did anyone have those clear seed beads? But they had a color (I have purple) shot into the middle?... (sorry if this is confusing) okay, most beads are colored glass, but I got these kind with the color on the inside, and the clear on the outside... and now, the needle can't get through cause it's such a tight squeeze inside the bead!... does anyone else have this problem?
I have a bag of them that I've already opened, so I can't return them, but I don't wanna just not use it becuase I spent money on it, and the color isn't really that bad...
okay, I'm really sorry if that was confusing! =/

Oh man I'm so stoked. Finally, FINALLY I understand how to crochet. Thanks a million to those of you who tried to help me out a while back. I really just needed an actual person right in front of me saying, "do it this way." I went to Michaels and paid $10 for a class. Man, cheap! A lot of the other yarn-specialty stores were charging $30 and up. I paid ten, and got two hours one-on-one with the cutest little old German lady you ever did see. She helped me out and I finished my first-ever-scarf. Yeaaaaaaah! I'm already halfway done with my second one (I worked on it in bed this morning while The Monster was sacked out next to me) and it's going so quickly I can hardly believe it.

Anyway, since scarf pictures are nothing new, I'll put the other two behind the cut. I used Lion brand Thick and Quick Chenille in the dark green. My next scarf is using the claret colour. If I finish the red one, I'll give it to my friend Emily. If not, she gets this slightly gimpy green one. It has charm.

Hi everyone. Would anyone like to trade me just about anything for a skein of rainbow-colored variegated (sp?) yarn or 1/2 a yard of camouflage fabric?
pictures and more details; 56k go get a cup of coffee while you wait )

Also, here's a picture of a crafty project I did over the summer.

This sounds so neat. I remember having a few of these that I kept in my dresser drawers to keep my clothes smelling nice. Now I can make them.

Fragrance Stones

1-1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup salt
1/4 tsp. cornstarch
2/3 cup boiling water
1 tbls. fragrance oil
Colorant of your choice

Mix all dry ingredients. Heat water in a Pyrex cup in the microwave or on the stove. Add the f/o and the color to the water. Stir water mixture into flour mixture. Mix as best you can and then knead the dough with your hands. At this point you just want it to look like pie or cookie dough. Roll it out about a quarter of an inch thick. Cut into shapes or use cookie cutters. Another option is to stamp the flat shapes. Let the dough stones dry. They get hard as rocks and will last for months.

Yay! I finally finished them! I'm so excited about these that I have to share. I made some paper dolls of my boyfriend for Christmas and I think they're pretty fun. I just used MS Paint to create them and am going to go print them out on cardstock at Kinkos in a minute. I'm most proud of his plaid pyjama pants, but all of those clothes are actual things he owns (down to the Namor the Cursed tee-shirt). I'll be drawing the tabs on after printing, because it was too much of a hassle to do them on the computer and I'm in a rush. Without further ado...

Has anyone seen those informercials for those little handheld sewing machines they'ew selling for like $19.95 through infomercials and Wal-mart, etc?
I'm pretty bad at sewing, don't have a regular machine and am very tempted to get this to make all the little project ideas that are in my head.
Has anyone ever used one? Are they a complete ripoff?
Thanks!

Also, to join the Michael's anonymous group, I couldn't get out of the store without spending like $40 today.
Ha!

Today I'm working on marble magnets and corresponding altoids tins to give them in.

For my mama and gramma, a tin with a small quilt image decoupaged to the cover. I discovered my Keepsake Quilting catalog had LOADS of images of small quilts and blocks (plus images of fabric galore!), so I'm making her some quilt block marble magnets as well. Too late to get the catalog for christmas, but I URGE you to get their free catalog soon. You'll go crazy. Very sophisticated for those "normal" mamas.

For my step brother, the tin is made from comic book images and quotes which include his name. Luckily my husband is a comic collector so he knew JUST what superhero was named Jason ;) The magnets are itty bitty images and "Pow!" type stuff from the books.

I bought some new marbles today..the most clear round marbles I've ever seen...and can you believe, I got them at a LIQUIDATOR store for 50 cents a bag! They also had some beautiful cobalt blue oblong type oval-ish shapes...I have no use for them but my mind is saying "go get em!".

Me's feeling creative today.

quick question....anyone know of some sort of sealer/paint to put on a birdhouse after you have painted it to keep it from mildewing?

last year i wrapped my gifts in a really cool way. we have these candies (in sweden) that comes in 'blisterpacks' (like some medications...) so i bought tons of those (tutti frutti ones as they're a dark pink), put all my gifts in boxes, wrapped them with tin foil and then i carefully glued these sheets of candy onto the box, making sure it looked neat and even. then i just put pink and silver string round the whole thing and they looked really neat!! i wish i could find the photos of the finished thing but i can't so you just have to use your imagination and i'll leave you with an image of the candies! however if i do find the photos i'll post them later as you can wrap any gift this way, not just xmas gifts!

(from Knitting.about.com)
"My project knit in stockinette rolls in. Did I do something wrong?
You did nothing wrong. This is simply the nature of the fabric produced by stockinette. If you are knitting something that will be seamed, such as a sweater, it will be fine once you have sewn the pieces together. If you are knitting a piece that will not be seamed, such as an afghan or a scarf, then you don't want it to roll but rather it should lie flat. Try putting an easy seed stitch border around it and it will lie flat."

The answer links to this page...I can handle that pattern, but what am I supposed to do with it? A *border*? Huh?

I think this is my third post in two days or something, but I'm just feeling quite crafty this weekend! Hooray!

On an unrelated note, I did end up using black nail polish on the buttons on my cassock and it looks wonderful. Thanks for all the suggestions, girls! (and guys!)

So, fleece scarves are the easiest thing to make ever. Take a yard of fleece and cut it. The end. I made several about five inches wide and cut some fringe into the bottom. These suckers take, like, two minutes tops. For the average friend they're great, but for a really close pal who lives 5000 miles away who just happens to be in my country again for Christmas, it needs something more. Ivo and I have an inside joke about slugs and snails, so I "appliqued" a fleece snail onto a navy fleece scarf I cut. It's all stitched by hand, but I know nothing about actual technique so I just made it all up. Without further ado...CUTE SNAIL SCARF!

(the fringe)

I'm so pleased.
