Hi everyone!

Okay, shhhhhh. I'm playing hooky today! Any suggestions for a one-day crafty project? I'm in the mood. Heh heh.

Bring it!

So if you've ever been pregnant, you know how freaking ridiculously expensive nice birth announcements are. By nice, I just mean ones with pictures, that are at least semi-cute, and that are pre-printed, so you don't have to go through and write the same information in every card.
I decided that I was going to make my own. The pictures didn't turn out that well, the paper is lime green, instead of the sickly green that it scanned, and the glue did not show up that much on the actual cards. Anyway, I took two stamps, and stamped them on vellum paper, then glued the paper to some printed paper and cut out around it with pinking shears and put those on the front of the card. On the inside I printed out a picture of her, and on top put another sheet of vellum that had been printed with all of the information, and the stamps from the front. The picture on this one was cut kind of crooked, but for the most part, the rest were cut straight. For the envelopes, I cut a sheet of the plaid paper to fit my printer and printed out addresses and return addresses, cut them out with the pinking shears again, and glued them to the envelope.
I compared prices, and to buy cards similar to this would have been over $100. My price?
$7 - Pack of 50 blank cards and envelopes (I only used 30)
$6 - baby stamp
free - hearts stamp (From papercandy.com, it was a sample with my order.)
$5 - patterned paper
free - photo paper, my aunt gave me a big stack a couple of years ago and I'm still using it
$2 - glue

Less than $20, a couple of evenings of stamping, cutting and glueing (My husband even helped!), and we had cute, personal birth anouncements. Yay!

My sister just found out she's 2 months pregnant. And she's happy about it. ;)

So I'd like to make up some stuff for the kid to be. I can crochet, and I can sew.

How big is a crib blanket? Making blanket and sheet sets on the machine seems like it could be pretty easy, so I'd love to do that for her (babies can be messy as we all know, so you can't have too many sheet sets!). I just don't know what the dimentions for a crib set are.

I realize I have a bit more leeway when it comes to crocheting up a blanket and that there are plenty of patterns out there that give you the final result's size, so that's not *as* important. However, my MIL's thing is to knit baby blankets (she does it in her free time, so she usually has at least one laying around "just in case"), so I'd rather concentrate on sewing up stuff for her. :)

Also, any tips for painting those very stretchy onesies? I'd also like to dye them - white and pastel colors are just *NOT* for me. Or for the parents to be. ;) So I'd love to sort of stamp/paint on cool logos and maybe dye white ones in vibrant colors instead of the icky plain pastels. Heh.

D00d, if I were ever able to have kids, they'd be so decked out. *snort*

Any and all help/tips are highly welcome - even if it's just for baby stuff in general and not on the topics I asked about! I'm not having kids, and I've never had them, so maybe there are other useful things I can give them that I can make cool looking?

~Kissy, who'd love to make the kid a fleece skull and crossbones blanket but think that's a little *too* out there for these parents...

DAMMIT.
DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT.

i just tried spray painting a word on a shirt, i used black spray paint and taped down stencils, but....the letters came out looking liek pseudo-shapeless blobs.

why oh why has this happened?
(and how can i prevent it?)

I wanted to test that transfering method of using a colorless blender marker to transfer copies to things like t-shirts and wood. i wanted to test it on this plastic binder thing, but it didn't work. I colored 2 layers of marker and I rubbed it with the side of an aol box but barely anything came out. To anyone who has done this, do i just need a lot more marker on there? or does it have to be a VERY fresh copy (mine was from this afternoon)? or should i just rub A LOT harder. my guess is just not enough of the juice got on there. my boyfriend thought maybe it doesn't work on plastic. any help would be great.

Well, the snow melted a week or so ago and I was able to go buy foam glue.

The brand is Aleene's Foamtastic. It's great for craft foam. In fact, it's proving pretty strong, overall. It smells like Elmer's, which isn't overwhelming. It seems slightly fibrous as it dries (dries clear, though) and irritates/burns my fingers just a little, but peroxide and oranges burn my fingers. ;)

more stuff and a picture )

Don't you hate when there are a lot of misshapen marbles in the bunch? You know, the ones that look ooky and wrong on the magnet? What do you do with those deformed magnets?

any suggestions on how to make an old work shirt [think golf shirt =6] look nice? i was thinking of making it a halter...think it'd look good? i wanna make it wearable because it's from sanrio surprises and how i love the memories it has. also, is it easiest to make smaller [form-fitting] by slicing the back and sewing back? thanks in advance!

p.s. how well does spray paint stay on t-shirts?
