I worked really hard tonight! I finished one of my boyfriend's birthday presents. Zach loves Kobun. In America, he's known as "Serv-Bot" if he's known at all. He's this funny little robot assistant guy in an arcade game. Zach laments the fact that you can't get much Kobun stuff at ALL in the States. He found this shirt (below) on some site and went ballistic. He wanted it so much! So, what do I do? I made one. Man, I'm such a good girlfriend. Hee.

The shirt I made.

A few more images )

I'm really pleased with it. The shirt is a bit darker than it appears in the photos. I haven't decided whether or not to write "Kobun's: something strange" underneath it but my sore back tells me I'm done for the night. It took several layers of paint to get it looking solid, since I was working on a dark fabric. I had to do two to three coats of white before I even began the colours. I'm super-happy though. I want his birthday to HURRY UP now, since it's hard for me to keep secrets.

Tomorrow I'm going to my friend Kate's house to make the giant Scrabble tiles so we can play on our rug. We have a rug with the board game on it, see, but no tiles to fit. I'm making him a full set of 3.5" tiles and using Kate's dremmel to carve out the letters and point values. One hundred letters. And four holders, if I have time. Phew.

I have to some how manage to get my entire family (all four of them) Christmas presents under a $30 budget. Any suggestions on how I go about doing this? I will be shopping for my mom, my step dad (I'll just get him a screwdriver or a hammer or something like that), and my little brothers (who play with video games, exclusively). I was thinking of making something, but my mom would only get on my case if I did that. So, please, help me out!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the community. Thought I would share some good news I just heard. Ben Franklin Crafts will be having 50% off the entire store Friday the 29th from 7:00am to 10:00am. Might be a good time to stock up on supplies! Have fun!

I found the most wonderful 1 1/4 inch wide glass marbles that I want to use to make some magnets. The problem is, they've got that reflective aurora borealis finish on them, which makes it tough to see through them in a lot of lights.

Anyone know a way to get rid of the finish?

I'm making bookmarks! Crocheted, with ribbon down the center.

Detailed look:

I rock...I am so in love with this.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the ends of the ribbons from fraying?

I got the pattern here. She has so many cool patterns.

problems: i'm a poor college with a tendency to jump from project to project. i've never ever sewn anything. this makes me leery of spending a few hundred dollars on a sewing machine that i may or may not use for more than two weeks.

questions: should i buy one of the cheap little sewing machines first, or are those basically just crap? i've seen one called 'easy sew', and joann's has the 'white sew cute mini-size' for $40 ($20 with coupon). would they be adequate for making skirts and bags, etc., or should i go ahead and buy a more expensive one? any other advice?? help me, please...

Cold!

So I shaved my head on Monday, and it's very, very cold out. As I'm broke and have no way to buy a hat, I'm going to knit one. But I'm a pretty crappy knitter. I need a really easy pattern that doesn't require circular needles or DPNs, but I can't find anything anywhere. Can anyone help me before I freeze to death?
