i bought some wonderful soap molds with asain characters on it for love, energy, tranquility and something else... can't remember off the top of my head. but anyways!
while half filled up i let them set for a bit, then i added marbles to the soap. that way, not only do they get cool clear soap with "power" characters on there that are nifty, but the marbles, once the soap is used down, will kind of act like a hand massager!
gawd diggity damn i come up with some nifty wild things! maybe tomorrow i'll tell you how i made a picture frame out of coke cans :D

Okay girls, I looked through this community’s memory links but found nothing about lip balm.
I'm looking for a really good recipe, doesn't have to be the easiest, for lip balm, and/or lip gloss.
Basically I don’t want it to just look pretty, I want it to be good for the lips: moisturizing, etc.

Anyone?

(ps. nothing with petroleum jelly -ie vaseline, thanks)

I decided to do a little road-side affirmation for friends as a little stocking stuffer. I'm typing out a personal message unique to each friend talking about how great they are or a funny quote and putting ribbon around it as well as that star garland stuff. The idea is for them to put it on their rear-view mirror in their car. So whenever they are stressed or blue, they have something happy and yay to look to (:

Sorry for cross-posting.

I just have to say that this community is by far the best I have joined in my (almost) two years of being on livejournal. I've become so crafty, my boyfriend gets jealous of my marble magnets. lol. You ladies post so many awesome ideas, I don't know what to do first.

so um yes. thank you. for all your fantastic input and comments and such.
maybe sometime I'll get to posting pictures of what I've made: soaps, sugar scrub, magnets (not too many I swear) and soon to come... lip balm.

;)

That I do not like Ready Made magazine. At all. Can you say "pretentious"?

However, it will make good fodder for marble magnets. Yes, I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

And the newest url I'm killing time at work with today is: www.make-stuff.com
It seems pretty big and well organized-I'll be perusing the holiday section for easy last minute ideas :)

Just thought you chickies might be interested.

in the same vein as the marble magnets, i created some magnet sets out of clay. i used a plastic cylinder to "punch out" little circles. then, i painted them with slips (clay with color in it) and fired them. then, i glazed some in clear, some in white (dependent on the design) and fired them again. now, they are ready to have magnets glued on the back!

Hi! I haven't posted here yet, but I've been hanging around for a couple days.

This year I was gonna make angel ornaments for all my horrible relations' Christmas trees (I have a really big family and no money) but I am moving on New Years and I just don't have the time. I managed to get one done though, for my own tree (the first one I've had on my own). Here are some progress pics.

Hi folks!

I was wondering... to go with a set of wine charms, I was thinking of making some wine bottle stoppers. I have plenty of ideas for what to put on top, but what I was trying to figure out is what sort/size of cork to use? Do you think the craft corks at Michael's would work? They seem so small and short...

Thanks!

I hope this is a good pattern. I don't really know as I am new to crocheting but I had one heck of a time getting it on here. LJ was being a jerkface. I hope someone besdies me can use this.

Gift Jars

Hello all, I've been reading this community for a while, and I have a ridiculous amount of projects lined up as a result. haha, thanks!

I haven't seen this addressed anywhere, sorry if I missed it:
Where do you get the jars for gift jars? I want to make cocoa and coffee mixes, but I don't know where to find mason or mason-like jars.

Also, because I'm so low on money this year, I'm baking cakes, pies, and cookies as well as giving the gift jars. How should I give these? I don't really want to loan out my dishes, because I have so few, and if one broke it would be a big deal.

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been checking this place out a bit. I've always wanted to be more crafty, and have never really had any cool ideas that have turned out... but hopefully I'll come up with lots more stuff to do here.

Oh, by the way, does anyone know how to make those cute french memo boards that have the criss-crossed ribbon that you can put pictures on and stuff? I want one for my desk at work and maybe one at home but can't ever seem to find one I like at the stores, if I can find them at all, and thought maybe I'd just make one myself.

Thanks!

i'm pretty sure this hasnt been asked before, so i shall ask it. i went to wal-mart and lewsicraft and both places the round thick magnets cost two or three dollars for a pack of four/six. i was planning on making 50-ish.
i got a pack of marbles which work great from a dollar store, so now i just need to find cheap magnets because theres no way i can afford those.

1) can you get them cheaper from anywhere else or should i just make marble tacks instead?
2) where can you get tacks that are big enough to fit the back of the marbles? i used a regular sized one for this and its a bit smaller.

thanks in advance ^_^

"this" is my first ever marble tack. yay. it actually says you? but the light is hiding the question mark.

I just joined (and I'm so very happy that [livejournal.com profile] razzberee sent me over here) and I'm all set to do my marble magnets, minus the glue...

I looked through all the FAC's on the marble magnets, but still I have a question. I couldn't find any silicone gel at my craft store, does anyone think that a glue gun would work? Any thoughts please?
[identity profile] nisie.livejournal.com
Two great hints that I've picked up.

First of all, AOL cds are wonderful for catching hot glue droppings. I can never find the pad I bought for that, and the CDs are so plentiful...

Second, you can recycle Christmas cards in a new way. Cut off the message and signature from the back of the card, position over a gift bag so that fold is over the very top. Staple front and back of the card and bag together in one staple. Now it adds a fun festive touch!

