Hey Craftgrrls (and guys!). I'm a long time community lurker but this is my first post.

Basically, my boyfriend is a huge fan of the game Darksouls. He's a big fan of the character Sif; a large wolf who eternally guards his master's tomb and carries a large sword with him.

My boyfriend has a dog (an American Eskimo) and has said before he'd like to have a plush sword toy for her to play with so he can take pictures of her as Sif.

Now, I'm not amazing at sewing (I'm really new to it), and I'd be hand sewing the project, but I'd like to try to make one. I've made flat teddy bears before, so I figure something basic like that would be okay. I've done some searching for inspiration and haven't been able to find any patterns for plush swords that I've really liked. Could anybody point me in the direction of sewing resources that could help me get on my way?

I figure I won't be able to do the different patterns on the handle of the sword, but if I could get the basic shape of the sword itself, I'd be super happy. And of course, I'll post the finished product here!

I said I wouldn't dress up my pets, but I couldn't resist. I mean really, what's cuter than a cat in a sweater? Plus, if it snows this winter my cat can keep warm and will be able to stay outside longer.

Anyhow, I found this great dusty rose colored yarn at a thrift store. I have no idea what its composition is, but I'm guessing that it's all acrylic or an acrylic blend. I got the pattern here <http://fashion.velvetkerfuffle.net/?p=738>

This is my first attempt and I did make an error. I accidentally added a couple of stitches just as I was starting the body (pattern starts at the ribbed turtle neck). The result was a dome effect which sits right at the base of the neck. On the bright side, if my cat ever develops a hunchback she can still wear her sweater!

Meet the Elphies:

Elphie is a 4 year old toy poodle that we adopted from a rescue organization about 5 months ago. I have totally fallen in love with her (she is so super sweet, even though she has had a tough life and a difficult beginning in our household), and last night I suddenly got the idea to make myself an Elphie pendant. As I usually do with new design ideas, I used copper wire before recreating the final piece in sterling (which I will eventually oxidize to match Elphie's gray fur). The stones here are carnelian and black spinel. I like the faceted spinel for the nose because it looks wet. When I make this in silver, I'm going to use smooth round and slightly smaller black beads. I'm also going to make her ears a little shorter:

Better pictures of pendant, and Miss Elphaba's wire wrapped broomstick, behind the cut )

I'm pretty happy with the way this piece turned out, but not so happy with the quality of pictures I was able to get of it with Elphie. This is because whenever my hands go anywhere near her (which I have to do to take her picture) she must lick them or be pet by them while wiggling in delight. It took about 30 tries, but I finally got one only relatively blurry. :)

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I've posted (and crafted, to be honest!) but I'm super excited about these little kitty brooches I've been making and I wanted to share. I'm going to start making more in smaller sizes to put on necklaces and hair barrettes. All of these are destined to have pin-backs glued onto them.
I'm still learning how to use polymer clay and am considering making a mold for these guys but I kind of like how they're all perfectly unique. What do you think? Should I do a mold?

Oh! And if you're into blogs, check out mine: http://tigerdogfarts.blogspot.com! It's more about books and movies  and outfits lately than crafts but you might be into that!:

Bzzz.

My dog really wants to be a bumble bee for Halloween. She told me. The problem with premade dog costumes is that they're a little pricey and that they never fit just perfectly. This results in my dog ripping them off and carrying them to some secret location in an attempt to eat them.

So I designed her very own bee costume.

Come take a look! )

I love Halloween, and I'm feeling a little giving. I think everyone deserves a fun Halloween costume, so I wrote a little tutorial (complete with illustrations drawn on paintbrush!) on how to alter my basic design so it fits your furry friend flawlessly.

I have a cat that doesn't like going out in wet weather, which means pretty much the whole next six months. He really wants to play, but most things I do fail to amuse. What's your best cat toy design to keep this emo kitty happy until spring? 'Cause if he isn't happy, he'll tell me about it constantly.
