I know there are some skater/punk ladies around, so I decided to post this.
In place of shoelaces on my flat tops I used safety pins. The very top one has to be taken
out when I put them on, but otherwise they all stay firmly in place. I wouldn't try jogging
in them, but these shoes weren't meant for that kind of wear and tear anyway.

And I once saw a nifty pair of sneaks that had longs laces (ribbons?) so you could lace them up your legs like ballet slippers. I was thinking of maybe trying that as well. Maybe buying a pair of sneaks and covering them in some pretty fabric to make them look more slipper-ish. Hmm...

I decorated my old vans shoes with completly black sharpee marker. I feel to talented. They look like a million bucks. Well.. not a million but they do look worth something! Im going to get some big red laces to go with them. YAY. SO go decorate your old shoes!

my aunt received a homemade gift last year, and she asolutely loved it. in fact, she's making them this year.

you need:

1 glassjar/vase from the craft store
potpourri
string of xmas lights
meshy/lacy fabric
ribbon
decoration of your choice

fill the vase/jar with the potpourri and the lights, as if the lights are wrapped in and through the potpourri. the plug end of the lights needs to come out of the top with enough length that the jar can sit someplace and be plugged in. cover the top of the jar with the fabric, tying the ribbon around to secure. tie or glue bows, fake flowers, holly, whatever to the ribbon for beauty.

plug in.

the lights are beautiful in the potpourri and the slight heat emitted from the lights kicks the potpourri into gear, so your house smells lovely.

hi all~

the wonderful person teaching me and my son how to knit told me about this site, and it looks really interesting.

I am giving out bath baskets this year. I didn't have any containers for the bubble bath and went searching felt unless I was going to obtain the pleuthra of containers --- they were expensive.

So, I decided to wash out and dry some of those plasitc soda bottles (12 ozers) and paint over them.

What do you think?

A friend and I got together for a craft day yesterday. After spending three hours in a mall to find all of our supplies we finally had everything we needed. Who knew finding everything would be so hard?
Anyhow, the soap and lip balm went great. However, our (first ever) attempt at making candles did not. The wax around the wick concaved and created a rather large valley in the center.

My question is for all of those who have experience making candles, why did this happen and what can we do to prevent it when we make candles again?

Thanks!

My heater's broke, it's quite fitting I'm working on crocheted snowflake suncatcher ornament thingies!

This is my first (well not my first snowflake, this is like the kajillionth!)..the pattern calls for stiffening and I thought I could get away with not doing it..but I found out that stiffening the crochet would help keep it exactly situated in the ring the way it should be. It tends to want to slide..and I'd really like the picots to be open.

But here she is! I'm gonna make a rainbow one too :)

Does anyone know what is good to draw on felt with that wont show through the other side? I was cutting out shapes earlier, and I had to use a sharpie to draw them first, but it showed through the other side...

I also just finished up a crocheted wool beanie for my husband...my 4 yr old is the model extraordinare...

* The marble magnets are great... anyone have a good idea on how to package them?

* I want cucumber/melon scent for my bath salts... anyone have .02 about this?

I just had a neat idea that I'm going to do for my mom for Christmas. I bought a sheet of nice stamps - in this case, the bat stamps. I spray painted an AOL tin black, and I am going to line it with black felt and decopauge a bat photo onto the cover of the tin, and include the coordinating bat stamps inside. USPS has such pretty stamps these days, you can find something to interest almost anyone. You could do the ASPCA puppies and kittens, the romantic hearts, or even a patriotic theme. I thought it would be a more "finished" gift than just the empty tin.

Also, several people have asked where to get tiny pictures for the marble magnets. AC Moore (and other places, I'm sure) sells tiny little books of Sanrio (Hello Kitty) stickers. I bought a few books and stuck them onto plain copier paper and then punched them out with my 1/2" punch - they are a great size to use! I'm sure you could do the same thing with other small stickers. :)

I was just wondering what you all are making for Christmas presents. This is just kinda a general post. I just want to know what you made, how you made it, and I would love to see pictures if you have some. For me, I made bath salts, and ornaments for family xmas gifts. I just want some ideas for next year. You all would help me greatly if you could post what you made, how you do it and your pictures. Thanks!

I'm making some really simple Christmas blankets for the families on my father's side. I have cotton Christmas print fabric, poly batting (by the yard), and red fleece for the backs.

What I'm wondering is, what's the best way to put it all together? I was thinking of just cheating the batting and fleece about 1/2 an inch and just hemming the print over the back. I also considered blanket binding, but I'm making 6 2-yard blankets, so that option is far too expensive.

Anybody have any cute and creative ideas to finish off the edges a little nicer?

I really hope this isn't out of line, but I just created the [livejournal.com profile] marble_madness community - a place to post pictures of our marble magnets (and pins and coasters), as well as discuss supplies, where to get them, and the best ways to use them. Photos of your marble projects are welcome and encouraged.

Once the community gets a decent amount of members, I thought it would be fun to organise an ongoing swap! If you're interested in such a project, please join! :)

I added three new pieces to my Jewelry page. One of the three (a Pooh bear necklace) did not want to cooperate on the scanner, so I am skipping it in this post but it is on the jewelry page if anyone wants to see it. Again, if my pictures are not modem friendly, I apologize. I try to get the best pics I can but also try to make them semi small... still it's hard for me to guess about how long it will take to download the images - hence the cut tag.

Two new chainmail pieces )

I have decided that I need to be rich, so that I could afford to send some jewelry to everyone who likes it. Someone send me the winning lottery numbers *smirk*

i'm thinking of making some coasters out of extra cds, and putting them in aol tins. has anyone ever painted onto cds? can i use regular acrylic paint or will it just peel off?

thanks!

