Twig Spring Sign
Apr. 2nd, 2012 12:18 pm
I found this idea on a blog link party and loved everything about it.
As you can see, I had a bit of a problem keeping the twigs curved for the S, so I ended up enforcing the bottom curved twig with wire, then wrapping with jute.
To bend your twigs, first choose new growth, very gently bend them and submerse them, coiled, in the bottom of a glass of water or a jar for about a day. Take them out and then wrap them around a paper towel or toilet paper roll and tape them into place. Let them dry for at least two days.
Assemble the twigs using jute or twine, gluing the loose end with hot glue.
Crocheted Jute Vase
Mar. 31st, 2012 11:13 am
I crocheted this vase using jute from the dollar store. I improvised as I went along, using single crochet for the bottom and then switching to double crochet.
I wasn't sure what sort of arrangement I was going to use it for but when I found the braided stem of a ficus plant I had killed years ago, I decided to make a topiary using silk foliage because I kill all plants other than succulents.
I shaved a florist's oasis into a ball shape, then just inserted the stems of the leaves from three different types of plants: ivy, philodendron, and what looks like brunnera - all from the dollar store.
Cost of project: $5.50

Feb. 21st, 2012 05:15 pmgeneral question - has anyone dried mushrooms for presentation/decoration and how did it go / what did you do? I picked a few shelf mushrooms I want to put in my curio, and Id also like to start large glasspane shadowboxes full of pinned/identified mushrooms for the walls, with spring coming. Right now mine are in a ziplock in the freezer for the night, to kill any larave that might be nesting in them, but Id like to be prepared for what to do tomorrow when I take them out.
I was going to just take them out and let them air dry, but i dont know if there is a quicker method? Especially with shelf shrooms, they are so flipping big.

dreamcatcher
Feb. 16th, 2012 10:42 amHey guys, this is my first post here. I had a lot of spare bracelets and ribbons that I found recently, and I decided to make a dreamcatcher for my friend from inpatient treatment. I'm going to mail it today, and just wanted to share with you all! (although it's not very good!) I hope you like :)

Preserving teeth?
Aug. 12th, 2009 10:42 amI have a teething puppy right now, and I've managed to save two of her baby canines. I was thinking about using them to make matching pendants for me and my boyfriend. Does anyone have any advice on what (if anything) I need to do to preserve them? Also, if anyone has ideas on jewelry... the teeth are pretty tiny, about 1/4 of an inch long.
