whenever i print an image onto a shirt, the print ends up looking faded. am i not pressing hard enough?
and when you use photographic emulsion to print, can you use regular transparencies?

... and anyone have any tips on washing ink off a screen? even though i wash the screen right after i print, some of the ink never washes off.

Hi everyone,

Still working diligently on my show...and I just finished a goose egg I have planned as an ornament. Now most of my ornaments have a definite front and back, but this design lends itself in many ways...I'm confused as to how to situate the finding. Which do you like better as the front??

View One or.....

View Two

Normally, view one is seen as the focal point, but I truly like the side as well...opinions??

Molded some more glycerin soaps last night. I found some little bundt-like tins at Value Village for $1.50--they have some really nice designs and shapes for soap. Went on an easter egg hunt for food coloring--four stores don't carry it. Frustration galore! So, I used honey, paprika, and cloves to color the glycerin. I also used dry milk, but it sort of speckled throughout the glycerin instead of making a creamy shade. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I have discovered that adding a teaspoon of honey cuts through the chemically glycerin smell. Maybe more expensive glycerin doesn't have an odor?

Will get some essential oils to scent more soaps this weekend. I'm getting cookie cutters from my mom--old fashioned ones I used as a child--to start making holiday presents for friends and family.

Wrapped the soaps I made last night individually in Saran Wrap, then bagged it in a scrap piece of cloth, tied the ends with yarn and voila! A nice hostess gift for our friends who are cooking Turkey today.

Here's another one I just finished up. Do you see the pattern? This is simply the outer egg shell, with layers removed. No dye, or varnish or anything. Just texture.

PIC HERE

Go to UGS and order yourself a fine or medium traditional kistka (like 1.75) and a cake of beeswax (75 cents or so). Place the tool tip in a candle flame to heat it, scoop up some wax, and write on a normal egg. Squiggles, stars, whatever..continuing to heat as you go. Place the whole egg in a solution of 4 parts water to 1 part "The Works Tub and Shower Cleaner" and watch as the egg starts to fizz. Every once in a while take it out and scrub with a soft toothbrush. When you can "feel" that the waxed parts are definitely raised, rinse off, dry, and put in mineral spirits to remove the wax.

Blow the egg out, attach a finding and VOILA! Cheap, and fun!

Help!

I'm painting a mural on the windows at my preschool... my problem is that the green paint peels after it dries. (Why only green, I do not know.) I'm using tempera, as that's what we have on hand. Does anyone know of something I can mix with the tempera to make it stick better? Or is there some other kind of paint that I should be using (& that won't take a chisel to remove.) Thanks!

the funny hat I made last year that is not only huge and floppy, but has a little hole for my bun to go through.

two more shots of it )

I made the scarf... ) last year with this beautiful yarn I got @ a knitting shop in Cape Cod - a skein of it made a scarf. It's a little short for my taste, but really thick and warm and colorful + plus it matches my olive green cord pea coat.

Hey all I just have a quick question. I hope it hasn't been asked before. I want to make some popcorn strings for X-mas decos.. Will microwave popcorn work? Or should I try and find an air popper?

ok, so i've been watching everyone talk about knitting and crocheting and the like, and i figured i might as well try that out, i love scarfs and hats and things like that, and im pretty crafty i suppose

so i went through many days worth of entires, but now where did i see anyone mention a website or book or something that would help me start knitting...someone posted a link to make a ribbed hat which i absolutely loved, and wanted to make for my friend for christmas, but i would need to know how to knit in order to do that...i figure i have a month which should be enough right? so if anyone has a link to an older post where this info was, or just a source that i can use, it would be mcuh appreciated!

and while im asking questions, how about yarn types...i have incredibly sensitive skin, and i'm mildly allergic to wool, which also poses a problem with acrylic, which attacks my skin in the same way....do they make yarns that aren't of these consistencies and arent crazy expensive, or should i just give up on making things for myself (before i even start)

I went to Michaels yesterday and got all this stuff!!!!
Glass bowls were on sale so I got a lot of those, and mixed glue and water together and "decopauged" (oh god that was wayyy spelled wrong lol) tissue paper to them. I got the decorated tissue paper which had gold stars and different things on a white background, and another one with all these cute little lady bugs and such. Put a tea=light in them when you're done and its a totally cute and cheap x=mas present :)

as stupid as this sounds, i'm going to ask anyway. does anyone know if there is a site where i can print out a free pattern to make a stuffed alien? my best friend, a junior in high school, has his heart set on a blue stuffed alien like the one in the sony commerical (which i haven't seen, not that it matters). i've looked everywhere for one and can't find any. or better yet, if anyone knows where i can get one or is willing to make me one at a reasonable price, PLEASE say so.
