they have these little handheld sewing machines at wal-mart that i am interested in buying. i'd like to use it for sewing on patches, hemming my trousers, etc. does anyone know about these? would anyone recommend using it? i don't have a regular sewing machine and this thing is only ten bucks...

forget what i wrote last time, about the handheld sewing machine. i was dumb and didn't look in the faq section first. i guess a bunch of people said it's a piece of shit. but i'm thinking of trying it anyways!

I can't afford ModgePodge right at the moment, so I was wondering if I could make something like it? I've never used and was wondering if I could make it out of watered down Elmer's Glue possibly? I'm trying to make postcards if that is any indication. THANKS!!!

The webzen site is doing "Crafty Zen" this week, with sites about carved pencils, lego-figure mouse mods, and even crocheted thongs.

I've decided to become the unofficial guiena pig when it comes to those handheld sewing machines that everyone is talking about. I saw one at Target for Ten bucks and plan on buying it after work today. I will post my results later.

This weekend i plan on:

making a pair of earrings using precious stones and copper wire based on a pair i saw in vogue.

making my skirt made out of ties. (the true test of the handy stitch machine.

restringing some necklaces that broke, only using fishing line this time.

and making a cute summer dress. yet another test of the handy stitch.

links to photos and results to be posted (hopefully) sometime sunday night.

I figure if it is a bust, i am only out ten bucks, which i would have spent on booze and frozen desserts anyway.

peace out fellow craft chicas (and chicos!) !!!

Hi goils,

Well, I'm back at work today -- but it's Friday and the sun is shining! Whee!

I had so much fun re-sizing some shirts last night that I think I'm going to do much more of that this weekend. I followed the directions I found in the FAQ -- but what I'm wondering is if anyone knows much about modifying the necklines of shirts? Is it the same concept, or do I have to be much more precise with cutting and measuring? Geez, if I learn enough I might be able to construct a whole new wardrobe!

btw, to see what I ended up doing on my day of hooky, check out my journal! Yesterday's entry AND the "other stuff" section of my crafts page show all!

Not the best quality photos, but you get the idea. :)

white katt

The white necklace has multi-colored beads under the silver spirals and the katt (Swedish) necklace is actually made up of red beads, it's much brighter than it looks.

I want to make a silk quilt.

Am I am idiot? What kind of an undertaking would that be? What special kinds of considerations would I have to take to sew with silk? (I would be sewing on a machine.) I've never even made so much as a pillow with silk before, so I don't really know what characteristics it has.

Talk me out of it,
Sara :)

Hi all--- New poster, psychotic lurker (of late). I've been doing Origami projects for many years and have tons of tips if anyone needs help. I used to sell my origami jewelry in boutiques, but haven't in a while. Anyway, I am here if anyone needs advice...I'm so happy to have found this community!

ok normally i would think of something on my own..
but.. its flowers, and i cant think of anything when it comes to dried flowers!!!

so i am leaving northern california in 3 weeks to go to la for school (fashion design and marketing at aiu)

so i am supposed to start packing my things, and i realized that i had my dried flowers from memorable events such as prom, graduation (my lei,) winterball and just random flowers from friends.

i really do not want to throw them out, and i dont want to take them like they are because then i will worry if something happens to them.

so.. what do i do with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????

help is really greatly appreciated!

and again.. normally i hate asking for help, especially since this is a community in which we post crafty things we have done.. but i am just at such a loss!

Hi again,

Since I would eventually like to make a little side money by selling my crafts through my website, yesterday I posted a question in a community asking if there is a place here for people to learn about driving traffic to their sites. I posed my question and included my url, which I always (or usually) do just so people know who I am.

I guess I had email replies turned off, so when I found that that post had been deleted today, I was clueless. This is what the moderator of that community said:

You must have e-mail replies turned off. Let me quote the terms of service via the community_promo bio:

"You agree that use of your LiveJournal account for posting your own advertisements or promotions is strictly prohibited. Such use of the Service may result in account revocation."

Does this apply to all LJ users, regardless of the community they are posting in? I've seen quite a few plugs for side ventures and assumed it was okay. I've read through the terms of service but I'm still confused. Bah.

Hello everyone-
I was just looking around online for crochet hooks, just so I could get some big ones though i don't really know what they're used for, but they look neat. Anyway, I just wanted to suggest this to those of you who do the crochet thing, and also have that Fimo clay (I don't know anything about the clay either, but I think it'll work):

You can cover the end of smaller sized crochet hooks with a fimo handle so they're easier to hold. I saw some like that on ebay so I thought I might just mention it for anyone who could use the idea.

(cross-posted to knitting, apologies)

i have a question... has anyone ever gotten ahold of a sweater and unraveled it for reuse? I have a bunch of sweaters (machine-knitted) in front of me that I want to unravel, but i'm not having much luck. Does anyone know the quickest, or at least, the easiest way to do this?

so, i've finally gotten computer-literized (yeah, that's probably not a real word)...and have learned how to upload pics. so here are a few ) of them
