easier to use, folds the way i want it to, and is a bit more sturdy.

Moral of the day is - try everything and anything! You might surprise yourself and be happy with what you manage to churn out.

With me being poor and jobless, I needed a cheap project and I need to fill up the space on the wall behind my TV.  Since I live in an apartment, I couldn't paint my mural....  After seeing a craftster post of how you could use spray starch and fabric to imitate those Blik surface graphics, I decided to bring it to the next level.  I made many mistakes, but finally got the thing up and running.... and it is STILL on the wall (despite my cat, Rio's, efforts to pull it down).

You may want to test it on an unsightly area of your house to make sure no starch residue remains that can't be wiped off with a damp cloth after you deced to remove the mural/wall graphic/whatever you call it.  I have really matte walls, and still had no problems with it... but better safe than sorry!

A while back I asked for help sourcing small buckles for part of a costume (I ended up using MacCulloch & Wallis is anyone was wondering) & as promised here are the photos of myself & [livejournal.com profile] tictactoepony in said costumes (some of these photos are thanks to her!) I'm rather pleased with the results! :)

Photos! )

I also added the 'ears' & beads to the wigs (quality of wig-hair not my fault!)
