I hadn't decided what to do with the t-shirt yarn I'd made around my birthday (post is here if you want to see!)
I'd thought about making coasters, or combining like colors to make a rug or something like that.

Today, while the boyfriend and I were sweating (from the heat, the Air Force, and missing one another, among other things...) we had quiet time and I spent a few minutes crocheting....

This is how I do... )

Anybody ever use it? Tips/advice? Thanks!

I made an Amigurumi turtle for my friend's birthday next month. I used the free pattern on the Lion Brand website, but used Cotton Ease instead of the Vanna's Choice that the pattern suggests, and an E hook instead of a G. He's 6 1/2 inches from nose to tail, and 2 3/4 inches tall.

I'm so happy with the way it turned out, and so excited that I don't want to wait to give it to her, lol.

Lately we've been getting an influx of selling posts (and I've been doing quite a bit of banning) so as a reminder:

Here on [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl there is to be NO BUYING/SELLING/TRADING!!!

Posts violating this rule will be automatically deleted. We will strictly enforce this. This includes advertising, references to Ebay/Etsy shops and listings, selling journals, or on-line shops.

If you are interested in buying an item posted here, please check the poster's journal and userinfo for more information, and contact them outside of the community. If you can not find any information, you may ask the poster if they are selling the item. (This should be an absolute last resort!)

Images with WATERMARKS containing a personal or store name are allowed, but watermarks containing a website address or local store address are not permitted. "Mary's Stuff" is okay, "marysstuff.com" is not.

Hi, all! I have a question and a notice.

First, the question. What are some good beginner sculpy projects? I like animals, anime and video game things, and I was wondering if anyone had some good ideas. (I forsee a lot of Kirby's... with many hats...). I've googled around but haven't found much (the sculpey website itself is pretty sparse). Does anyone have some fun (beginner/intermediate) clay projects they would like to share?

Second, the notice! Joann's (joann.com) has Sculpey/Fimo/other clays on sale for $1.37 a brick. They also have a promotion where shipping is $5 flat for the whole order, so stock up on goodies! :)

I'm making a hair piece for a friend for a wedding she is attending and I want to use wire hair combs like this:

I can't figure out a way to attach them though. When I make hair pieces I usually use alligator clips and hard felt and then cut a hole in the felt and super glue it.

Any tips on how to attach these?

Thanks :)

I'm new to knitting, having learned (after about 2 decades of watching both my parents and my grandmother knit) back in January of this year. Needless to say, I'm obcessed. I knit projects both on regular knitting needles and on Provo Craft's Knitting Looms.

The following Halloween Stockings, my own pattern and design, were knitted on Provo Crafts small circular loom (mine is blue, but colors may vary).

Yay! After about five failed demos, I finally figured out a way to print out the cards onto card stock and make them all uniform size. I know it sounds like a simple proposition, but it was a pain! I finally settled on creating faint, light-gray guidelines on my template. I abandonned the chopper and cut out the cards using a metal ruler and razor. It worked wonderfully.

I also tinkered around and made a little handmade box to keep the cards in. I'm going to give this deck to my friend [livejournal.com profile] kwamagu as a thank you for introducing me to the game and inspiring me.

From this pattern. I loved Totoro when I was a little kid and my sister loves it now. So, here it is, a cute little white totoro. Maybe I'll give it to her as a present... or maybe I'll keep it!
More! )

Alright crafty girls armed with crochet hooks, I have a question. I have a pattern that I am following and it said to use any size hook to get the gauge of 1 square being 4 inches. No matter what size hook I use I cannot get my squares to be that big. Is there anything any of you can suggest that may work for the sizing issue?