Now you can recycle the cards to put on top of the recycled bag to hold the recycled gift. :)

I do have one cousin who loves Avon, and the rest of the family hates it. We set a bag out under the tree and as we get Avon, we drop it in there. Her birthday is the 28th, so we can show up with a Christmas gift and a birthday gift she'll love.

So i was home again today from school, and i had all this leftover fleece from making kitty stockings, so i made legwarmers!!!!!!i'm so proude of myself! They're not exactly traditional leg warmers, not full oute 80's, but still quite enjoyable. They have elastic at the top, ande they're alternating red and green stripes. They're more like the bottom of pants, but still quite enjoyable. Not sure if my description really made much sense, wish i had a camera to show them off though.

Last night i made a purse too, it's pretty much unusable cuz the opening on top is really tiny, but i might use it to carry my yarn in for knitting, i'm very proud of it though, did the pattern free style, did a good job matching the stripes, making the straps, and sewing it all togeter, just damn that top.

i finally mod podged my very first aol tin cover.

check it:

it's SO ghetto and crappy looking.
i have to trim the edges and it all puckered.
anyone else have this problem?

in other news...
after my last post about the format of the FAQ/Memories Section it seemed like the general concensus was that topics only would be the best way to view each catagory in the FAQ.
so i've been going through and modifying the format so that each catagory only shows the topics/subject of what is in them...
[example of what this looks like/what i'm talking about]

so there you have it. i'm still working on it.
again, ladies who have volunteered, i'm gonna structure everything this weekend and let you all know/email what the deal is.

take care grrlies :)
[identity profile] rocketsareneat.livejournal.com
well, i figured it was time for me to post some of my little marble magnets too, hehe. so here:
these are my favorite, they were more of a pain to make too, since everything had to be cut out individually. but i thik they turned out uber-cool :)

Today for whatever reason my mom got boxes and boxes of candy apples in the mail. It came two to a box, each packaged in nice little foam sheets. Not styrofoam, the nice squishy soft kind. Now, being a watcher of craftgrrl, I decided to keep the foam pieces. Now I have determined myself to find a use or a project for them, and if anyone has an idea, it'd be very welcomed.

Been working for a few days on decorating holiday cards. I've been doing this sort of thing for a couple of years. The best images I've come up with so far are the most simplistic--lots of white space, graphical types of images. I used to only use stamps but now I'm using paper, ribbon, punches, and stamps. They're all pretty simple.

A quillow?

Dec. 11th, 2002 07:59 pm
[identity profile] pumpsnail.livejournal.com
Can anyone make sense of these instructions to make a quillow? (quilt/pillow) I'd like to make one but there are no pictures and the instructions sound like they were written out by a bored, drunk intern who just wanted to get the hell done with his work so he could go home ;)

Actually, I assume the instructions are meant to be used as a refresher for someone who has seen the episode where this project was originally made..and that's why it doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, from what I can tell, you sew a stack of fabric that is (from bottom to top) two pieces of 'quilt' fabric and one piece of batting on the top? Can most sewing machines handle all that without getting a) jammed (I know it's *thin* batting, but still) or b) tangled and messed up?

I think I can handle these instructions if I know how that one step is supposed to be done. :)

last night I made a fantastic tshirt..
I sewed a strip of velcro (the soft side) onto the front of the t-shirt, ironed some velour letters onto some thick felt and put the other side of the velcro on the back of the felt/letters.

pick a word - wear it.. throughout the day people change it up for you!

its like you've got a great party game with you everywhere you go!

I really can't get enough of it..

(I'm going to try for the picture.. cross your fingers)

I have been seeing some holiday garland/decorations that look like little mirrored squares glued together back to back with fishing wire in between. The end result is a shiny string of little mirrors. I have been looking for the little mirrors everywhere - the best I can find are ones that are 1 inch square at JoAnne's and Michael's which are somewhat too big. Does anyone have suggestions about where I might find them? I'd like to make some garland for my parent's christmas tree.
[identity profile] fabusplody.livejournal.com
i've been on several medications for about a year and my doctor gives them to me in sample packs, which has left me with a large collection of flimsy rectangular boxes. i came up with an idea that used a few in an art piece, but i still have tons. the small bottles were easy, i paint those with glass paint, cut off the bottom and attach them to string lights. i've also done this with those mini bar bottles.

so if anyone has any ideas about 3"x4" flimsy boxes, please let me know.

ok, at the risk of sounding like an evil philip-morris-endorsing type person, i have to say: in addition to aol tins and altoid tins, the "exotic blends" of camels come in these new tins that would be fun to decorate. i don't know if it's just a special promotion with the new blends being released, but as of now they're still being put out in those tins. i plan on decorating one as a cigarette holding tin for one of my smoker friends. dunhill's come in tins, too.
[identity profile] angelsbarbdwire.livejournal.com
hello hello. i have like. a brilliant idea. or maybe not hah.
i was just thinking can't those marbles be attached to pins and turned into buttons? i tried hot glueing a safety pin to a marble that i'd glued "radiohead" to. the safety pin just kinda fell off but if the glue had been hotter, or i'd used something else, or a different kind of pin..it would have worked i think.
comments/suggestions/anything?
