Calling all Crafy Ladies (and Guys)

Need some help on this one. I'm moving into a smaller house soon and I will have a much smaller living room. Right now I have four book cases that are about hip high. I want to make them into 2 tall bookcases by staking one on top of the other. I know that I need to stabilize them so they don't fall over...Suggestions? I want it to look nice so I figure I can paint over them after to make it look like one piece? I'm open to ideas. Help!!!!

I just saw a segment on the morning show here for some ideas on spicing up your demin.

Glitter fabric paint-
---get some glitter fabric paint and put a small amount on your fingers. Take a demin jacket or pants and rub the paint into the fabric with your fingers. If you match the color of the paint to the color of the demin it will just let the glitter show. The paint bonds it to the fabric

Bleach -
----Take a stencil and place it on your denim. Make a paste of bleach and flour and dab it on the denim through the stencil. Let it sit on the denim for 20 mins and wash off. Wa-la, instant pattern on your jeans.

Wood burning tool -
----Using different nibs on the wood burning tool lets you make different shapes. Press the burner tip on the denim for 1 second then move it to the next spot. It may be a little stiff, but after a few washes you'll get the distressed look to your design.

Note, I personally havn't tried any of these methods, I jsut thought I would share

Hey everyone...I just joined the community today but I've been reading it a lot lately! :) Sorry if you guys've answered this already, I really did try to find it in the memories section though! I was wondering how I would go about nicely framing a greatt tshirt that doesnt fit me anymore...i figured i'd frame it and decorate the frame nice and pretty to match the shirt so I can hang it up! Would I have to do anything special to it to make it stay or make it lay flat? or do u think i could just fold the edges over and slap it in a frame? thanks guys!

I have watching for a little while, and today the crafty mood hit me. So, this is one of the things I made.... )

First of all, this is driving me NUTS because I KNOW I just saw this post a while ago, but I've been searching the FAQ and back entries and I can't find the post--someone asked a question about making/acquiring somehow their own labels to go inside their own clothes. Since I can't find the post, I don't know if anyone replied or what they said...so could someone please tell me? Or direct me to The Phantom Post (I swear, it was just there a while ago!)

Anyway, here's a few other little things I wanted to point out. First, this is the coolest idea I've seen in a long time. It doesn't look TOO hard to make either, assuming you know how to work with leather (I don't). Anyway.

Third thing--I posted this picture of my tieskirt a few months back, and now I'm thinking I might like to make more to sell. So tell me: How much would you be willing to pay for something like this? (I'm not aware asking this is against the rules, but if it is, I'll delete this part of my post :)

Any help with any of this stuff would be really nice. Thanks everyone, you rock, as usual.

Wow. I just had an idea.

You know how they have knitted hats with animal ears on them?

How about knitted hats with faerie/insect antennae? I would so love one of those. But I don't know how to knit.

Has anyone seen anything like that before?
[identity profile] strange-charm.livejournal.com
hello. :) i had the idea to knit my stepmother a dishcloth/towel set for her birthday, and i bought a great shade of sugar'n cream for it. the problem is that it's varigated, and i'm not sure what patterns would really look good with it. i'm not find of plain garter, and i'd rather do something prettier.

do any of you have any patterns that look particularly good with yarns like this? i've looked around online but most patterns seem to be one-color specific.

thank you!

So, I told you I was real busy today. This was my other project. )

I started a design journal today (which I really should have done years ago :/). It'll have designs, fabric samples, sketches, photos, writing, web addresses, magazine articles etc.

All finished and decorated! *cuddles it*

TINS!

A great place to find tins (as well as a spiffy shopping experience) is in a Chinese grocery store. The tea and cookies come in a dizzying array of tins. Some are too pretty to paint, but it's not-to-be-missed!

Also, for Bostonians who sew, the New England Textile Company in Chinatown (on the corner of Chauncey Street) is having a killer going out of business sale.

Hey. I'm new to this community, my name is Signe, and I'm a 16 year old girl from Norway. I've taken a great interest in crafts lately, because I think it's nice to be able to render my creativity into useful things as well, heh. I sew and knit and make stupid little voodoo-dolls.

I've got a skirt for summer planned (I won't have time to do it yet- work and vacation), and after that I wanted to make something more winter-y so I found this picture.I think it'd look cool with black tights and a black turtleneck! From what I can see, it's made in two parts- the top (made in two parts as well- front and back), and the skirt which is made in like.. 6 parts. I don't know how I should make a pattern out of this, so advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello craftgrrl's (& guys!). I have finally decided to share a few things I made recently. A friend taught me how to crochet not long ago (I was already a knitter) and I've been making things like mad.

Here are a few purses and a hat (along with explainations).

knock knock. )

Thanks, everyone! You're all such an inspiration and this is by far my favorite community.

hello!
i'm looking to do some decoupage onto ceramic tiles for use as drink coasters...and just off a trip to michael's, i was a bit overwhelmed by the dizzying array of varnishes and lacquers available, and the lack of instructions on each.
does anyone have experience with a particular brand of varnish/lacquer (preferrably satin or matte) that doesn't dry sticky, doesn't alter the color of the paper beneath it, doesn't leave brush strokes on the surface, and is fairly liquid-safe? i'm not looking for anything dishwasher-safe; but something that can handle drink condensation and a light cleaning. i really don't want to have to resort to a pourable resin if i can help it...

thank you in advance!

Hi crafty folk,

Here is another round of photos of my recently painted goodies. Comments and critiques are always welcome!!!

I know it can be done. My question for you all is: how? How do you burn a stick of incense upside-down inside a bottle without it going out from lack of O2? I have a multitude of wine bottles and no use for them.

My cat just fell off of his perch! Ha!