I have just finished making 15 mini-jars (single serving) of hot chocolate mix with marshmallows. I used a recipe that someone posted here - basically it's 2 parts each of sugar, nondairy creamer, and dry milk and one part cocoa. I made extra and tried a cup; it was delicious!

I'm impressed - even having to buy the mini-jars, I only ended up spending about $10 on this. I'm going to bake a huge batch of shortbread next week, so each person who gets a mini-jar of hot chocolate will get a few cookies to eat with the chocolate.

I'm now making up tags that explain the ratio of water-to-mix that one needs to drink the cocoa...however, my printer is broken and so I have to do them all by hand, and my handwriting is atrocious. I hope I don't crack after writing the same exact thing 15 times over.

Although, it could be worse. I could have made a double batch. :)

One wall in my room is completely black. It's one huge giant blackboard! It's so cool, you can write TO DO lists and quotes or poems and stuff. Or maybe draw a calendar each month and write little notes about the days. It's so much fun, I love it.

You just take a couple cans of Chalkboard spray paint and start. However, I'd suggest covering everything over with sheets because the paint dust gets EVERYWHERE.

Also, You'll have to put really wide cutting-in tape on the other walls, maybe eight inches wide. Because spray paint has wide range. Unless you want it on the walls and ceiling that is. . .

The cans also had some more directions other than just spraying so that it had a chalkboardy texture, but I skipped that and it's just fine.

The Chalkboard AOL tin reminded me that my wall wasn't normal.

Another storage type idea I had was gladware. I think I saw it an a magazine. You put screws in each of the four corners on the bottom and screw it in. I use it to hold my chalk.

Mod podge question -

I know that mod podging polaroids won't work because they're so thick, but what about ordinary photographs? Will a strange surface evolve from that? I just want to put it on regular paper about the thickness of about two loose-leaf notebook sheets.
[identity profile] pulltrigger.livejournal.com
i have a pair of docs that i want to paint. does anybody have any suggestions on how i should go about doing this?

and i know someone asked about this, what about making a decoupage them?
[identity profile] pancakex.livejournal.com
Hey folks,

Lately people have been wondering what to put their crafty bits in. Well, I was at Home Depot today, and noticed these in the painting aisle (with paint brushes and rollers). They're only $1.25.

They are obviously made for holding paint - they're lined on the inside and the lid fits on relatively tightly. But they'd be great for putting together a bunch of little things, or making a pencil holder, or whatever else you can think of using them for. They're nice and shiny alone, too, so you don't really have to do much to make them presentable. Easy + cheap = good. (They're about 6" tall or so, and 4" in diameter.)

well i re-added this community to my friends list today. and it gave me a bunch of inspiration!
i made one of those little post-it note mini notebooks, and i made some coasters with some crayons. i'm not done with them yet, i have to get something to go over the top of the crayons.
tomorrow my boyfriend is going to take me to michael's and i am going to buy some stuff and maybe get some stuff to try making some soaps/lip glosses/other things like that and i want to try this ever-so-popular marble magnet thing. :)
also, i'll have batteries for my camera tomrrow so expect pics in the near future. :) oh, yeah..thanks for the inspiration. i haven't done anything creative in awhile and this community really inspired me to do so..heheh.
[identity profile] swandieve.livejournal.com
I looked in the memories for origami, but I could only find where to buy paper. I know how to make a star and a crane, but that's it. Oh, and a paper aeroplane. But does anyone know a site for making more things? I read about strawberries, and I'd like to see how that's pulled off.

Oh, please. There.
[identity profile] gotobed.livejournal.com
hey, i have a mild addiction to seeing how other people design their bedrooms..i like to get ideas from people. anybody else like that?

i used to run a crafty-ish site, and stumbled upon summer's bedroom, it was fabulous. if you have any pictures of your bedroom, link them here!

and...most importantly, any web sites out there that show bedroom decorating/redesign? (not professional commercial sites).
[identity profile] reliefsketch.livejournal.com
Hi! I'm new here...I guess I'm just intruducing myself to the community!

Sent out this order along with one other, some nice girl out there has made my day!!

Anyone out there craving a new bag? =P

I needed a quick christmas gift, and i have seven thousand marbles laying around so i took a cheap ornament off my tree and a few minutes later

pic )

some thoughts.

--i worked in symmetrical pattern, so i knew i wouldnt have any sections looking all funky an uneven.
--i used silicone, next time i make one i'd use super glue gel because i want it to stick and be done with it.
--i'd like to see how they look on a shiny silver ball (i used a frosted silver ball because that all i had)
--i wanna try them with different colored marbles as well to see what different effects i could get.
--it's REALLY heavy, i ended up bending the prongs on the holder so they catch on the inside and gluing the cap on

:)

Oh, and this is my first post, hello everyone :)
[identity profile] dirtypinkskirt.livejournal.com
Do they sell shaped glass jars at Michael's? Or at any other major craft store for that matter. I assume heart shaped glass jars are easy to come by, but i am hoping for a moon or star glass jar. I've never been to Michael's, but I will surely make the trip if they have these..
[identity profile] spastictoast.livejournal.com
i bought the coolest thing today.

and it was only eight dollars! hooray walmart!
[identity profile] believe-in-me.livejournal.com
Does anyone know if there is a community on LJ where you sell your crafts and things?
=o)

I made my first batch of marble magnets tonight, using clear silicone and pictures cut from fliers, magazines and stickers. I think they turned out pretty well!

See? )
