I found a nice pattern on how to knit a beanie and balaclava, however can someone help me interpret it? I am having trouble finding out what "rib" is. Thanks!

I've been trying (desperately) to find a 1/2 inch paper punch. i remember reading this would make my marble magnet/push pin making MUCH easier, and i believe it! However, I can't seem to find a 1/2 inch paper punch. does anyone know where i can find one, preferrably online, as i've already searched the local wal-mart and craft stores? is it a 1/2 inch circular paper punch i need, or is there something else i shoulc be looking for?

thank you so much!

is there anyone in here who has a button press and makes buttons for other people?

i would like to make some anti-war buttons to give out to friends.

if anyone can help me out for a low price, let me know. i'm in ontario so hopefully someone nearby has a button press so postage is less.

thank you.

ok so i need to get something off of my chest..

recently someone posted that they apparently didn't like how the community was being run and they implied i was being a "fascist." [click here to see this post]

let me just explain something. i don't like being called a fascist.

i mean, sorry if i came across too strong in the condition/rules section in the user info. apparently some people did not like that i had written i would kick people out or delete posts if i saw fit.
maybe i will re-type that. i really just typed the rules up in haste after i found out i was the moderator, i was just super excited. also, forums like this need rules.

PLUS...there are a lot of repeat posts and sometimes people get really pissed off by that. when i said i would delete posts/kick people out i mainly meant these pissy people who cuss out new members because they ask repeat questions.

and to avoid that scenario altogether i've been busting my ass to get this FAQ together.

this time of year is really stressful and i've been right in the middle of finals week...i've been cranky and tired...and doing this FAQ and organizing this community has been really keeping my spirits up/giving me something fun to do. [as lame as that sounds] so i really do not appreciate being called a "fascist" when i'm really trying to just do something good in an organized fashion.

i'm sorry about the rant but i thought i should just make that clear for everyone.

I haven't made these in a while, but my mom asked for some to give as Christmas presents. Here's what she'll be getting in the mail Monday:

Finally, I finished knitting my second mitten (after ripping it out twice because I though I could improve upon the pattern, but then figured out I couldn't). This hat and pair of mittens took almost exactly one hank of this yarn, which made it a pretty economical project, yarn-wise.

I used this hat pattern and this mitten pattern (I used 10.5 needles instead of 10, as that's what I had on hand. The size came out perfectly).

okay girls, I have a question. A while back I bought a bag of various kinds of ribbons. Some are white and light and pretty, and others are darker, like blue and purples. They are various shapes and sizes. The trouble is - I don't know what to do with them. I can't seem to think of anything to use them for.

any ideas?

Lastnight I made some chocolate raspberry dipped coffee spoons and they turned out so good!!! And they were very very easy to make.

Heres how I did it:

I got a Hersheys Symphony Bar and a few Hersheys Kisses and melted them with 5 Red Wilton Candy pieces.

Then I mixed in about a teaspoon of Vegetable Oil because the chocolate mixture gets a little weird when it melts and the oil kind of makes the chocolate creamy so you can dip the spoons.

Then I added 3 drops of Wilton Raspberry flavored candy flavoring.

I took my heavy duty plastic spoons and generously dipped them in the chocolate and layed them on a glass dish to dry (this was my mistake, I SHOULD have used wax paper).

Before they were dry I decorated them w/ Holiday Candy Sprinkles and I melted a few Green Wilton Candy pieces in a plastic bag and cut the tip off and made swirleys and all sorts of designs.

Anyways, this is a very easy project and it works well as a X-mas gift.

I found some really really cute coffee mugs at the dollar store, so I am going to put a few of the coffee spoons in a Holiday Cello bag and place them in the coffee mug.

Anyways, I just thought I would share...sorry I dont have a pic, but I dont have a digital camera :)

Hey craft-lovahs!

I learned to crochet last week and I can't stop! I made a giant scarf for myself, and on Tuesday I figured out how to make beanies (I'll post pictures soon). I'm making a whole bunch for my friends for x-mas, but the tops of the beanies look a little sad. This is where you talented kids come in.

How would I go about making a poof ball for the top? I'm pretty sure theres a gadget involved, and if so where would I get one for really really cheap?

I also love those kitty/bear ears. I've tried to crochet them, but my hook is big and they look silly, and I don't really want to go buy a whole new hook just for making ears. Would it work to sew some ears from a couple layers of those 22 cent felt sheets at Wal Mart and stitch them on?

Thanks in advance!

we're doing a Secret Santa gift exchange at work next week, and for Monday's gift i baked some oatmeal-walnut-chocolate-chip cookies. yum! the problem is, i have to drop off the gift tomorrow, where it'll sit in my boss' office until distribution Monday morning (i won't be at work next week for the gift exchange, so i won't be around Monday morning). i wrapped the cookies in blue saran wrap and put them in a cute Christmas tin. my question is, will the cookies (which are not really of the gooey-middle variety, but not the crispy hard kind either) keep 'til Monday? i'd hate for her to open the gift and find nasty stale cookies... not to mention that it would be *really* embarrassing.

thanks in advance for any help! i joined this community last week, and have already made some great things... even joined the bandwagon and made marble magnets.

hello everyone. i admit that i joined this community for purely selfish reasons. i searched through livejournal communities and settled on this one for my mission. please feel free to remove me if you disagree with my actions.

my mission is this: i would really like a pair of arm warmers. i have seen them for sale in various stores and internet shops, but the concern is that i have really skinny arms and cannot find any that fit properly. i have commissioned various friends to knit me a pair but it is always to no avail. i am too clumsy to knit myself. if anyone in this community would be willing to knit me a pair, i would be overjoyed (i'll pay for them, shipping and all, don't worry).

please comment if you're willing, or point me in a better direction for my quest! thank you.

I just whipped up a small batch of lavender bath salts from the receipe posted in the FAQ/Memories section.

I already had some dried lavender buds and lavender essential oil (using that in the P&M soaps), so this was super easy to put together.

I'm thinking that lavender soaps and salts will make a nice gift for some female relatives... I think I'll make a nice label for the salts praising the relaxing benefits of lavender scent. It always helps me relax and fall asleep.

(I'm not posting pics cos it's just a jar with salt and lavender buds. I might post a pic of the whole kit n'kaboodle when I'm done.)

Okay...here is what I want to do...
I love...let me repeat...LOVE...unusual things that light up. I found a strand of mini X-Mas lights at Michaels and thought that maybe I could use them in jewelry somehow. But then I figured that the battery would be too big to hide. After all, there were a lot of lights on that strand. I was actually thinking of somehow working led lights into something. I have this little earring/magnet thing that has two led lights in it, and they are really small. So does anyone know of a place to get little led lights that work on TINY batteries? Also, have you ever seen jewelry, such as necklaces, made with lights worked into them?
Yet another one of my crazy ideas...
