ok. so.. like 5 years ago.. in some teen magazine, there was a diy project idea where you took clear glass plates.. like the really cheap type wiht no decoration on them, and you painted or collaged things onto the back..
i was thinking about making some of these but i have a couple of questions. well all the questions really..
first off, does anyone have any idea of where i could get some of these clear glass plates for cheap?
second, i just want to basically decoupage some stuff to the back of the plate.. but what type of material do you think would be good to use? something that wouldn't yellow, and is dishwasher/microwave (i'de settle for just dishwasher) safe...

and umm.. if i use paints on it, would they have to be glass paints?

i think that's it. let me know if you have any ideas about any of this
thanks!

Maybe a little bit off subject, but...

Im working on a christmas card project involing burned cd's.

Ideally, I'd like to put together 10-15 tracks of "nontraditional" Christmas song covers, and package the cd in collaged and painted AOL tins, to be mailed out as christmas cards. I am encountering some problems though...

- Im having a hard time finding enough AOL tins, so I'd like some kind of alternate packaging the fall back on. Anyone have any ideas? I need something protective, because the cd's will not include jewel cases. I really dont want to have to resort to just sticking the cd's inside a christmas card.

- And also, does anyone have any songs to recommend? Im looking for an extremely varied mix! Just to give you an idea of what I have in mind, songs in the running so far inlcude:

The Waitresses- Christmas Wrapping
Vanilla Ice- Ice, Ice, Baby
Beck- Little Drum Machine Boy
Blink 182- Christmas Song
Everclear- Hating you for Christmas
John lennon- So this is Christmas
Phantom planet- Winter Wonderland
No doubt- Oi to the World
Run DMC- Christmas in Hollis

Im thinking very GAP commercial, music wise. All input is GREATLY appreciated!

Ok, you all are going to think I am stupid but the recipe I got from Marthastewart.com for lip balm just sounds hard to do. Is it fairly easy to make your own lip balm/gloss and soap? Any one have a good recipe that they know works? I totally bow down to those who can make those wonderful things.
thanks :)

Ok, I have 2 questions:

1> Does anyone know a good place to purchase.....blank pottery forms? (Like the kind used at those paint your own pottery places, I don't really know what they're called.)

2> A question of ethics: Is it ok to collage something (where you're using found pictures *someone else's work*) and then sell it?

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who responded to my lip balm question. As soon as I get some money, i will try all your ideas and then tell ya how they turned out :)
Thanks again!

What inks/papers won't bleed? I want to print out some pictures and decoupage them onto boxes and whatnot, but the last time I tried that it ended disastrously because the ink bled all over. How can I stop this from happening?

I am so happy.
I just went and ordered a beading loom today. Well one that is big enough to make bracelets and necklaces that is. I use to make bracelets out of them at my grandpa's house and they took forever to do. I have one that i made out of my name and it is in my scrap book.
Anyways my question is, for christmas I am attempting to make people around me gift baskets and such as I do not have too much money and what I do have, I want to spend on my nephews. So I got some recipes for soaps and lip balms and such. I am going ot buy most of the stuff to make stuff on Friday.
What is a good price to pay for 2 pounds of clear glycerin soap?
What do I use to dye the clear soap? I thought if I used liquid food coloring, that it would dye your hands when you washed them.
Also does anyone know of any cool beading loom pattern sites?
And several people I know already are interested in having me make them a necklace/bracelet out of the beading loom thing. What is a good price to charge?
How does everyone tie off the ends of the bracelets?

Oh yeah and as for the crocheting thing...lol...I am left handed and all the books show it right-handed so I basically taught myself wrong. I went to my moms house and was like *what am I doing wrong?* she told me that I was basically crocheting backwards...I laughed...but apparently it was coming out fine. She showed me how to hook the second and third rows. I was only hooking it through one loop instead of two (make sense to anyone???) but I felt so great when I finally realized how to crochet. It was pretty awesome, I was excited.

Does anyone know what THIS )is?
I found it in a box of craft supplies from a yard sale.
It says "STUDIO TWELVE" and "FLOWER LOOM" on the frond and the pegs are numbered but I clearly don't get it. Can anyone identify my gnu toy and tell me how to use it/where to find instructions?

I even have some yarn to try it if only I had a clue!

Is anyone into making these

I am. I am thinking about making some and selling them. I charge three bucks for one, and I grided and mastered a skull to perfection. My own design of coarse.

How does one use contact paper and how much does it go for?

I am thinking of making dia de los muertos wooden box soon. I have an awesome post card of Frida Kahlo and I think I will use that. Also this store that is located in my town sells el lucha libre gift wrap! So I might just slap that puppy on a box.
Thank you so much to the people who showed their boxes. I really love the religous inspired one I saw recently and the one [personal profile] savestheday did. Atleast I think it was her.
And also, for anyone who corchets small bags, how much do you sell them for? People are on my nuts and I need a fair price. Fair meaning, good for me and good for them.
Thanks girls!
