I have this couch and chair set, you see, and I bought it at the Salvation Army.  While is is a GREAT living room set and exactly what I always wanted in a place to plop my butt (wooden frame from the 80's or so that the cats can't scratch up, with cushions), the cushions are leaving something to be desired.  They are really flat and not too fluffy at all.  Does anyone have experience in reupholstering things or making new cushions?  I've been looking into foam by the yard but it is INCREDIBLY expensive, even WITH 40-50% off coupons.  Would I be ok with taking the cushions I already have and just adding a few more wraps of batting to the decade(s) old foam and then recovering them?  Would this be a feasable idea or am I just fooling myself in the hopes of saving money.

Also, has anyone here ever repurposed a blender into a fish tank?  Yes. A blender into a fish tank.  I want to make one for a friend who has a bachelor pad but am unsure of the schematics of it.  I found one someone had made on an old blog but it didn't give specifics, just  showed it with the motor removed and a light of some sorts put in where the motor had been.

I apologize for the text-only... I've been slaving away on product for my next convention (I'll be in the dealer room at Tekkoshocon, selling handmade cat ears and tails)  and showing photos of the same thing in a million different colors is kind of boring.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

so, i'm going to make a mobile for my unborn nephew, and i'd like to use felt for some of it. obviously, those 8x10 sheets of felt you can get at the craft store are super thin, too thin to make stuffies. some of the bolt felt at my local joanne's is thick enough, but only comes in a couple of colors.

all this is to say, where do you buy your thick craft felt? www.feltorama.com? www.thefeltpeople.com? i found these with just a cursory google search, but i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these or other places? is my best option to use 3mm felt?

halp?

I meant to put these up a long time ago, but I've been on cold medicine for awhile which makes me too stupid to work the interwebz. XD But I was thrift-store hopping a couple of weekends ago and I made some skirts!

I have too many projects going, you say? Fie upon thee! One cannot have too many WIPs. (Besides, I just frogged the knit shawl and socks that I lost interest in after a few rows. :))

So I was looking around the interwebs late last night and I just happened to discover a LYS in my area that I can actually get to by bus in under half an hour! *cue me doing the happy Snoopy dance*

So, with my Happy Hooker in hand (to make sure I didn't buy anything without a project in mind!) I betook myself over to Depth of Field Yarn. I spent about an hour while the hubby got bored after two minutes and headed across the street to the Weinery for lunch. After much ooing and ahing and fondling of pretty pretty yarn, I finally decided on five hanks of Tahki Classic Mercerised Cotton in rose (on sale for $3.85!!!) to make the Sweet Pea Shawl, which the very helpful, if gruff, employee showed me how to wind up on the ball-winder (I'm like a little kid-- the ball winder is so much fun!).

All in all I am rather pleased with my first LYS experience. I had read on Ravelry others' poor experiences at local stores, but this store seemed free of those problems, the only issue I see being that there is no handicapped access to the sale loft. The aisles were wide enough, no one followed me around, no gaggles of yarn snobs were in sight, and everything was individually priced, well organized, and free of icky smells.

The only sad part is that, being wool-sensitive, I couldn't use half of the pretty pretty stuff there. :(

And now I am sitting across the street from my apartment typing this up and working on my shawl. The pattern is a pain in my ass (nearly a thousand double treble crochets? Seriously?) but it will look very nice when done and the color will look very nice on me. So far I have 24 shells completed... only 168 more to go. :/

And so this isn't all text, pictures! )
