Hello ladies-n-gents! I'm going to post better pics as soon as I get 'em but this is what I "crafted" out of some foam, an old water gun and housepaint. If you're squeamish you may not like this but I think it's a HOOT.

Check it out>> )

ENJOY!

i think someone posted here about paint that once dry acts like a chalkboard that can be drawn or written on with chalk. does anyone know anything about this or where to get it? thanks.

My friend (whose dad is a priest) got me a *cassock* for Christmas, because she knows I like really bizarre clothes. If you don't know what a cassock looks like, check here (ignore the semi stunted-looking goth guy who's modeling it). Anyway, on mine, the buttons are black but the paint is chipping and coming off and you can see the metal underneath. What would be the best way to re-paint the buttons?

I would assume I could paint the buttons with some sort of primer and then just paint over with black acrylic paint, but I would guess that using that method wouldn't make the buttons very durable and I'd probably have to scrape off all the black paint that's still on there before painting over the metal, which I'd like to avoid if possible.

this looks promising, but I've never tried it and don't know how well it would actually work.

i was wondering, does anyone have any tips on putting objects in soap? i tryed being a soap crafter for the first time last night, man alive i am terrible at it. i was so jazzed on making christmas presents this year, and everything seems to have been this miserable psuedo-failure that had enough of a result for me to still give what i made out as presents and yet for everyone to say "goddamn sarah lily, you really suck". well...i tryed. i suppose everything just takes a lot of practice. and that is what i shall do, i just wanted some tips from all you experienced, talented soap crafters. thanks!

sarah lily xo!

i followed a link to inside painted glass ornaments.
i was going over the idea with my roommate who mentioned to me that i still have a lot of glass paint, so i am going to use that instead. i'll take pictures at different phases, but i bet they'll take forever to dry inside those glass balls.

I just made Eric the coolest thing! I bought an old, cool, but scratched-up record from the Salivation Army, drilled out the hole a little and installed a clock mechanism and hands. Then I painted some little wooden numbers gold to match the hands and glued them on the vinyl. I suppose this is SO last year (or something), but I've never heard of it - I thunk it up all by myself :-) (I'd post a pic, but I don't have a digital camera).

I was digging through my old images on the computer and found my projects from last years christmas, clothespin dolls!

Raggedy Ann is jointed, as well as Isaac and Joanne which are done in the likeness of my brother and sis in law.

The super heroes are single pins painted and sealed with Future Floor acrylic, as well as raggedy ann who is a little more labor intensive but still quick and easy. Great stocking stuffers! I actually got orders from a bunch of teachers when these were brought to school in handmade drawstring bags.

I also made a Steve from Blues Clues, and a Blue made out of a wooden egg.

Soooo fun! I need to make more!

I just received very sad news. Nikki Lee Atwell died Oct 8th 2002 in a car crash and her family contacted me because she had my address. I didn't know her well, we had just made some exchanges and now I'd like to ask if anyone here knew her and what they can tell about her. Also what was her LJ nickname and webpage URL?

Another project down. I'm super-duper proud of this one, because I used a skill that...well...I don't have.

This is the kitty hat I own. It's made by Emily (www.emilystrange.com) and Zach loves it. He wears it all the time. Hell, when he went to Florida last November (without me), he wore it there every day. It's in his pictures on the rides at Disney World.

I decided to make a mouse hat for him.

I completely hand-sewed the entire freaking thing. The mouse hat is a little pointy on top, which I might fix later. I only did four segments instead of six which contributes to the pointiness, but I had to make it as easy on myself as possible since I don't have a sewing machine. The brim is double-thick and the whole thing is made out of Polartec 200 fleece. The ears are pink, if you can't tell, and black on the back. I folded them in a little bit to give them interest and I quite like it. All in all, I worked off the kitty hat as a model and the construction of the mouse hat is almost identical. I am feeling like a mega-stud.

Kitty and Mousie side by side.

So, I'm feeling like a big stallion today. Next up, I'm working on a combo platter of Derek's present (a cover for the backseat of his VW bus -- painted with the logo, of course) which I'll intersperse with Zach's big present (a woodburned Scrabble table). I'm a Christmas gift making machine, yo!

my latest project has been a sorta pocket shrine to alices adventures in wonderland and made as part of my best friends christmas present. im rather pleased with how it turned out but i still think it needs something but i cant for the life of me figure out what.

made from an altoid tin decoupaged with tea stayed computer print outs of alice illustrations. small rhinestones. stickers. confetti. one glass marble (but its not a magnent!) and some interesting silver charms i found.

I thought of doing some pocket shrines, and wanted to see everyone else's shrines for some inspiration. I am just wondering what you used for the outside "shrine holder/container" and what you put on the inside. Thanks so much for helping me out! Post pictures also if you can - pictures are excellent : )

Has anyone ever used one of these? It's basically a tube with four pegs at the top (apparently you can make these out of old spools of thread and four nails) and you use it to make a bizarre yet really quite cool...tube thing of yarn. The resulting tube can be made into (weird) hats, or coasters, or pot holders, or rugs, and stuff like that. I had one but I never made anything with it. Just wondering if anyone else had..

Also! I am planning to make a skirt out of ties! I wish I had a picture of where I got this idea, but alas, I found the idea in a book my sister has and she doesn't want me to scan it because I'd break the binding. Basically, picture, uh...a lot of ties shaped into a skirt, rofl. Does anyone have advice on a) how to make a waistband (I'm thinking I'll sew elastic around the inside or something) or b) how to make an inner lining?

Also *also*: I'm finally teaching myself how to knit. I am making one of those "skinny scarves" that will be uber-popular in a few months (Delia*s has been advertising them; and anything Delia*s sells becomes instantly popular) and so far, it's been pretty easy. I just need to get my tension a bit more even. And if I have any questions, I know where to look :) So wish me luck! :)

But yeah, comment if you've ever used a knitting Nellie. :)

If anyone's interested, I looked around a bit and noticed that there wasn't a soapcrafting community for those of us that make melt & pour soaps, so I started one. (If there was one and I missed it, I apologize!)
