Hello...I'm not a grrl, or even a girl, but this seems like the best crafting community, so I hope it's ok...
Anyways, I used to make and sell these windchimes out of old silverware, and was thinking of doing it again
far away
and
close-up
(i hope that works)
Anyways, I was wondering, how would I ship these, or any windchime, without them getting totally tangled? I was thinking maybe putting each "arm" inside of a paper towel tube, but that would be a lot of tubes.
Also, I would use fishing line to connect the pieces, can anyone recommend a better material that would make them look more "finished"?

Some beautiful bonsai-esque wire trees at a kiosk in a mall piqued my attention. Most were in the $40-60 range.
"Pshyeah," I thought, and headed to the local craft store.
A couple of hours and $20 later..

Someone posted a link a few weeks ago to a site that made bags out of record covers. I had a few nifty covers left over from a record bowl project and decided to try my hand at it.

This is the First One. I need to add some trim at the top and a handle, but it's basically done.

Cross-posted to my journal.

I've collected several tins over the past couple of months. Altoids sours, Whitman's samplers, etc. A lot of them have textured tops - like engraved metal, sort of. Does decoupage cover that, or does it live the shape of the metal underneath? I want a flat surface for any artwork I'll put on them.

does anyone know anywhere online which might have the kind of images found on traditional(ish) decoupage eg: cherubs, roses, harps, kittens etc. thanks in advance

I'll make another bag tonight and take pictures of it step-by-step. It's the only way I can think of to really explain what I did. I tried typing out directions, but they were confusing to even me and I made the darned thing! Once I have it all loaded I'll post a link here.

I started a paper mache community [livejournal.com profile] paper_mache so I wouldn't bog down this group with pictures. Check it out if paper mache is your passion.

Does anyone in here know if Decoupage medium is safe to use on dishes? I've seen a bowl made from Decoupage that had popcorn in it, and that made me wonder how safe it was. Any ideas??

Does anyone have a reccomendation for a paint that would work well on glazed pots? I want to decorate some white plant pots I got for my valentines, but everything I can think of (acrylic, tempera, paint pen) will all just scrape off too easy. Is there a special paint for what I am looking to do? Thanks!

Is there any way I can make this myself? I don't want to order it online, and I don't even live in the UK either.

thanks for your help =)

ok. so a couple of questions.

1. does anyone know where i can get these things?

i know that's not a great drawing, but it gives the general idea.. i want those little tags that are shaped like that and have a hole for a string to go through.. and they're like.. maybe 2x3 inches.. or any size really. if anyone knows what they're called or where to get them that would be greatly appreciated.

2. ok, as of about lunch time i am easter egg crazy. but- it's almost impossible to find easter egg dye.. so does anyone know where i can get some dye - or even better, how i could make my own?

thanks alot in advance!

hi all.
i'm new here, but i've lurked forever -- and then i finally got myself a livejournal, so now i can post.
so, here's my question:
i'm moving into a new house and the other day i accidently broke the cheap-ass curtains off the window (whoops). so i figure i'll just sew up some new ones, but i don't want anything special. all i want to do is put a rod through two pieces of long fabric (and the fabric will hang from the rod as curtains). because the fabric i have is slightly mesh-y, i want to make the curtains really scrunchy, so that people can't see through my window when i'm naked. how can i do this? should i just create a pattern at the top of the fabric and weave the rod in and out, and then scrunch it up? but then how do i sew the fabric at the ends to make sure that the two sheets don't just separate away from each other?

thanks, guys. any help would be much appreciated, because i don't think this should be this confusing.

Hi! I'm not exactly new to the community, but this is my first time posting, and my first try at beading. A post on Craftgrrl (which I can't find, but it was about beaded coasters) inspired me to try out it out, and in searching for techniques I found beadpoint here. For a friends upcoming birthday (if you know who sshhhh! don't tell!), I decided to do a white bird on a blue background.

SO I made the record bowl. Only I'm not that impressed. And I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for.

Although the panicking around the kitchen trying to get the bowl flipped with big fat oven gloves, might have been worth it all.

Until my husband comes home, and see's what I've done. And lectures me how burning vinyl is scarilige, whether it's Sting or Eddie Grant or Rick James.

hi grrls. a while back there was an awesome post about an earring made out of a guitar pic. and i have a guitar pic from a *crush* but its plain. no neat skull on mine :( i was wondering what i could do to spiff it up a little. right now its just plain grey and the normal guitar pic size. i think.. ! i was thinking a star sticker... but thats not crafty at all! any ideas? what would stick to it since its kinda... slipperyish. paint wise.
anyways, any ideas/suggestions/comments would be much appreciated! rock on

hi everyone,

i was assigned to make a little nametag for my conversational french class, something pretty sturdy and quasi fancy looking. i was thinking along the lines of something that can be glued onto a pin-type fastener. anyone have any cheap suggestions about how to go about making one? thanks a lot :)
